Another item which is not supposed to be out for public consumption has leaked out to the Internet: the JIG install setup folder for the PS3. Before you go gaga over this exploit, do take not that it's actually pretty useless without the necessary related software. And since this is illegal, sorry but you're not getting it from our site.

JIG Set-Up files - Image 1

We do have a screenshot as well as information, though, if that would appease your curiosity. For one, it's been said that the leaker is one such hackerpointer. As for the included files:
  • Lv2diag.self: crashes on a Debug console, likely used for lv2 diagnostics.
  • PS3UPDAT.PUP: a very tiny updater PUP, enough for just a 'base' system. It doesn't run on any system the resident PS3 Devs currently have access to.
  • UPDATER_LOG.TXT: simply a service mode updater log.
We'll have more news for you on this as it comes. Keep it posted here on QJ.

 » Jesus christ.

I'd think you guys would have the brains not to link to that site, after all the sh*t they've done to the PSP scene.

Not to mention that those files are quite illegal.

   Re: ps3ispoop - 2009-01-08
» Free Play can suck a big fat one on this subject.

PS3 Owners need some type of exploit to make their system worth while and so they can recoup their lost funds for a junk system. You guys have seen the graphics comparisons. You know about the lies about how the PS3 can do 1080p...oh and over 2 HDMI outs. Ha hahaha ha. I would rather buy add-ons than let a Japanese company lie and crap all over me. You guys drank the kool aid. $30 for a blu-ray disc. I'm here to play games. We all know that the Xbox 360 has all of the best games on its side. I play my games at 60fps with no lag or jaggies.

   Re: Binary - 2009-01-08
 » lol forget it about

QJ is a big screw up anyways.

They need to suck a big fat one. (No offense to FreePlay)

FreePlay is always doing this, everything he doesnt find first sucks. I thought he might have changed ater releasing his latest expoit (for GripShift) but I guess I was wrong, dude, seriously, get a life. Sto .... oh wait a minute. I just realized something! Your a freakin Xbox fanboy! It al makes sence now! You complain about everything that helps the PS3 in anyway. NOW I UNDERSTAND!

» Just a Question (Maybe a dumb one at that)

Why exactly are those files illegal? It seems that everyone and their mother is hell bent on trying to fully exploit the PS3 (with some progress being made) and now that someone comes up with this, it's illegal. I'm not extremely familiar with hacking, but can someone answer this?

   Re: sesa - 2009-01-06
 » Maybe

Every attempt to exploit the PS3 is considered illegal(?)

   Re: Ron Overdrive - 2009-01-06
» Re: Just a Question (Maybe a dumb one at that)

There's no stupid questions only stupid answers: This was leaked, ie stolen and thrown on the net, from Sony. This is Sony code we're not suppose to have. That's why it's illegal.

I for one know all about the crap that site did as I was a forum mod there and got kicked out for standing up for the crap they did to the public. No, I wasnt involved in the modding of the files I was involved in the forums thats all.
I did to a lot of damage before I was fully kicked so I had my revenge on them. a-holes.

Anyway, those files dont do much. well for one I dont have a clue where they go and what to do with them when I get them in the right places.

So, these are the files to make a jig? So it can put it in service mode? Useless until the devs find a way to do something when its in service mode.

If this does work and get the PS3 in service mode then the next step is to mod the firmware to do what we want with it. Homebrew, ISOs, and whatever else we can think to do with it.

   Re: Ron Overdrive - 2009-01-06
 » Re: Files

So far any leaked code we've gotten for the PS3 doesn't do much. Unless this somehow allows us to gain kernel mode or grant unsigned code access for user mode it's pretty much useless till we figure out the PS3 firmware like we did with the PSP.
   by 3laiwy - 2009-01-06
 » doesn't mean anything

in the end sony will do something about this.
Look what happend to BD-J, it doesn't even have
access to the PS3 NAND chips and they blocked it.

Don't keep your hopes up on this one, we don't even have access to these files...

now all we need is the "magic" power cord!

