Why would Sony what to announce this now? Do they want people in Europe to wait? It's stupid to release info about hardware bundles or price cuts too early because it makes consumers wait. It's the same thing with the dualshock rumble. It seems like the longer you wait the better. Took less than a year for a US$200 price cut and if you wait another 6 months you might get another price cut, the proper controllers and a game that actual might be worth playing.
Why would Sony what to announce this now? Do they want people in Europe to wait? It's stupid to release info about hardware bundles or price cuts too early because it makes consumers wait. I'm sure this PS3/MGS4 bundle will be a very popular seller, but announcing it now is the dumbest thing a VP could do! Many people may decide to wait to get a PS3 and get a XBOX 360 (with newly announced price drop and bundles) or Wii (yeah I know that would be dumb) this holiday season instead.
The PS3 has good games now, but nothing extraordinary, and the 360 has a lot more than just shooters. The 360 just has really good shooters. The Wii has really nothing impressive, and no first party games without shamelessly exploiting Mario every time.

Maybe you're right in a certain extend regarding the early anouncemnt, you are wrong though into saying that the xbox has great games other than FPS yes it has the best FPS hands down!.
But if you take the time and search the top 360 games in all major games websites, you will find out that the 9/10 mark is only exceded by FPS with maybe one or two exceptions like Elder Scrolls (also on pc and ps3), yes after 2 years!.
Up against the ps3's constantly proven reliability, and its current game release momentum along with its PSN offerings (Home)and new addons like the Playstation eye and yes its blu-ray capability, the xbox is the present winner (against the ps3 the wii is already number 1) but undoubtly a near future loser.
Mgs4 will be undoubtly a major console mover for the ps3 (not to mention GT5, FFXIII and KZ2) in addition to the forthcoming price cut (yes there will be further reduction of the price we have six months to go afterall). People whould definatly buy a ps3 just for mgs4 as opposed to halo 3, which could never be a worthy console mover for the 360 for the simple reason that, most people got into the 360 due to halo and FPS's which they did long ago...
The xbox 360 over the years has suffered and still suffers under its reliability despite the new chip sku releases over time and all those quarantee deals from MS. Only uninformed people whould buy a 360 and not give it a second thought. The bottom line is that the 360 wasnt thoroughly tested and badly made from the start.
About the Wii... what can you say, two things really... cheap as it gets, and a lazy-easy-money developer's dream come true nothing more...
