Max Payne - Image 1

"Bewildered" is the word 3D Realms CEO Scott Miller used when describing the Max Payne movie. Miller cited several fundamental changes in the movie that he took issue with, one of the largest being about how Max's motivation for revenge was not revealed until later in the movie.

"Saving this scene until mid-film is a narrative blunder, because the audience needs to empathize with Max in order to like him and understand what drives him," he explained.

Despite the movie's obvious flaws the movie raked in US$ 18 million last weekend, easily landing the top spot in the US box office. It just goes to show you what fan power can do, I suppose.

My opinion: I saw Max Payne last weekend, and I'm sad to say that I agree with Mr. Miller and the movie critics who came before. The movie wasn't very good taken by itself or even as just fan-service for people like me who loved the game. I actually dug up my old Max Payne CD and played it to remind myself how nice the game was. I wasn't disappointed.

Now, don't bite my head off. Just voicing an opinion. Feel free to post yours if you disagree.

 » Well...

I didn't have high hopes for the movie in the first place. I love the Max Payne series, but, like all other great games that were turned into movies (apart from Silent Hill and Resident Evil), it didn't work right.

Would have been awesome had George Romero done it. Google his script, its REAL RE and not the ***** that got made.

 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

Trying to compare a movie to it's video game partner is as lame as trying to compare a movie to it's book or it's comic book.

The movie was fine. Not the best, but just fine. If you like Max Payne then watch the movie. But don't expect it to be the exactly like the game.
