Aaron Greenberg Responds To Statements Made By Kaz Hirai - Image 1It just never ends.

Sony's Kazuo Hirai recently threw some mud Microsoft's way when he said that the Xbox 360 had "no longevity," and that the PS3 will have a higher install base by the end of its life cycle ("unless things go really bad.")

Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft's fanboy spokesperson Xbox Product Management Director, has a few things to say about that:

This sounds like an old hardware company that’s comfortable with its market position. That complacent attitude is out of touch with where the industry and consumer is today. This generation won’t be won over just hardware specs, but who can out-innovate when it comes to online and software. This is the kind of stuff that’s in our DNA, and frankly moves the console war onto our home court.

I’m confident we will outsell the PS3 throughout the entire generation by providing more innovation and building the best and broadest games library while growing our entertainment experiences on the leading online network.

With a U.S. install base lead now of more than 7 million units (according to NPD), I can’t imagine any scenario where the PS3 can catch up with us. In fact, even if you doubled the current PS3 sales and Xbox 360 remained flat, they couldn’t close the gap until 2014.

These two should go on Jerry Springer. I'd pay good money to see them go at it with proper trash talking and hair pulling. Hmm... Greenberg would have the upper hand with that last one.

just pointing that in Europe and most other countries, the PS3 is doing very well, and that the 360 also had a 1 year head start.

They're tired of all the arguing with ratings and getting banned, so they're like "bah, whatever. we're just going to sit here and make pron games and release them online. so there." LOL

 » innovation?

Ok, while the XBOX may have its strengths, innovation is definitly not amongst them.
A cheap console with lots of games is not innovative.
Paying shedloads just for exclusive DLC is not innovative.
Paying shedloads for multi-platforming of top-selling titles which were once exclusive is not innovative.
XBOX (exclusive) Games in general are not innvoative. They are by no means bad, just, well, nothing groundbreakingly new.

On the other hand,
LBP is damn innovative
Eye of Judgment is damn innovative
A LOT of PSN tites are quite innovative
Remote Play is innovative
HOME is (at least partly) innovative
etc etc

Ok, before the fanboys come in, I am not making a statement about "good" or "bad" or whatever, im just talking about innovation. Which Sony has, MS don't.

but most consumers only care about prices unfortunately

 » Yeah, right !

Yeah, right! Ur not making statement about "good" or "bad

   Re: Genotype - 2009-01-21
 » the price

the price is the whole point of the matter, once the price of the PS3 drops it will do better, and it is superior hardware, so it is bound to last longer.

   Re: genesiscopy - 2009-01-21
 » talking about life cycle

in the maturity stage of the gaming console (i.e. now), as usual, consumers only care more about price than product differentiation....

What a biased statement.

Try to look at both sides before making stupid claims.

   Re: death - 2009-01-21
» who can out-innovate when it comes to online and software

thats what i was gonna say via wiki:
"The term innovation means a new way of doing something."

what games have been innovative?

what is innovative about the online?

   Re: Dr_Olaf - 2009-01-23
 » @Cortador

Actually I DID look at both sides. A friend of mine has a 360 and we talk alot about the pros and cons of our consoles, and I have yet to see the great innovation M$ has in their games, concsole features, online service or business strategy.
But, if you know better, feel free to point out where M$ out-innovates Sony, and I'll gladly take back my "biased statement".

 » ha ha

the 360 cant even handle a 2 year life cycle cuz it will break and then u have to buy another...i got a ps3 to play my games online with and play exclusive games on,,,, i got a 360 to burn every single game to come to the 360 so i dont have to shell out 60 a game and pay 50 for online priod...ps3 will win in the long run with evrybody that had a ps3 since the launch and still hasnt had any problems... my first 360 crapped out 9 mounths in....

 » M$=Innovation

There's the oxymoron of the century. Where and when has M$ been innovating in anything? Windows Vista? Internet Explorer? Xbox 360?

Other than incompatibility issues with Vista, there aren't very many new features.

Internet Explorer is STILL inferior to Firefox.

Someone please tell me where is the innovation in the 360 other than the fact that M$ has innovated more ways to milk the consumer for their money because of their featureless consoles.

 » LOL...

There obviously some Sony sympathizers in this room so I'll keep it short.

The ONLY system that has been innovative this gen is the Nintendo Wii. But you know what, I can't stand the console. Which goes to show Innovation is nothing but doing something different, even if it means it'll suck. The truth is sony was dumb this time around, Why fix whats not broken?

This gen is broken down as....

Nintendo - Innovators.
Sony- Power.
Microsoft -Intelligence.

True, as far as the buying a console is concerned but how many people are actually buying the games instead of downloading pirate copies of them?

 » common sense

The sales of every console this generation makes perfect sense. Just look at last generation...Gamecube had too many kid games, so it didn't appeal to as many gamers. The Ps2 was cheeper then the Xbox and had more games. It also had RPG which were the main games that gamers were playing at the time, so it did better....This generation, the Wii has games for kids and for casual gamers, who have skyrocketed in the past few years. It also started as the cheeper system. It is now getting games that will appeal to the more hardcore gamers. It covers almost the whole spectrum of gammers. That is why it is doing the best. The 360 is the second best sold system and now the cheepest system(if you want an arcade). It has a strong hold on the moderate gamer category and a good bit in the hardcore area, but not much for the casual gammer. It's price and good games make it 2nd.....The PS3 is the nerdy kid in high school. It started out riddiculed to death by others. It has a lot of power, but really only makes the hardcore gamers drool. No one else really understands the system enough to give it the light of day. Because hardcore gamers do not represent the majority of gamers, The sales for the PS3 reflects that. If either the 360 or the ps3 wanted to compete with the wii, they would have to spread their gamer base across he whole spectrum. I think 360 is trying but not doing so well, and I feel the Ps3 dosen't really care. They are happy with trying to make their current fan base happy. The problem with that is the ps3 dev is expensive and slow and hardcore gamers need constant feeding to stay happy. So it takes a lot of time and attention. I think the ps3 will have a firm hold on hardcore gamers at the end of the generation, while the 360(if they reallt do try to hold it for 10 years, I doubt it though) will be caught somewhere in the middle of it and the wii's fan base. The wii will dominate as long as casual gamer numbers continue to rise.

 » ok.

well the PC sells more than the Mac, and the ipod sells more than any other MP3 players...but that doesn't mean they are better...

it all comes down to the simple advertising for the 50's family that will buy anything that is advertised right, thats all.

my point.. while 360 may always sell more..it will never be better and impove as much as the PS3 has in the past year.

i love how nobody is sticking up 4 the wii its sooo funny and its all cause the wii sauks

both are great consoles, but microsoft should find a way to make their console invincible to the red rings...
after a couples months i will be happy to purchase a PS3.. that way when my third 360 red rings, I'll have something else to play, and MGS4 is the PS3's killer ap btw

   Re: inimrepus - 2009-01-23
 » wii/360

I have a wii and a 360 (yes I am a hard core gamer but I like Mario Kart). My 360 has never had the RROD but the way I see it is the best way to prevent it would be to change the colour to green. This way you would never know that it was wrong (unless you try to play it).
