LittleBigPlanet - Image 1

Media Molecule has shot down the possibility of a sequel for LittleBigPlanet. In an interview with Critical Gamer, the devs shut the doors closed on an LBP 2, saying that a sequel would be "counterproductive."

Said level designer Danny Leaver, an LBP sequel would only serve to fragment the game's community. "We’d never want to do that. That’d be the most counterproductive thing you could do I think."

Instead of a part 2, Media Molecule will continue to focus on DLC and updates for the game. "I think what you’ve seen so far from LittleBigPlanet, that’s the way it’s going to continue," said producer Martin Lynagh.

"We have a lot of stuff coming out, especially next year. We can’t really talk about specifics for a lot of it at the moment, because a lot of it hasn’t been announced," Lynagh revealed.

Good news, that, seeing as how Media Molecule's post-launch support for the game has been quite impressive.

Easier way to earn money. The only problem with this is that it won't really attract any new fans as much.

maybe they bring out Mega-updates which change the whole engine. That would be awesome. The water update would be the first step.

 » ok but...

Yeah water update is the first step. But what you said "Mega-updates which change the whole engine" is impossible. You can not change the engine of a game via updates I think. ... maybe you can just improve it, but not change it.

an engine is a specific part of the game code, its not seperate so considering how theyve laid it out, anything could be changed

also adding water dynamics is normally considered engine modification unless it was previous created and only being implemented now

theres no real definition for an engine

 » ....

Depends how they programmed the engine.

It is not impossible to change an engine once it's been made. Most bug fixes are the developers replacing some part of the engine that was not working properly.....same with control tweaks etc....

Just not sure what you would want changed ? It's all pretty good...

 » "YES WE CAN!"

of course you can replace the whole engine. You just have to tell the game that it should use data from the HDD instead of the disc. Why shouldn't it be not possible? The updates would be HUGE, but of course it's possible.

 » milking the game

milking the game with lots of retarded costumes and no gameplay content

   Re: TheCopyNinja - 2009-11-05
 » Like?

The whole point of LBP is about creating. The gameplay is fine. All we need are new costumes/ material/ and other objects. No need for a LBP 2, LBP has lots of replayability.

   Re: Snaku - 2009-11-05
 » Yup... well, kinda'

There have been a LOT of costume add-ons, but there's been a pretty significant amount of add-ons that affect the actual game, too. The sticker packs give you more decoration options, and the Christmas, Valentines, and monster packs gave us more materials, decos and stickers. Then there was the creators' pack which gave us new tools and power-ups and recently a music pack so you can have more soundtrack options for your levels. And, of course, the MGS pack which gave us a completely different way of playing the game and some new levels (for only $6 to boot).

So, yeah, the costume updates are useless, but there have been a fair amount of actual game-affecting add-ons, too. Just wish they'd hurry up and release the water update.

most FPS todays have no gameplay content.. you do a 3 hour campaign, then hop online and shoot people.

They are smarter/better than valve at least

   Re: Stealth! - 2009-11-06
 » er, no

Valve is still the greatest(and smallest) group of PC developers out there. The thing was, L4D2 was too big to even be a DLC, and they even stated that at the E3 during an interview.

People are so quick to boycott a game for ridiculous. Big deal, they released something too big for DLC and instead made it a sequel. Valve has been supporting their games through DLC for years. They're still going to support L4D1 with updates and maps. I honestly do not understand why people go to such lengths to sign ridiculous petitions.

I think developers should actually learn from Media Modecule and Valve.
The reason why LittleBigPlanet would not work as a sequel is cause it's a user created game. Making a sequel would involve too much expectation and changes. Either the fans expect alot and if they don't deliver it, they'll be disappointed and upset. If MM change too much in a sequel same ending; Disappointed and Upset. It's a lose lose situation that's why it's counterproductive.

This isn't even counting PSP LBP, so to make a sequel they'd need to be supporting 3 games. It's quite difficult. 2 games are much more manageable. Not only that, they spend less money and gain potentially more money in the long run. It's a very smart business move.
PC developers has been doing this for while.

Lmao, they make one okay game (which granted spawned a few good mods masquerading as full new games) and they are the greatest??

Valve are extremely over-rated.

@Musev: I agree that Valve is overrated nowadays, but don't dismiss Half-Life so quickly. It is one of the greatest games ever made. Also, Counter-Strike basically defined online multiplayer PC games. Steam revolutionized content delivery. Valve is still pretty damn innovate. Did you play Portal? I don't mean to sound like a fanboy, and I do agree that people are all over Valve's nuts too often, but they have done some great stuff.

 » Little Big Payoff

its cheaper to make 10 costume packs charge people 5 bucks per DL than to go make a full game...Its pretty obvious, but its still better than buying a rushed buggy game
