PS3's on ebay UK - Image 1

Of course, whenever a new console launches the eBay pirates come out in force, selling consoles for sometimes twice what they have paid for them. However, there appears to have been a bit of a slowdown on eBay with the imminent UK release of the PS3. The console is due for release in two hours (12 a.m. GMT) from this article being written, and usually this would be the time when all budding entrepreneurs would be out in force. But...the consoles are actually selling for less than their retail prices.

Some are going for £425 + delivery (retail price), but others with only minutes to go are hovering around £300, with one exception being a person who gave a £600 on a PS3. The extreme example in the screenshot shows 10 PS3's being sold for £4,000, and we can tell you that they eventually sold for £4,475.00 including delivery which comes to £447.5 each. Now, when you add the eBay fees which will be quite a lot for an item of £4,000+; the seller is actually making a loss on their PS3s.

As a UK gamer myself I am quite interested in these stats and will be on hand tomorrow to check on the progress of this. I also want to see what happens with the eBay listings when the PS3s finally reach buyers hands. Expect an update from us.

thats no very smart for them because compared to the U.S. launch retailers in UK have way more PS3s in stock to sell and even if they do run out people will probably just wait a few more days for more to come

Ebay is a fencing operator's dream. These units were probably stolen anyways.

With Ebay, it has been easy for shoplifting gangs and burglers to fence their stuff onto legitimate money.
