In an interview with 1Up, DICE senior producer Owen O'Brien and producer Tom Farrer took turns answering questions and explaining the mechanics of Electronic Arts' upcoming multiplatformer, Mirror's Edge (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3).But it's not only Mirror's Edge that took the highlights of the interview. Rather, it was also the mention of future Battlefield (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) games, and how the DICE team may incorporate Mirror's Edge "physicality" with it. Imagine, all those soldiers speedvaulting, roof jumping, climbing and wall running! They're gonna be like Jackie Chan and Tom Cruise in one! Says O'Brien: I'm not sure [about] wall-running, but certainly the others -- certainly the sense of physicality in the world: the running, jumping, vaulting, [and] sliding... I think, yeah, we will definitely incorporate them into future Battlefield games. As for Farrer's part on the tag team: I think it would be very difficult for other titles -- whether they're titles within the studio or not -- to incorporate all the kind of stuff we've done, because it's taken our team a huge amount of focus to be able to do it by just focusing on that one area. But I think there's a lot smaller aspects, smaller things, that could and should be incorporated into other titles. They make a big difference. There sure are a couple of interesting implications in these statements. First is that there will be more Battlefield titles to come, and second is that the DICE team is looking towards a more evolutionary approach in terms of the franchises they hold. Incorporating new elements from other titles does seem like a good way of freshening up a franchise title, especially for one that's got a whole lot under its belt like Battlefield. But that's not till the future. For now, it's all about Mirror's Edge for the team. You can check out the rest of the interview in full by clicking on the source link below.
