Devil May Cry 4Devil May Cry 4 001

Resuming the countdown,  the official website says that there's only two days left until we see Nero in action. You read right. Dante is no more. And we're just getting started on Devil May Cry 4.

According to Hideaki Itsuno, Famitsu's director, the change in lead character was made to have new and long time players start with a clean slate. He adds that one of the worries was that if the game looked too much like a sequel, new players will have a hard time of getting with the program. But no need to worry, this is not the last we'll be seeing of Dante. He's still going to make an appearance in the game as a "mysterious person" that in Nero's eyes, is the enemy that obliterated his allies. The Dante that we'll see here comes after part 1 but before part 2 (the series chronology is 3, 1, 4, 2).

We bet you're already wondering if Dante will be a playable character aren't you? Although Famitsu shows some pictures of him shooting his gun, it's too early to jump into conclusions as it could just be event scenes. But for now, let's focus on the actual playable character shall we? Nero can use his right hand to pull distant enemies in and send enemies in close proximity flying into the distance. It's not called the Devil Right Hand for nothing. He also has access to a variety of guns and swords including the Red Queen.

Another interesting tidbit comes from a translated page of Gamefront, the crude translation says, "There is a special attack of the right arm with sword and pistol, which are called “Devil Bringer”. It was not possible on the PS3." Which we can interpret in two ways. Either is going to be a move called Devil Bringer that previously wasn't possible until the PS3 or that it just isn't possible even with the PS3. Just as mysterious is an attack where your sword has an element of "acceleration." What that exactly means, we think will be revealed on the Tokyo Game Show.

Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi has also stated that we will be able to sample the game as Nero along with a surprise announcement on the said event.

 » Remember DMC2!? Me neither. . .

Remember how well Lucy (that was her name?) went over in DMC2!? That game sucked and so did the character. Although Dante's character was diff. too. We'll have to see when it comes out. Still, I'd like to play them all in a row the way the series go. : )

Even though I'm gonna be getting a 360 soon--I'm a huge DMC fan and would probably get a PS3 eventually so I could at least play this. . . and GOW3!

After reading the translation, it sounds to me like Nero is the same person he was in DMC1, except he gained some of his humanity back. His memories of Dante may still be a bit hazy. He didn't really remember him in DMC 1 either.

The thing about the arm not working on PS2 sounds very interesting as well. I'm guessing it has something to do with the 6-axis tilt of the controller.
And the fact that aireal combos will be enhanced (and that the devil arm will be a part of it) sounds very good.

So there you have it. Main character is Virgil and Dante is the mysterious antagonist, from his perspective. Kind of like Solid Snake's role in MGS2.
It's a given that Dante will be playable as well. If they did it with DMC 3 SE, they'll do it with DMC 4. Different paths. Leon & Ada anyone?

And did I say before that I wasn't hyped up for DMC 4?
Well if people can get hyped up over Assassins Creed and Gears of War, I can certainly say I'm hyped over DMC 4 now.

Gameplay vids are now needed... like air.

 » Anna S. It's "Not possible on the PS2", PS2 not PS3

You got backwards. Check out the IGN info or any other source for that matter.

 » I'm lost.

Is Nero some completeley different person or is it Nelo/Nero from DMC1? Because in English it's Nelo and Jap it's Nelo. And like someone else said, I was looking forward to a Dante :(

Virgil is Neo Angelo Not, Nero Stupids. Nero is a new character

   by Hiku (Unregistered) - 2006-09-06

("Virgil is Neo Angelo Not, Nero Stupids. Nero is a new character")

No, Virgil was Nelo Angelo, with an L.
In Japanese, Nelo is spelled as Nero.
And this being a "new" character, after looking like Dante and sharing the same name as Virgil is obviously not a coincidense.

Most likely it is Virgil with amnesia.