Re: Mister Common Sense - 2009-01-06

Datel said the were developing a pandora's power cord for the PS3.

   Re: Achooist - 2009-01-07
 » Wait..huh.

You know, I got to thinking about this the other night, and said, why won't it actually work?

I somewhat know how a Pandora Battery operates software wise, but not too much the hardware.

Flame me telling me why it wouldn't work or politely explain...if that's possible over the Internet.

Can the power brick not hold data and a battery can or what?

 » Funny

You guys are funny. "And since this is illegal, sorry but you're not getting it from our site."
So according to you Wii homebrew and PSP CFW is not? Even though both nintendo and sony are attempting to stop them?

   Re: ISOHaven - 2009-01-06
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

They don't mean to say the "actions" are illegal. They mean to say these actual files are illegal to possess. It's called STOLEN GOODS.

PSP CFW is not stolen code.

   Re: DrWho1980 - 2009-01-06
» there is a big difference

Actually, no...

cfw isn't illegal since they don't spread sony code. They spread patches that you can use to change the sony code you get from sony itself.

This however is code from sony that was stollen, which is illegal to have.
To make it more clear to you, what would be illegal is for you to spread cfw after it was installed. The patch files itself are just a bunch of bytes that on its own do nothing and have nothing to do with sony copyrights.

Sony just wants to stop cfw because game-companies wouldn't make any games for there system if they didn't try to prevent cfw/hacking.

   Re: DontCryIfYouDie - 2009-01-06
 » ....

qj doesnt host illegal files, the psp CFW you are talking about is only part of the programme in which creates CFW. and of vcourse then you would need offcial psp firmware to use with, which is leggaly obtainable. files hosted here arnt illegal because there freeware and AFK i think only excuting that code on your systemwuld be the only thing classed as illegal not having obtained it. the difference here is that this is of sonys code and it was intentional to be given to publicly. thus its most likely, illegal just to have these files.

   Re: DontCryIfYouDie - 2009-01-06
 » typo

it was NOT intentional. plus those others guys pretty much summed it up
   by lee123 - 2009-01-06
 » its llegal

as people have said as this is sony code, i remember wanikkokko (a well known wii homebrew developer) updated one of his apps, and i read in the change log he had to write it from scratch as the previous version contained illegal nintendo code

lol, QJ you make me laugh, you think your so "lawful" yet you have *****gle ads all over your site. God only knows what else that monopoly is advertising besides pirated content.

   Re: ISOHaven - 2009-01-06
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

What is wrong with ADs? From what I can tell they are within policy for their Google ADs. Unlike many other people like PS3NEWS for example. They have WAY MORE then 4 ADs per page, they use ADs other then Google ADs and they use an AD that redirects the user from the page. All against policy.

Incase I didn't spell it out enough, PS3NEWS is nothing but jackasses!!!

   Re: Justingraziano - 2009-01-06
 » ...

I couldnt agree more, PS3NEWS is horrible, but QJ.NET scammed me awhile back. I payed for their PREMIUM membership so that I would get ad free viewing of the website and never got it nor did I get a refund. Google ads in general are bad. Honestly, just look at them, almost all of them are to illegal torrent sites that host torrents for PSP games.

   Re: Justingraziano - 2009-01-06
 » ...

And Google NEVER replies to reports either. You can report and report and report, they never do anything. Its like they actually WANT illegal ads in their network.

   Re: Binary - 2009-01-08

Thats why Google is #1

   Re: ultimax - 2009-01-08

Should Google care?

What are you, a f*cking aspie? You harp on this at every opportunity LIKE ANYONE GIVES A FLYING F*CK.

Go watch Jeopardy, Rainman.

   Re: Justingraziano - 2009-01-09

And I will continue to harp on it until I get my refund.

It's THREE DOLLARS, you worthless manwhore.

This is why the XBOX360 is better.

because we get free games 4 lyfe.

If the PS3 gets hacked ill definetly get one.

Good Luck Ps3 owners.
