Part of the charm of the Uncharted franchise is, undoubtedly the witty script brought to life by voice actors such as Nolan North. But what's this we hear that for its Hollywood version, Sony will be signing up "household actors" instead for the parts, thereby overlooking North for the lead part of Nathan?

Uncharted movie - Image 1

Not so fast, Mr. North

In the Official PlayStation Podcast, North shares some details:

Actually I just spoke with Ari Arad... Yeah, I want to do the movie. I mean I would love to do it as Nathan Drake and if I keep getting such recognition as bringing this character to life like no one else can, I would love to play myself. But I've been in this business for long time now and I've done film, I've done television and I understand the realities of the business.

He further divulged that the investors for the film would only be more likely to put in their dough in the Uncharted hat if well-known actors are in it. So, if it's not gonna be Nolan North, who would he prefer to play Nathan?

I would love them to get Hugh Jackman if they're not going to use me... I think the producers really would like to see Jackman because... he has that tough guy exterior but... there's a lot going on behind those eyes. There's a lot of emotion and sensitivity on that brusque exterior. And he has great comic timing. I mean, he's a phenomenal actor and I just hope that I get a part in the movie where I get to work with Hugh.

Somehow I just can't get grizzly Wolverine off my head. Do you agree with North's choice?

 » That's Dumb!

Why not make a movie using the same actors and done the same way they made the game cinematics but maybe with higher quality and more refined visuals. That is a lot of the reason for the franchises success in the first place. Having other actors will not have the same winning appeal.

 » But...

I agree with you completely... but I am afraid that any non-PIXAR movie will never have the Hollywood power to pull in $100 million+.

Uncharted has a chance to do this with a big name star and solid backing.

please read the article clearly, nolan said that the investors might not put their dough on the film if the main actor is not played by a well-known actor.. no investors, no money, no movie.. as simple as that..

 » Joe Flanigan

The most I see Stargate Atlantis the more I believe the face and behaviour of Nathan Drake was based on Joe Flanigan from SG Atlantis... This are twins and act exactly the same just see this:

The same smirk, the same everything, and the voice is almost the same also! It has to be him!

Hugh Jackman should also be considered as Snake if there's going to be a MGS movie :D

Come on guys... they want HOUSE HOLD names.

Nathan Fillion can make a jump from B-actor greatness to the A-List.

Joe Flanigan might be able to pull this off but he probably wouldn't be considered.

Now, I have to jump on a band-wagon. What about Chris Pine?

I think he had the comedic timing and the swagger to pull off James T. Kirk in the new Start Trek. Plus, he looks the part.

Check out this picture...

Now put it side by side with the Nathan Drake picture... I can see it. Can you?

yeah Joe Flanigan is totally Nathan Drake but seeing as they want some well known actor to generate sales I dont see him being considered...I wouldn't mind seeing the movie done in CGI with the real voice actors cause well I've seen how well the cinematics in the game were done and a whole movie like that would be awesome.

 » Not Hugh

I can't see Hugh Jackman as Nathan. Just doesn't fit the bill. I can however see Fillion or Flanigan. Even David Boreanaz believe it or not. I can also see Matthew McConaughey or Ryan Reynolds lol. I also like Keir O'Donnell for his witt and look.

As for Jackman as Snake, that's a no as well. I'm still seeing Eric Dane as Snake. His size and build are perect and I think he could pull off a good Snake. Don't know why people are throwing Christian Bale's name around for Snake. maybe a young Snake. I'm still partial to Tom Cruise if it weren't for the high pitch voice.

"I'm still partial to Tom Cruise if it weren't for the high pitch voice."

... And the fact he is only 4 ft tall.

» Noah Wyle or Jim Caviezel

I dont see Jackman as a good choice - he can act but he isnt Nathan Drake.

Noah Wyle or Jim Caviezel look the part.
Nathan Fillion has the right vocals/comedic timing. but I'd rather have North get the part.

Never has a video game actor played their character in a film adaptation (that I am aware).

 » omg!

they have to have the voice actors be the regular actors. they all look like their digital characters anyway! especially elena, freakin hot

 » Eddie Cibrian!

the only good choice. perfect

   by RexNox - 2009-10-28
» The most obvious choice for me...

would be Josh Holloway. He's pretty much playing the character already on Lost. And, he has a familiar face to the comic-con-type audience.

Anyway, it's the voice actor's ability to deliver his lines that really makes Nathan Drake come alive. And, Holloway is the only actor I think even comes close.

Jackman tends to shine when he's animated (not referring to the discipline of animation). When calm, Jackman is rather boring.

And, I don't care if the real actor looks like Drake (although I'm sure many ppl would). If I were to go see this movie, the actor would have to have the voice actor's (perhaps via the director's) perfect timing.

To be honest, it would probably fare better as an animated primetime episodic TV show than a movie. At least, this would open up the market as not everyone owns a PS3 and even those who do, not all play Uncharted.
