Team Fortress 2 DLC prices depend on Sony, Microsoft - Image 1

Well, we can be sure that new maps will be coming to Team Fortress 2 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Valve even wants the said downloadable content to be free, but admitted that such might not be the case. The reason for this was recently uncovered over at Kotaku, and it's quite surprising to know that Valve doesn't have power over the pricing of their DLC.

Kotaku contacted Valve for clarification regarding this matter, and Doug Lombardi, Valve's VP of Marketing said, "The platform holder owns the final call." As Kotaku put it succinctly, "whether or not we see these maps for free is indeed up to Sony and Microsoft."

Personally, we're left wondering what kinds of DLC may have, in the past, been released for free, were it not for the policies of Sony and Microsoft. While we can't change the past, perhaps this knowledge might make it possible for gamers to properly ask for better prices on downloadable content.

Valve need to stop playing the blame game, if Criterion who are owned by EA can give away huge islands for Burnout Paradise for free then Valve could give away this DLC for free as well.

Well, it was up to Sony and Microsoft about the free islands too, it always comes up to them, since it's their systems and networks its being released on. I myself wont mind paying, but whatever happens, happens.

 » True

Valve doesn't like to take credit on sh|t that happens, only the good. But in the end Sony and Microsoft do have the say I suppose.

Sony, I don't see having a problem releasing it free but Microsoft might be another story and that has nothing to do with my opinion. I read an article about Epic being frustrated with Microsoft and UT3 because they want to release some stuff for free and Microsoft said "NO" claiming that everything will have a charge, no matter what.

Sony doesnt have any problem releasing free updates such as maps etc. but Microsoft only release free stuff to cover up for their mistakes. if you want those maps to be FREE on live then you will have to hope that a mishap happens on XBL that will force MS to distribute those maps for free.

Oh please shut up ur precious company is charging too because their greedy and want ur money just like all companies do.It's funny how ppl criticize MS for the same thing Sony is doing now it's actually entertaining.Idiot all companies WANT YOUR MONEY.I just it when ppl keep acting stupid.

well ur precious company charges ppl to play online, sony doesnt. dont ply favortism's becuase the fact is M$ will most likely charge something since they are now falling behind in sale's they need to make there money somehow.

Sony doesn't charge for online because they CAN'T yet. PSN was such a craptacular service last gen Sony couldn't have gotten away with charging $10 yearly for it this gen, nobody would've wanted it. XBL got away with it because it really was the first integrated system of its kind, and people were willing to pay to check that out.

Trust me, now that PSN is such a full-featured service with many members, Sony will be charging for it next gen. They'll probably keep it under MS's fee, but there will be a fee.

You two need to kill yourself. Sony COULD HAVE charged, but didn't. Why? They wanted to attract more people. Did it work? YES. Even PS2 online had tons of users in it's prime, even though it was no Xbox Live.

Now, Xbox Live has nothing on PSN. How do you even know if Sony and MS WILL charge for it when nothing has been said yet? MS charges for Xbox Live because...well...they're greedy. MS never needed to charge for it in the first place, but they chose to do so for so called "premium features", all of which the PSN offers now.

Sony wont charge for it next gen and never will. They could do it now, but will not. There you have it guys, the mentality of fanboys, who will pull anything out of their asses just so they can get their point across.

   Re: Master Chef - 2008-03-17
 » That's what I said you fool

Sony didn't charge because they needed the members first, they couldn't have done it with a fee. Now that they have those members PSN will have a price next-gen. You're a fool if you don't think so.

If Sony can get away with it, Sony will do it. And they can get away with it. Now that PSN is actually a very good service, people will be happy to pay for it, and Sony knows that.

lol @ the "MS is just greedy" line, definitely haven't heard that before. I'm the fanboy? Come on now. You apparently don't know what business is

And since when does it mean that something is never going to happen just because a company hasn't said so? Because you know, that'd be the perfect press announcement for Sony: "Yeah so um next year PSN will be $49.99. So get ready" That's pure marketing genius right there (I wish QJ had the little emote smileys, I'd put  right here)

I'm gonna call it right now, PSN $29.99 yearly or more next-gen

What MS made the most money last month you don't need to sell the most consoles. It's all about the games. Also, didn't tthe Wii outsell the ps3 again in all regions?http://www.gamespot.com/news/6187853.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;2
And to the other Sony slaves the only thing PSN have on XBL is being free and having dedicated servers.XBL is like itunes and an online gaming service. In game dash board custom chat, etc.XBL is much better than psn only a retard or playslave would say different.XBL won an award for their gaming service Sony never have period. Also, Master Chief is right psn is crap and not intergrated.Sony will at some point charge anyway Nintendo already started with pay to play. It's only a matter of time.

are you for real??

why on earth would sony charge for one of its selling points over Ms?? thats not business, that potential suicide, and sony knows this!! also, master chef never said PSN was crap, so where you got that from, i have no idea! stop being such a fanboy! I'm pretty sure it would'nt have mattered what console you had bought, you would have said the other was crap!! i don't know you but i've seen what you have written in the past, so it is painfully obvious!!

 » @the by -

I'm no fanboy only speaking the truth.People asked people who work for Sony in interviews if psn would stay free and they said they don't know, anything can happen.

ok, but what about all your other fanboyish comments?? you come on the ps3 site daily and write drivel about how much greater the 360 is compared to ps3? we don't care what you think so get over yourself!!! i was gonna buy a 360, until i found out that the ps3 had soo much going for it, wifi, remote play, and on the side, bluray player to watch hi def films, as well as some pretty decent games, and if u say that the likes of warhawk or resistance is *****, then you obviously never played them properly!!
