DualShock 3's product specs unveiled - Image 1DailyTech is reporting that Sony's PlayStation 3 rumble controller, otherwise known as the DualShock 3, has already reached the FCC, meaning that it's now one step closer to hitting game shops everywhere.

While most of the information is apparently under a confidentiality request, DailyTech didn't go away completely empty-handed. There's some new information on the DualShock 3's specifications, such as the model number and power supply, so read on!

First off, we have the makeup of the unit itself. The DualShock 3, model number CECHZC2U,
measures 93.7 x 157 x 62.3 mm and weighs 193 grams. Second, the power comes from a DC 3.7V battery, with a power supply of
DC 5V via the USB port on the PS3.

Moreover, we have some additional specs that techies might like. The DualShock 3 has a clock frequency of
26MHz and 4MHz, and its Bluetooth radio operates on frequencies between 2402 and 2480 MHz.

As for additional information, you'll have to wait 31 more days, at most. An 45-day embargo was also mentioned, and the embargo means that any additional product specs and info can't be mentioned by sources outside Sony during the said period. Luckily, it began on November 6, so there's only 31 days left till the embargo gets lifted.

In the meantime, you can check the source link for the quick, turbulent history of the DualShock 3, as well as see a product sticker for the controller.

 » Want Dualshock 3 Now?

Then just buy one on eBay from Japan! That's what I did!

Arrived yesterday, Ceramic White, works fine on my UK PS3. The only problem I got at the moment is I'm not sure if any of my games (PES, Motorstorm, THP8, F1CE) actually support the rumble feature! The downside being that I have a rumble controller, quite probably one of the first to hit the UK, and I got nothing to test it out on!

All I can say is, it's slightly heavier (which in my opinion, is nicer, it feels much more like a controller should), the battery charge is about the same, and the ceramic white is... well... WHITE! Not like PSOne white, but whiter than PSP white! So sexy!

Gonna go see if any of my PS2 or PSOne games work with the rumble... Back in a bit!

Just as the Dualshock 3 reaches the FCC, it should be reaching my house! Sony themselves said the Japanese controller would work on all PS3s, so I'm not expecting any problems.

 » swapped buttons

dont the japanese controllers swap the x and circle buttons?

If thats the case surley you might as well wait till the official release? that'll also give all the developers time to patch any games that need patching.

Ive got a ps2 adapter that already supported rumble for ps2 games emulated on the 60gb ps3. i wonder if patched ps3 games like motorstorm and resistance will work via that

 » Nah, you're mistaken.

It's the games that decide that. There's no reason to wait.

 » I got mine yayyyy!!!!!

It's awesome too! Not really heavy at all. Feels great in my hands and the rumble isn't retardly over bearing. Works great on motorstorm and drakes! I'm glad I got mine because my old boys were shot and needed to be put out to pasture lol.... Don't wait, get yours now www.japanvideogames.com -holla

» If the Dualshock 3 is region free

Than why take so long to send it everywhere. It makes no sense. The Japanese controllers can work anywhere yes, so why the delay sounds stupid to me.

 » meh

as usual, morons say things they don not even have the slightest idea "moronic" for short.
possible reasons why the dual shock 3 is not released worldwide simultaneously are:
a. patent not yet approved / slow process of patent on the country of which the product is delayed.
b. not fast enough manufacturing, maybe due to several factors like inadequate factories to fulfill a large demand, insufficient parts or other things that can cause hindrance.
c. sony is testing japan market first for the possible demand outcome
d. sony maybe implementing a reward to the japanese sony fans due to their better support than foreign fans (which i highly doubt can be true)
e. sony has been a company older than most blabbering noobs, so stfu coz they can do whatever they want with their own product.

Cause if so be quiet. What they should have done was worldwide release this from the get go and make sure its approved everywhere.
