While ports are definitely a good way of spreading the love, so to speak, when it comes to game titles, there are still those instances that also do contribute to the negative end of the spectrum. Case in point, Monolith's F.E.A.R. franchise.
Speaking to CVG was Project Origin's (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) primary art lead, Dave Matthews (dang, I've been had by that name again!), saying that the ports and expansions "killed off a few" of the original F.E.A.R. fans. This was in response to the noted fact that the expansions Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate from TimeGate Studios did likely introduce the brand to new people. [TimeGate] took the story in a direction that we didn't. intend. We look at Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate as an alternate universe, a 'what could have been', and because of that it doesn't necessarily diminish the story that we were trying to tell. F.E.A.R. was about Alma, F.E.A.R. 2 is about Alma, and we wanted to continue the story the way we originally intended. He also gave some insights to the PS3 and Xbox 360 ports, saying that these will be much closer to its PC counterpart. "While there will be some slight variations between the different versions, so if you're on PC you can push some things further, our main goal is to make sure the experience is synonymous across all three platforms." F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is slated to come out on February 13 next year. In the meantime, have your fill with these new screenshots from publisher Warner Bros.

» what?
No one told me that Dave Matthews of Dave Matthews Band joined Monolith...
Yeah, that joke was horrible, but meh. Small world.
But uh...yeah. Definitely gonna buy FEAR 2, I actually played and beat it on PS3, and liked it. Too much good games coming out in Feb. 2008 for my taste but I guess I'll just save the hell up for them.

Err, and where are the shadows? They're missing from most screens.
Some textures look poo too.
Looks like this game is still suffering from being ported :o(

You do realize that the PS3 was the lead platform for development this time, right?

No... and how does that answer my question?
Also, what does this mean then: 'He also gave some insights to the PS3 and Xbox 360 ports [...]'

I read in the Official PS Magazine in an interview with the dev team. They themselves said the PS3 version was the lead platform of development.

Still doesn't change the fact that some screens look like they're from the Wii - particularly the screen were the girl is closest to the camera. Look at the arm modelling and hand texture! Cr@p!
Maybe they were screens from a low spec PC!?

Maybe they were screens from an alpha built? Beta build? Obviously not the final one. And I don't know how the graphics relate to the PS3 being the lead platform of development. All that means is that they developed it on PS3 first, to refine their PS3 skills, and they said they came pretty far.
Also, it's not a fact that some screens look like "the Wii". Sure, I can see tons of textures that could use some work but it's painfully obvious it'll better than this in the final build.
Actually, the *****load of screens I saw in the latest Official PlayStation mag look 10x better than this, on the real.

I considered that at first, then thought it's a bit odd releasing screens of this quality if the game is out next month (well, February anyway).
Surely, at this late stage, the game is with the respective console manufacturers, checking for exploits, before going Gold, not remodelling and texturing!?
Dodgy texturing slips through all the time - I spotted some right clangers in Uncharted the other day!
Oh, and it is a fact that some screens could very well be from the Wii, especially the aforementioned one of the girl - not "is", but "look like".
After rereading my original questions, nothing seems to have been answered, only "maybe'd", but thanks for your time anyway.

» Once again..
Graphics don't make a game good. Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, hell, even look at the original Playstation games. Sure, they were good graphics back then and we've come a long way, but I mean.. You get my point?

No, not really, because we're discussing porting games across multiple systems, as is the article itself.
Honestly, I still play S/NES games on my Phat PSP, so you're preaching to the wrong person.
Also, not at one point have I hinted at F.E.A.R. 2 being a bad game. I had two simple questions, that's all - and that's only because I'm a 3D designer anyway, so find the subject interesting, so please don't get all moralistic on me.

"You never answered my question"
You asked where are the shadows. Obviously every single screen has them. That whole post was just bashing the graphics basically. I also then explained to you how the PS3 version isn't a "port".

» well i don't care....
i loved the first game, i nearly soiled my pants a couple of occasions when playing this game. the graphics were pretty poor considering the other games that were out at the time, but some of the scenes that were on it creeped me out big time! (like before you went down the ladder, the girl was standing there, then when you go to the bottom a guy is walking away then disappears)
hope the next one is as good!!
