Within a day after the update the problems were gone. Menu speed is great again, no extra beeps, no random shut down... seems good after you give it a bit and shut down the system manually a few times
The 2.0fw update was pretty disapointing, now this?
No thanks, I'll stick with 1.94. If in game XMB comes around, then I'll update again, but I have rumble support and a new Dualshock 3 coming from Play Asia so I'm not updating any time soon!
2.0 must have been a rush job or something.
fine, dont update. you just wont be able to access any online features.
and none of these supposed "bugs" have even been confirmed. i have never had any problems with 2.0 and neither have 99% of PS3 users.
And i dont see the point of in-game xmb. Sony already made stuff like music and messages avaliable ingame. its up to the developers to implement them.
The troubles which are persisting are related to HD displays. If you're playing on an SDTV, you'll have absolutely no perception of the problems.
I can give you undisputable proof that there's display problems, at least in 1080i (progressive scans seem unaffected).
Set your TV to 1080i (provided your TV supports it) and go to the Internet Browser, you'll see the icon to the left of the IP address is cut off by about a third by overscanning.
The same issues plague DVD and PS2 upscaling, which is always displayed Interlaced (despite what some of you want to believe, PS2/DVD displays in only 480p or 1080i) On FFXI, you'll see the same overscanning problems, cutting off pixels on either side. The upscaling is also completely gone.. leaving the process up to the TV alone.
Finally, you may find that your PS3 thinks all TVs are 1080p, even though (like my own), they are not.
In the case of Blu-Ray, I think the PS3 may be outputting only in 1080p where the users TV does not support it, as a result you see only a black screen. I've heard similar issues with people on PS2 games.
The BD issue can be temp fixed by going to BD/DVD options and turning HDMI 1080p 24Hz Output to OFF.
I havent found an issue that fixes the PS2 problem.. other than maybe turning off all display options but 480p before trying to play PS2.
But yeah.. as much as I dont want to bash Sony.. I assure you there are problems and no, it is not an Xbox conspiracy.
You do realise that by checking the 1080p/24hz checkbox, you are telling your PS3 that your TV supports 1080p/24hz.. Why on earth would you consider it a bug if your PS3 then started to try and use that resolution... That is not a bug, that is user error.
Clicking on my tv remote display button shows what the PS3 is displaying and for my PS2 games and DVDs they show at 1080p.
I've noticed some problems while playing Motorstorm online. Sometimes after a race, I loose the connection to the servers, which NEVER happened before the update.
I have an hdtv (2 actually) and neither has had a problem with the 2.0 update. One is a 480 i/p - 1080i tube and the other is a 1080p plasma. So I think if there were "problems " with the update, I'd have seen something.
People kill me with this attitude that if THEY'RE having problems then the whole world needs to stop turning and give them a hug. If you're having technical issues, report them and there will be a solution. Keith K sounds like he doesn't have a clue how to properly set up his tv for use with a PS3.
If you own complicated hardware then it behooves you to actually read the manual for it and at least ATTEMPT to learn its features for situations just like these.
Sony's not going to account for EVERY hd set in existence there's too many variables. HD sets are a new tech and every brand wants their proprietary menus/features to be the accepted norm. Anyone with common sense knows that's not how the real world works.
If you seriously cannot operate high end gear stick to sdtv sets and the Wii. Just plug and play and be happy.
If you're up for it, then do some research, read your manuals and actually attempt to solve your own problems and not wait for someone else to solve them for you.
Or maybe you just enjoy coming onto the internet and whining?
Too often, the problems that I read about end up to be user-error instead of an actual problem with hardware. Most frequently, it is because the user actually starts to use the electronics without bothering to read its manual.
For example, from day one, the 360 manual implies that moving the 360 while a game disc is running may damage the disc, yet people don't read this warning, move their console anyway and then make a fuss when their disc goes belly-up on them.
There may be genuine instances where people do have problems, but I doubt they are as widespread as people seem to imply.
The problems are not limited only to HD TV users, Im currently using a rather naff standard Definition TV and I've had a few problems wherein the controllers could not turn on the machine, the powering up takes longer than normal and I've had a few errors with PSN network connections which can only be sorted by a hard reset (turning off the machine on the back)...
The problems I've received are not a regular occurance and don't warrant the playstation flaming that will inevitably be bought to the topic by xbots, but there are problems, mostly, from what I can tell, regarding the remote play settings.
All the same though, the 2.0 update has been a positive step forward in my book, with the plausibility of user generated content, in the form of custom themes, improved organisation of files and generally faster browser/download times... overall, the update has been great... Here's hoping that they'll roll out a 2.01 update soon to remedy the bugs...
You're a pompous Jack ass.. You've already said enough to completely discredit yourself. I need say nothing more in my defense.
