Truth be told, I haven't really kept up with Dashhacker's progress on his reverse engineering of the PS3's Remote Play feature. It's still good to hear that he's made great strides towards finally releasing a usable app, though.
The dev has posted a little update on the PS3 Hacks forums that sets a Friday release for the API "depending on how the builds go". Keep in mind that a Friday release is the best-case scenario. You never know what kinds of bugs suddenly pop up and ruin all estimates, so keep your fingers crossed but don't hold your breath just yet. In the meantime, here are a couple of screenshots of the GUI: As for the progress, here's Dashhacker's status report on his project: COMPLETE:
TODO:
There is only one more thing left to do before I can release a BETA, and that's build ORP for Mac OSX and Windows. There will not be a static Linux binary, simply because it's a pain in the ass. However, Linux users can always compile their own binary from source when released. Related articles: |

I'm all for it as long as it doesn't lead to piracy on the system.

agreed piracy is the last thing "we" need. I'm glad the person responsible for this brew is dedicated to his PS3 like I am. Let's just hope it leads to a happy relationship between "us and Sony".

it's never really about piracy when a system is hacked it's about having full control over a system we own.
with this being a good point as a nice little homebrew type App that helps us in doing the things we like BUT sony is going to make a update just to block it.

This is exactly how the psp started out if you remember. The first attempts to hack the firmware were just to run cute homebrew games programmed in lua. Eventually they got so good at it that they made their own firmwares and started making homebrews to run ISO files. Now hardly anybody buys games for the psp and it shows with the space between game releases.
I wouldn't blame sony for stopping any form of exploit before it gets out of hand. Still they seem to be warming up to third party developers so maybe they will take these people in as part of their team for future firmware ideas.
I just don't like the idea of something I payed so much for being turned to ***** because people are cheap.

I hate it when ppl talk about piracy. where in this post does it say this will lead 2 piracy? usually the people objecting to it are secretly the ppl wanting to do it the most? unlocking and piracy are 2 different. Unlocking I support. piracy I neither support or dismiss.its about privilege escalation and how u c things robin hood stole from the rich 2 give 2 the poor. I want 2 c this unlocked. I don't understand how reverse engineering remote play will do that but please continue.

I didn't say it would lead to piracy but one tiny hole in the integrity of the firmware is all a good hacker would need to run other programs and eventually iso loading. Thats how it happened with the psp. I don't think anyone was modifying the psp back then with the intention of giving everybody free games but it turned into that. I like the idea of cool gadgets on my system as much as the next guy but I saw where it took the psp, and the ps3 is too expensive for them to allow that.
Kind of a having your cake and eating it too. If sony ignores it, we get something cool but it escalates into a huge ***** storm of piracy and bricked systems. Maybe sony can take them in and make what they created into something official that doesn't leave a huge door open in security. Either that or we will see a security update on friday.

» Won't lead to piracy
This will allow streaming media from ps3 not piracy. Just the ability to run romote play on other portable devices.
Should be cool though.

What good will streaming media 2 our pc's be. I thought it would lead 2 piracy lol not that I am 4 it. the ps3 is too expensive which is y some people pirate.but then again don't buy it if u can't pay 4 it? the psp's problem was not piracy but a lack of gud consistent games, app's , and movies, accessories, u can't pirate accessories. I hope that it does get unlocked further please not 4 piracy 4 say but to reach it's full potential
