You know it's a great survival-horror game if it got itself banned in three countries. It seems Electronic Arts' Dead Space packs a bit too much gory punch as it's been banned in Germany, Japan, and China. Well now I really want to get my hands on the game already. Electronic Arts hasn't made any announcements on what it intends to do about it yet. I wouldn't have expected a ban from Japan though, seeing as they gave us The Ring and The Grudge. You'd think they'd be fond of games that wouldn't let you sleep out of fear. Dead Space has been moved up from its original release date, and will be released on October 14 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The PC version will follow on October 20. I'm looking forward to seeing Dead Space alien/trash-can helmet costumes this Halloween. Related Articles:

» yeah, it's wierd that japan banned the game
The japs are always making horror games, I wonder why they banned this one :S.
Anyway, I won't buy the game, useless gore is not my type of horror game. Still, I guess I need to see more of the game to judge.

» They could
sell the game by saying "The horror game that got banned from Japan." and they would make a lot of sales by that alone.

» and siren, RE4, silent hill are ok?
is this worse than all the horror games coming our of japan? House of the dead, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Alone in the Dark, Siren? Either theres something we don't know (something terrible in the game) or theres some sort of code of morals in Japan that says horror, violence and gore for the sake of story-telling is ok, but when it is gross for the sole purpose of gore its distasteful? Maybe it's because you have to kill your loved ones in it?

» Bet you guys didn't know this...
Her is a funny contradiction... To my knowledge (since 1997/98) Japan and Korea have had no ratings system on violence.
The only gross slant was their censorship on displays of nudity.
Any of you folks that think the USA has a big hangup about sexuality should spend a year in Korea trying to find a porno mag on their publication shelves.
You could show all the breasts you want, but no bared pubic areas.
All of our movies shown over there have the 'intimate' scenes chopped out of the theatrical version. Plus, the subtitles don't reflect our use of profanity the same way. (If the "F" bomb gets dropped in a line of dialogue the translation covers it up by printing something like 'shoot' or 'damn'.)
Gives a person reason to wonder...

For a country that wanted to wipe out half the earth in favor of a certain race, they sure are anti-gore in video games. I mean, Wolfenstein is one thing, shooting Nazis and all, but a space-age survival horror game? Hm.
