orp - Image 1Homebrew coder Dashhacker has released a new version of Open Remote Play, a program that lets you access the PS3's Remote Play feature from any laptop, desktop or mobile phone. The new beta now supports SIXAXIS/DS3 controllers and adds mouse support, an improved full-screen mode and more.

Here is the full changelog:

  • Fixed Edit profile page height under Windows. Save, Delete, and Cancel buttons are now visible.
  • Mouse motion events are now sent only while holding the ALT key down from within full-screen mode.
  • Vastly improved full-screen mode. Scales video to desktop resolution, much faster and now works as expected under Windows.
  • Added proper padding for audio/video packets. This fixes the random read access violation crashes under Windows.
  • Switched to AVPacket structures in preparation for implementing proper audio/video synchronization (PTS/DTS).
  • Added PS3 'chime' sample which plays when a connection has been established.
  • Fixed missing windows icon.
  • Added support for left and right analog sticks.
  • Added support for all SIXAXIS/DS3 buttons.
  • Added mouse support.
  • Added SELECT (F3) and START (F4) keyboard mappings.
  • Fixed CTRL-key issues, thanks to lethalwp for the patch.

This kind of app is almost useless.. and it is not the developers fault, it is Sony's . There is almost no reason to use remote play since you can only play like 2 PSN titles and check your messages. Sure you can watch videos and listen to music, but can't your laptop already do that? I want to be able to play games!

Remote play is far from useless. I just used it for several hours today to control my PS3, which I was using to play music through my TV while I was outdoors.

This is much more useful if you have a shared PS3 but only one PSP, and the person with the PSP takes it around with them.

I've been using it quite a bit for accessing my PS3 on a friends laptop when I forgot my PSP to view my movies and music from my PS3. And with the PSP as well I tend to use Remote Play a lot. It's one of my favorite features of the machines.

 » I can't use this

My IdKeys are too messed up for Chilly willy's key cleaner to fix
and the other standard key cleaner says
"too messed up to fix"
How can I fix that because that is what is not letting me use it.

 » well

PixelJunk Eden worked fine when I tried it, Jet Moto ps1 title from the store gave an instant crash, and I read that launching Life with Playstation warrants an instant crash so I didn't try it.
