MGS4 cover art - Image 1 If you think you're accustomed to the Hideo Kojima school of storytelling with its elaborate cut scenes spanning long periods, you may be in for a shock. A report has recently come out stating that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has cutscenes spanning almost 90 minutes.

Yes, that's plural for you. Taking the information from the latest PSW issue that hits news stands today, the site said that story sequences will now run the length of time roughly equivalent to most feature films.

"MGS4's story is massive. The videogame equivalent of all three Godfather movies on one disc," says PSW in its article.

With this, the long cutscenes that turned some players off on Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty are easily trumped. The longest recorded story sequences in that game ran about 45 minutes in total. Better do the math and get some popcorn ready for MGS4.

If you're into the whole MGS storyline like a lot of series fans, this will be a good thing. This blogger, for one, appreciates the intricacies of the "interactive movie" style of Kojima for all its depth and appeal to the curious mind. We'll keep you updated.

 » RUMOR DEBUNKED!!

this rumopre was nothing more than... a rumor...

it was said by many people that played the game and completed it that there is no cutscene that even approaches 90 minutes...

   Re: xche78x - 2008-05-25
 » i believe you!

and even if it is real, as long as we can save in anywhere mid cut scene and or skip it, its no big deal. as a matter of fact i would personally enjoy if it is real, imagine a long cutscene which you can load in between or skip or even rewind, ill would bring lots of popcorns, pizza and soda.

and heck i hope in the future they make more games as fast as the frames per second of the GRID for PC. for example gta4 culd have been way better if it was 60fps or more.

 » Yeah...

I dont know where this came from.. but its serious bull.

I found it particularly hilarious that Joystiq went out of there way to point out that the game doesnt have "90 minutes of cutscenes... it has 90 minute cutscenes."

...yeah... no it doesnt. It has 90 minutes OF cutscenes you brain dead tools.

The game was beaten for the first time 2 months ago.. and JUST NOW someone realises there was a 90 minute cutscene that the original players somehow... missed?

No..

 » WHAT

ninety... minutes...? i certainly hope not. not because i dont want to watch them, but that is a ninety minute span of time where i wont be able to get out of my chair, unless they add a pause feature.

» you should read the comments

Sometime comments explain further than the articles themselves...

anyway don't freak out, there is no 90 minutes cutscenes, apparently the final one goes over 45 minutes but that's it.

   Re: misthero - 2008-05-23
 » yes there is

you can pause cutscenes

 » not true

Well, I was playing MGS 2 SOL they other day just not to lose track of it and my Girl friend asked.."Are you watching a movie?- Oh man that game is a freaking movie" - I told her, wait til I get the new girl, you seat next to me and get some popcorn..LOOOOL Might be 90 minutes expanded throughout the whole game - let's see what Kojima came up with!

 » Argue all you want

Really you can argue if you want but there aint going to be any 90 minutes cutscebnes in the game, as I stated many people having completed the game said there was no cutscene that was that long... it's logical too because reviews so far haven't mentionned any either... You'd think they'd have noticed this, and mention it.

Really anyone who believes CVG's claim on their original claim is way too gullible, really they said a source whispered to them that there were 90 minutes cutscenes. That's foolish.

For further informations see www.neogaf.com Ryan Payton will surely comment on this rumor anytime soon.

but it's confirmed to be bogus already by dozens of people having completed it.

 » not true

like other people said this was a rumor made up to try and make MGS look bad and seem boring.

It's inaccurate.

 » bit long

Seems a bit long for a cutscene dont ya think? This may be somewhat farfetched and even lies.
I dont doubt that the cutscenes will be long, but not this long

   by wolf3ax - 2008-05-24
 » Im guessing

If there is 90 minute cutscenes they would be in a theater mode such as the one in MGS3, allowing you to view essentaily a movie version of the game. This is what i suppose the 90 minute cut scenes would be if they even exist.

What, no retraction?

This story is completely false.

If anything, I think the "90 minutes" may be all of the cutscenes added together
   by scarface_tha_second - 2008-05-24
 » This

will be *****ing sick. Although a single cutscene may not be 90 minutes, all of them will equal to a lot more than 90 minutes. Just think about the cutscene at the end of the Tanker mission in SOL...it was just about half an hour long.

   by platon - 2008-05-24
 » 90 min OF cutscenes

Not 90 min. cutscenes, lol.

Anyway, 90min of cutscenes is really cool but normal if you count the kojima said it's gonna answer all the questions. He said it's gonna be a "real" end, not an end that doesn't answer all the questions. So 90 min. of cutscenes is a DAH! since the other MGS4 have at least 60min of cutscenes anyway. Anyway, since the intro and the ending movies will be big, I suppose this means normal cutscenes during the game, nothing special there.

 » false proved:

http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=187049

they say:"I've completed the game twice, and am the author of the forthcoming [GamePro] review," Shuman said. "Ninety-minute-long cinemas in MGS4 sounds like an exaggeration. Like the other MGS games, MGS4 definitely has a cinematic quality. And yes, some of the cut-scenes in the game are elaborate and occasionally lengthy. But not a one, to my recollection, even approaches 90 minutes."

more: Cut scenes are skippable, and can also be paused.
