PS3 - Image 1Oooooh this looks interesting. Michael Pachter is back with yet another bold prediction. This time, he's expecting a price cut for the PS3 by April, even after David Reeves gave it an authoritative "absolutely not" last December.

Pachter still sees Nintendo dominating, forecasting 2.6 million DSs sold, and the Wii continuing its casual gaming success. Overall, Pachter believes that hardware unit sell-through will be up 13% to 9.15 million, while software sales will go up 10% to US$ 2.625 billion.

He expects the PS3 to take a price cut by April, since its failure to keep up in the sales race is due to its rather heavy price tag. Microsoft, however, can do the same to maintain its lead. "Once the PS3 is at a more affordable price point (we expect a cut to $299 in April), we think that sales of that device will once again begin to grow. We expect another cut in price for the Xbox 360, with the feature-laden Pro model likely to come down in price to $249 at or before this year's E3 show in June," he said.

Here's what David Reeves said last month:

 » .......

sony already said no to price cut, geez.....

 » yeah but...

Sony has taken the base design of the non-premium models (2 USB ports, no BC, etc.) and are selling them at the price of the older "premium" systems, which is just stupid. If they are gonna do that, might as well drop the price. This is just foolish to be 2 years old and still not have a true price drop.

 » well...

they did have a true price drop which was with the first 80gb console.. it was $600, then they dropped it down to $500 like a month after I bought my 60gb...lol... i regretted a little, but i did hear that 60gb's have lesser failure rate...

 » no

before they lost crazy money. Now they barely break even. This could only be possible by removing components...

 » then they

should at least sell the ps3 for $400 with various gaming bundles with like 2 games per console... that way they dont lose much... something like mgs4+lbp, or r&c+r2, or even RFOM+R2.. they have quite a lot of exclusives to chip in... that way, when parents see that they are already getting 2 $60 worth game with a cosole for $400, they will most likely buy it... but why should i care anyways? lol... i been bought my ps3... lol..

 » Too expensive

The PS3 is really too expensive at its current price for three exclusives: MGS4, LBP, and KZ2.

"BUT BUT DRAKE'S FORTUNE AND VALKYRIA AND BLAZBLUE AND AND AND"

I get it. There are games that people vehemently want or claim to be great upcoming games. No problem with that. FOR ME: $400 and a new screen (I play my 360 through VGA on a monitor that takes two inputs) for three games isn't worth it.

» I think the PS3 has enough titles now to warrant a purchase

Especially if you're a new buyer like me. With the help of eBay and $100 I got Warhawk, Motorstorm, Resistance 1, MLB The Show 07 and 08, The Bigs, and MGS4, one of my favorite games ever made. And Uncharted came with my 160GB console, which I got for $380 with shipping. And I still have yet to buy LBP, Resistance 2, GT5 Prologue, and the few others it has. That's a lot of games

Also you may not need a new TV for it. If you're monitor has a DVI input and HDCP enabled on that DVI input you can play the PS3 just fine on that. An HDMI to DVI cable costs $10. Look up your model monitor to see if it is compatible with PS3

» You ever do some research?

There are many other exclusives with the Motorstorm games being one of my favorite all time racers. Also more and more Playstation Store content every week.

 » me too

@Orlyeh
actually, i bought a 1080p vga box, so i can play with my ps3 on a moniter too :) its too bad that sony didn't include it in the system like 360 did. but anyway, i personally prefer Playstation 3 over the xbox 360.

 » probably more effective if...

each PS3 game (same title) is $5 to $10 cheaper than the xbox360 game counterpart. I see a few parents in store during holiday upon comparing the same game for PS3 and 360 go for the 360 because they said in their own word that if the game cost the same then might as well buy the more affordable (cheaper) system.

» surely with a slim PS3 bundled with God of War 3! lol, that's a deal!

like I said! :D

Still, I think they would let a PS3 model at 399$ with more gigs and this model only would be bundled with god of war 3. They won't give aways their biggest game of the year to everybody, lol.
