Ó

oblivionAs a follow up to our earlier article about The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion being a launch title for the PS3 in November, we're gonna give the news to you straight from the guys at Bethesda Softworks themselves. But first, let's give a game primer for the benefit of those who are not yet familiar with the game, shall we?

Hmm..let's see, where do we start? With the free-form gameplay, stunning graphics, or cutting edge AI? Well anyhoo, no matter which one matters the most to you, Oblivion has them all. And if that isn't enough to peak your interest, perhaps the game's soundtrack and voice actors will; Sean Bean, Terrance Stamp, Lynda Carter, and Patrick Stewart will be lending their voice talents to the game.

Still not interested? Alright, maybe this will: the game is set after the mysterious and untimely death of the Emperor, leaving the throne of Tamriel empty. As the Empire lies in a sea of anarchy, the gates of Oblivion open and demons invade the land, laying to waste to everything in their path and enveloping the empire in utter darkness. Your mission: to be the ray of sunlight in the land and find the lost heir to throne to prevent total destruction of Tamriel plotted by the demons.

Now, if that still doesn't get you going, then we don't know what will. Oh, maybe the news that The Elder Scrolls Travels: Oblivion will be released on the PSP in Spring 2007? Or that come Oct.10, Oblivion's gameplay, graphics, and new content will be previewed in OPM (Official US PlayStation Magazine)? The same magazine, which, by the way, declared that "If any game is worth the price of the PS3, Oblivion is it."

If you still manage to yawn after all this, damn you're a tough one to crack. But for the others who are as excited about this as we are, we promise to keep you posted for more updates.

Wow, a PSP game that I am really looking forward to. I wish PSP wouls add achievements to give us online junkies a reaso to trudge through offline games.

Wii is going to outsell PS3 this year, that isnt a hurting. Wii -60 for me. I'll shell out for a PS3 when they comeout with an exclusive game worth 0.

are people retarded?
this game is out for the PC and you can upgrade or buy a new PC for a fraction of the cost of this game,ps3 and an HDTV capable of playing at 1028p,i mean really...
if this is a "killer app" then people are beyond stupid.

don't get me wrong, the 360 fall in the same boat, why would you pay top dollar for a game like this when the PC version is cheaper and the PC costs about the same,Hell even get a graphic card that comes with video/audio outputs....

why pay for a system that costs more than a PC when the system does 1/10th of what a PC can do.

PC > 360/PS3/Wii
and directx will be more powerful than an xbox360 when vista gets released.

plus it plays cds,dvds,hddvd,blu-ray among dozens of other features and it's backward compatible with all the old systems *wink*

Fraction of the cost my ass, a reliable pc for oblivion equates to reasonable CPU, new graphics card, and a 5.1 surround capable sound card--just to even things out. I'm no PC junkie but anybody with a "brain" can sum it up to at least 500 for the BARE MINIMUM. A 360 is a console that’s capable of modern PC's for a little bit more than the graphics card its built on. Same can be said for the ps3 cxpt that ps3 has a blu-ray drive, which means you add some smackers.

By the way, I'm discounting the cell, whatever 360 uses and the hard drives since those CPU aren't of the norm, and hard drives are standard.

And just to be biased: PS3 is the best.

Sony has everyone under the impression that their online service is free. However, they never really explain the details on what is actually free.

If Sony announces that you have to pay a monthly or yearly plan to play games against other poeple online how will you feel? Will you still get the system after they lied to us?
I know I will not buy.

The only DECENT gaming system is a top of the line system from Alienware like this one: http://alienware.com/product_detail_Pages/area-51_alx/area-51_overview.aspx?SysCode=PC-AREA51-ALX-R5&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT
$6000+ without a monitor? No, I'd personally stick with a PS3 and a 1080p plasma. DX10 is overrated, just like every other DX that came out so I don't know what you're talking about. Vista will be hacked in a matter of months, as with every other thing Microsoft has created.

LOL...besides the PC is not even a pure gaming machine. With a $1000 price restriction, you could go and get a PS3 and a 27" HDTV as compared to getting a PC that runs on decently with a 17" monitor. Still you'd have ram issues and your video card'll bottleneck your experience, since you can't get that $500 video card that's comparable to what the PS3 can output. So there, you can't compare when it comes to the bang for the buck. I'd personally have a $600 PS3 than a $600 PC. Besides, the lifespan on the PS3 is guarenteed at least 5 years, as the PC'll be crap in a year or so.

OKAY, if you were to compare a $1500 PC to a PS3, I can guarentee you'll upgrade the RAM and video card in a few years just to try to keep up with your PC techies. Also, new games that'll be designed for the PC will not be designed specifically for YOUR system...and so you'll be worried about your framerates, lag, etc. Therefore, pushing the most out of your system would be something you'll have to constantly scour the net for. New drivers, overclocking tools, etc. It's sad that your newly bought PC will be "obsolete" in two years or so, more so than an average console. GG

Games are more than just glittering textures and high frame rates. It's about the gameplay itself. With that in mind...

Oblivion blows. I have it on my PC and the graphics are mindblowing, but it's too geeky. Also, the game has nothing on GTA, WoW, or Final Fantasy....games that innovated it. I suppose it's because it's an American RPG that's offline. 'Nuff said.

 » load times

My roomate has a high end PC.. nothing outrageous, oblivion ran better on it than it did on the pc... not by much, just smoother frame rate.

I still enjoyed the game on the 360,it is one of the best and most engrossing games I ever played..

glad its coming to PS3,,but I bet the load times will be terrible. Think about it: Scanning large texture files (due to increased blu ray capacity), on a slow slow slow 2x BD drive.

 » ps3 will fail

The XBOX 360 has had oblivion. So has the PC. When the PS3 comes out with Oblivion as its main selling point people are gonna buy xbox 360. About the same graphics plus... immagine this...teh xbox is ~250 bucks cheaper! so why dont you just pick up a xbox360 and a wii for the same price as the ps3?! you'll get the best of both worlds! The only reason i can think of for buying a ps3 is final fantasy possibly.... but ime sure the xbox or wii will have some eaqually good stuff.

We already have oblivion... make something new or oridgional or nobody will buy it! Take xbox for example. It prolly wouldnt have done very good if Halo didnt come out at that time as well as project gothem racing. The first release games are everything and if oblivions the best they got then its gonna go the same path of the psp. The psp is only starting to get *a few* ok games and its already suffering

» i cant stand the 360 or the wii

you stupid pricks think you know everything dont you. i had an xbox 360, it was a peice of crap, because they sucked. the graphics arent as good as everyone thinks, its just the graphics card pushing the game. and quite dissing sony because just like the ds, you think touching is good, so go play with your wii you *****gots. the ps3 is going to blow all others out of the water, and you people will have your thumbs to far up your ass to realize

Since when is Oblivian the selling point for the PS3??? This just means that its not a 360 exclusive and the millions of people who didn't buy a 360 can enjoy Oblivian.

IMO, oblivian is no big deal on any console or pc.

I wonder if you said the same thing with GTA??? I hope you didn't miss out on those fun games because they were released later on the 360... if you did, then you're an idiot.

   by haha (Unregistered) - 2006-10-02
 » duh...

Oblivian was a selling point for the 360, its just another game on the PS3
