GTA IV trailer announcement - Image 1Yes you read that right, more New York City politicians are reacting about that Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) trailer we featured a couple of days ago. Yesterday, we talked about Councilman Peter Vallone's opinion about the trailer ("Setting GTA in the safest big city in America is like setting Halo in Disneyland") and New York Daily News' own declaration about it.

Now, more Big Apple politicians and public servants are speaking up. According to Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, "it's despicable to glamorize violence in games like these, regardless of how far-fetched the setting may be". Jason Post, a spokesman for Mayor Michael Bloomberg had this to say:

The mayor does not support any video game where you earn points for injuring or killing police officers.

He also mentioned that ever since Bloomberg took over the New York mayoral duties, auto thefts have dropped by 58% and so far this year, the city's murder rate is also down by 28%.

For now, Take-Two Games haven't given a comment about it. Jim Ankner, one of their spokesmen, declined to give a comment to New York Daily News. We'll update you as more info comes our way.

more su(kers coming out like JT i see. its not a real town, its liberty city. it doesnt exist on earth but only in videogame virtual worlds, these su(kers are such morr0ns that they favor star wars and movies like 300 with too much violence, oh thats why we know we are on a downhill because of such people ruling lands. and heck give it a rating of 18 above like xxx sex movies. fair enough or you still wanna ride the wave of publicity, of course you know you will not sit where are are today next time. omfg

 » safest city? that's a joke

I mean, in USA there is 11 150 crimes (that cause death) per year!!!!! And if you want to compare, in Japan there is 39 crimes per years!!! And there is more than half the people!!! So anyway the US is THE baddest place to live, if you wanna grow old, lol. (I'm talking about developped contries only)

Saying N-Y is safe is a joke! I live in Montreal just few hours to the north and I see something like 3-4 crimes a year, so the TV talks about other things... (156 crimes/year in Canada).

Anyway it's not like you earn points for killing an officer, I mean, if you kill one you gotta escape, it's more like gaining something by avoiding those guys ( in an hard mission, getting some cops on you if the last thing you want ), we could even say it help us think to avoid getting into fights, knowing we'll surely get caugh ( since in real life, everybody knows there isn't pay&spray, lol. )

Anyway, splinter cell vegas got the same publicity and got in our hands anyway!

 » your stats

Did you just pull those stats out of your ass along with your common sense?... Try writing a coherent sentence first before you start making up #'s... And besides your 10 hours away (thats hardly a few) from NYC so you don't know what your talking about...

   Re: xche78x - 2007-04-01
 » btw

those 39 crimes in japan, 30 of em got punished/captured. and maybe those 9 others are still contemplating for their sins. but believe me, any state in USA is luckier than my hometown on ph-asia where we got the highest political corruption rate in the whole world, a first where we cannot be proud of i say. anyways ive migrated in japan now away from corrupt politicians.

 » FU(K Politicians

They have never and will never play any of these games, and are always looking for a scape goat to pin their problems on. In the 50's they did away with comics cause they were "ruining" the youth, even though the ESRB is one of the best rating boards out there, the MPAA never tells you what to expect from the movie you are watching, and no matter what we do it will never be enough for them. However, lets not forget that if you happen to do something wrong on that level, you get news coverage for days, as well at made for TV movies and what not, so is fantasy violence better than real violence? If we dont have any real violence what will Fox News, MSNBC, and CNN have to report about?

Truthfully I think people are going to be a lot more pist as this game nears completion..

Its rockstars fault imo. Given everything that has happend to New York I just dont see this sitting well with people..

Sucks because watch this be the game that strikes national law for video games.

They should have made it in a whole new place.... New York has been sooooo done anyhow.

   by Ok (Unregistered) - 2007-04-01
 » Big deal

The same exact thing happened with True Crimes: NYC... And like that nothing will happen... The most that will happen is that there will be a piece of paper thats included with the game that states "This game is not endorsed or recognized by the City and State of New York"

Theres no sense getting pissed off about this because Bloomberg can't do anything about it... I would be much more worried about a Jack Attack coming in the near future...

And despite how NYC is viewed by film and TV it is one of the safest/most expensive cities to live in...

Did LA complain when a nuclear bomb went off in 24? For crying out loud, does this mean all violent games have to be based in Iraq now?

i guess its fine if you play as a cop who goes around beating people, cop costumes for everyone!!!

just because he doesn't support doesn't mean hes going to move to ban it, if he does... its kinda retroactive towards the constitution, remember the thing bout free speech, media???

you can get pissed off at things but can't ban it... start banning this game, and people will start rallying about other games, might as well turn the gaming industry to making bullcrap like highschool musical *****gy singing games

Its nice to see that the politicians actually know what their talking about, since it doesn't even take place in NYC.

um yes it does. Its given the name liberty city but your not going to have that 1 little city from before. In the trailer you see brooklyn manhattan etc. You see the coney island cyclone (screamer) etc the list goes on altough it carries the same name this 1 is truly based in nyc

BTW, don't give in Rockstar and Take-Two (maybe you could represent the politicians and news people as a bunch of pricks in the game that cut you off when your driving lol jk) YEAH GTA WOOHOO!!!!!

"The mayor does not support any video game where you earn points for injuring or killing police officers."

These people are not even well informed. They still thing that we are playing PACMAN and Super Mario Brothers. The concept of points is over. Why don't they play the games themselves and see for themselves? Because they know that most of their claims are full of it and they are playing on the mindset of the older voting-adults that are usually misinformed by our crappy corporate media engine.

they have probably never even seen GTA in their whole lives. if they did they would know you DON'T GET POINTS FOR KILLING COPS. YOU GET A WANTED LEVEL AND THEY TRY TO ARREST OR KILL YOU. gimme a break.

I don't even think cops can drop money, technically there is no incentive to even kill a cop in GTA... Well.. maybe in San Andreas. I hate that guy.

Dear

In a brief introduction,

I am Ms Vivian Danjuma, 22 years old the only surviving daughter of late
Dr and Mrs Eric Danjum Danjuma, I am in possesion of some documents covering the deposit of US$7.3 Million (Seven million, three hundred thousand US dollars) which my late father deposited in one bank in Abidjan Cote d'Ivoire. I have verified the transaction with the bank here and it's authencity is clear. This fund is of no criminal origin as it was realised from sales of the alluvial gold dust.

I am soliciting for your kind assistance in retrieving and claiming this fund from the bank here as my father's business associate and have it transferred to your account in your country for investment. You will also serve as the guardian to this fund as i'm not at all knowledgeable in the international business world. I will give you further details as soon as I hear from you, and we will discuss terms and percentage subsequently but you must treat highly confidentail.

Please contact me with this my ID vivianjuma@yahoo.fr

I await for your response.
