Splinter Cell: Double Agent - Image 1

Here's something new for you to feast your eyes on. Stashed in the PlayStation vault are five new screens for Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent. If it's this good, then it deserves to be splashed on our front page. And that's exactly what we're doing exactly.

This new batch actually comes just in time for Splinter Cell's PS3 release. While the U.S. will be finally enjoying Sam Fisher's company on March 27 (hey, today, actually!), the Europeans will be sure to enjoy their shiny new PS3s off the launch with their copies of Splinter Cell come March 30.

Anyhow, while we're sure that a whole bunch of you are already set on getting the game, we know that there are still some who are not quite keen on picking it up from the shelves. In any case, let these screenshots do the talking. Enjoy!

Those are insane looking! Did the 360 version look like this? honestly, they look great.

 » Yep

they look the same! Expect multi-plat titles looking a like on both PS3 and x360. You will not see separate coding for every platform because that will be very expensive, the strategy for major publishers is: reuse everything you can, that means same codebase with specific tuning that takes into account platform particularities.

I remember SC:DA was 1080p on x360 (I dont know if real or upscaled) but the PS3 version will be 1080p or 720p?

Looking at these and games such as Gears of War, I don't see why people refuse to believe that developers can acheive close to the Killzone trailer footage.

"I don't see why people refuse to believe that developers can acheive close to the Killzone trailer footage"

The arguement about Killzone was one on a number of levels.

One was whether graphics like that were actually being achieved in realtime on PS3 hardware during E3 2005. Well, we know that it wasn't because it was all pre-rendered (yet many refused to accept this for almost a year).

The other point was whether the same level of detail seen in the video can be achieved in game. Well those models were workstation models consisting of millions of polygons each. Even if the PS3 had the power, it doesn't have the RAM. Hence the real game will feature the same techniques seen in games like GeOW, where polygons are kept to a minimum with very fine details on the models achieved through the use of textures and normal mapping, not more polygons.

Hence overall the devs should be able to achieve the look and feel of that Killzone trailer, just not with the same models seen in the video.

Anyway, we'll be seeing it soon, so let's wait and see. :)
