Heads up, Square Enix fans! The Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, 360) countdown has struck zero hour and a new trailer is up for the game featuring new cut scenes, and the long-awaited battle scene! (Called it, hah.) I didn't spot Sazh or his baby chocobo anywere, but I couldn't watch it properly while writing this down, so. Sadly, the video from Square Enix's site is not embeddable, but we will post it here for you once we track down a version that is. For now, you can visit the official website by following the source link below, and behold the awesome that is Final Fantasy XIII (it's in Japanese though :p). *UPDATE* Yowza, we found it! Here's the video! It's still in Japanese though. A subtitled version is available on the English site for FF13 (called that too). You can watch it by following the source link below. *YET ANOTHER UPDATE* Some kind soul uploaded the subbed trailer on GameTrailers, and here it is for you! |

What's with all those strange names and apostrophes and unconventional capitalization in their names...
Starting to warm over the battle system btw. Loving it. ^_^

So this is coming out to the Xbox 360 and the PS3 in US? Those graphics (in and out of fights) are pretty much on par with Uncharted 2 (prolly a lil behind killzone). Makes you wonder how the port to xbox will work.
5 dvd9 (old school style, i remember FF8 took like 3 or 4 CD)
or
Down scale all the graphics to 480p, and cut the sound quality down as well. Then try to fit it on 2 dvd9.
Either way the game looks amazing and I am glad its a PS3 first, then port to xbox, I finally feel like I will get to play a game that isnt a red headed step child.

although killzone 2 graphics looks super amazing I must say uncharted 2 will look much better, you cant even compare it yet since uncharted isnt even completed.

That was just, um... Just Wow. Absolutely Amazing IMO
I don't think gameplay will be the problem with this game because it looks like they've got it locked down. Now all that I'm worried about is if the storyline will be as high quality as that gameplay if not more.
Really all I need are some good original characters for me to care about, not just some cookie cutter heroes and heroines that you'll never remember once you turn your game system off.
Even though games like 6,7, and 4 had some good characters, I just wasn't really as hooked to those characters as I was to Tidus and the gang from 10 (Probably cause I'm a youngin' who's a sucker for voice acting XD ), and because of that it was like I was in a completely different world when I played it, which was awesome for a video game.
If they can get me as hooked into the game as Final Fantasy 10 then I'm good. Well first I'd need a PS3/360 but WHEN I GET ONE! *Raises fist in anger*
This looks so awesome. I'm glad they didn't stick with the FF12 system. It looks like they took the old formula and added some new twists to it in a working way, which I like. I have really high hopes for this game.

im really looking forward to this though, cant wait. this will be my FFX while versus is my kingdom hearts/devil may cry

» it was good
but i wasnt blown away. Im sure its better than 12. but i doubt 1-10. the series has lost its feel. Im not hating, i love FF more than anyone, im just not a fan of the direction the series has taken. it just needs to stop trying to be star wars.

This has definately renewed my interest in the FF series. 10 was great, played 12 but didn't enjoy it enough to finish it. But this is definately getting me itching for more.

That's still called; "hating"
And it was better than good as dragg0n said. The movie-to-battle transition was just flawless.
FFXIII + FLAWLESS...VICTORY! XD :P

I'm not digging the whole star wars vibe either, but I'm still excited for it, hope it comes out fairly early in 10

» Uh, all those gameplay comments...
What the hell, we barely even saw any!
All we saw was a bunch of moves being pulled on the guys in a fight, we still don't have a clue how the battle system works at all! It could be another XII for all we know. They've shown the fastest-paced bits of the battles and because of that we still don't know anything!
I'm still reserving judgement on whether to buy this game or not until I know properly how the battles are going to work.

» ya....
I'm with you here.
I am a huge FF fan, moreso of the ones before 7 and I still am not sure what to think of this.
The trailer showed alot more than previous ones, but it's still not alot (especially gameplay wise). I am wondering how you move through the environment, what do the menus look like....how is the transition from selecting your move and then executing it.....
With Squenix's current track record on 360 and PS3, I too will be waiting for a review or at least ALOT more gameplay videos before I decide on it.

This trailer showed more depth of the game than all the others combined, and made me more excited for XIII (if that's possible). Not just the same clips rearranged like the other trailers were.
Hopefully XIII is more on par quality-wise with Final Fantasies Pre-XI.

» Meh...I say nay.
I knew it would be more like XII which I didn't mind, however this looks like a combination between XII and Kingdom Hearts. It looks like the party can control itself well enough but it appears that your ability to move is well...in excess. I like XII because battles stayed true to turn based combat enough so that it wasn't really easy to avoid damage, but at the same time allowed movement to allow the game to feel more realtime.
However, by the looks of the battle and seeing Lightning doing backflips after attacking an enemy relentlessly...the game may end up too easy.
I also don't really feel any interest in any of the characters...I'll buy the game (for my PS3 of course, as any real Final Fantasy fan will be), but by the looks of the characters and everything it appears that Square Enix tried too hard to appeal to Western audiences. I'm assuming that was PS3 footage because of that version being the only one released in Japan. Waiting to see if the 360 gets shafted on quality of ports like the PS3 does. Still, I'm much more interested in Versus as it looks like it's going to stay closer to Final Fantasy tradition in its characters and hopefully story, I hope the fighting isn't TOO easy like Kingdom Hearts. Still, I'll watch this game to see how it ends up.
