New Prince of Persia artistic visuals: Style trumps realism - Image 1The art style currently being used for Ubisoft Montreal's Prince of Persia (PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, DS) is really something. Take a closer look on the photo on the right, it's interesting and new as compared to the styles used in the previous games.

In an interview with Next-Gen,
visual art director Mickael Labat and  creative director Jean-Christophe Guyot give out the reasons why they refashioned the look and art style of the game. The guys from Ubisoft explained that they're focusing more on the style and not realism.

Labat has explained that they want the game's look to be "fantasy, but credible." Labat added that they didn't want to use realism, instead they opted for caricatures.

Furthermore, Labat mentioned that they drew inspiration from various sources. They adopted styles from Japanese movies (Princess Mononoke), comic books, and other video games (Okami, the new Street Fighter, and Mirror's Edge).

Aside from this, Guyot bolstered what they were aiming for the game. He said that:

In terms of style, we know we’re on the right track when you consider something like the new Street Fighter… we’re not as extreme as that, but it’s on the same wavelength. We don’t have to showcase technology, we can just use it. It’s no longer about how shiny our rocks are.

The statements revealed by the two are very interesting, indeed. They're taking a different path in terms of developing the visuals of the game. We'll keep you guys updated with more information and updates on the game.