The PS3 is not infallable. Im sorry.
occasionally, when i switch up my games, i'll have to do it a few times because the disc icon doesn't show up. I clean my ps3 reguarly. I got a laser lens cleaner and I use a low powered vac to get those dust particles out. That and i wipe it down regularly. But this latest thing sort of worries me....
I mean I've had to send my ps3 back earlier this year because of that 1.54 update. Same mess.... blu-ray movies nor games would play!! Please Sony fix this because I don't wanna send my ps3 back... again!!
Some of the posts on the Sony forums say thier PS3s actually had hardware failure after the update. Others say they don't read discs anymore. Who knows if they're believable or not, but there seems to be quite a few. It only seems to affect 60gb models, but many people with 60gb models say they're fine.
I'm not updating. Not for new icons or playlists (and probably more security.) Yeah, the chance of hardware failure on a system I probably can't get fixed for free would suck too.
Maybe. I guess I'm one of the lucky 60 GB owners who don't have any problems.
I still think many of the problems are because of incorrect settings or something which the 2.0 update does not happen to tolerate as well. I could be wrong, though. I don't know enough about this issue.
No problems so far. Also why don't you update? You don't like the free content off the Playstation Network? Personally I look forward to it.
After the update I noticed that the camera would stay on and wont turn off even if I unplug it & plug it back in, I did noticed though I remote play connect my PSP to it and after using it turned off the PS3 with it then the Playstation Eye turned off, so is there anyone else having the same problems?
if you have remote start enabled USB is still powered even if you turn off the system.
disabled the info bar...fixed all the issues
(i have a 20 gb launch model)
i have the 80 gig model, it always freezes when i try to play music, games or even pictures, when i disabled the bar i had no more problems. everything is ok now
Most of the problems I am having has to do with media. For one, an audio cd i tried playing does not even show up when I put it in (though others I have tried do). Also now my dlna streaming does not work usually. I use Tversity to stream. when it does work, I can only stream songs since when i try streaming movies it cuts off after several minutes(I have cleared cache on tversity and never had this problem before 2.0).
The fw have no problem is the Information board on the PS3 that have a problem if up disable the Information board you be fine. Just go to the Network icon
and drop down to the "Information Board" icon and click on the triangle button and you see two option just click the one that say "Do Not Display" and your bug or issues will go alway.
I had some of the problems listed here when I updated. My system locked up and then shutdown. When I turned it back on it would freeze for a couple of seconds while opening menu items in the settings portion, but after the initial delay, my system works just fine.
I think we just get impatient sometimes. I bet that people getting hardware errors are hard reseting their console while the HDD light is on during a "freeze" like I had. If that's the case, then it's not Sony's but the ID10T's fault.
You run the same risk with a PC manually shutting it down rather than waiting. I'm speaking from experience on that one.
As for the HDTV issues, I have a TV that only goes to 1080i and I've never had any issue when using a decent quality HDMI cable. I would look at the quality of equipment you bought if your TV is wiggin' out.
oh yeah, check out Tversity's web site for an update that works with 2.0.
I have the same issues as this poster. Mine freezes up/locks up in the settings on occasion now, since the 2.0 update. Also, it has caused some odd lockings in Warhawk, which has always been very smooth and fluid for me.
I hope its something to be patched in the next update, but I can deal with it!
iv had no problems at all. well at 1st i had a few slowdowns when the ps info thing would load, but now its not making me lag...
no problems here and iv played about +30 hours doing diffrent things with no problems at all. i guess im lucky.. =)
And PS3 owners laughed when the 360 users had firmware update problems. Welcome to our word! I'm sure it'll get fixed, it's just the nature of beast. The more complicated the firmware gets, the harder it is to roll it out to an ever growing install base without problems.
First of all, let me start by saying that all of you have let this escalate out of control into a 360/PS3 bashing. The problem isn't the users. It's called variables in hardware difference. The same problem that computer users experience. Sony creates a firmware that runs on a specific set of hardware variables based on the different PS3 units they produced. You take that into account now. Also, user wear and tear. This, for example, would be how many hours you have logged, the amount of moisture in the room, dust, tempurature and whatnot. The last and most important variable would be external hardware interaction. This would be those users who have lots of demos, music or linux, plus it also applies to the type of ISP they have and DNS resolving speed for those complaining about PSN.
As you can see, there is no specific target. It's all factors that we have to live with. Sony does it's best to create a firmware to fix problems that have arisen based on all these factors plus they try to add new things based on request from the owners. So basically, lay off and let Sony fix what it can.
I've noted occasional XMB pauses, but when that is happening I notice that the info bar is checking for updates (it shows a rotating star/splat) during this time. Minor *****le though.
One major problem that I've noted is when trying to view videos through RemotePlay. When ever I try this the display on the PSP just goes black, no video, and the only button that seems to do anything is the home button (PSP derived menu). I have the PS3 video settings for all 1080i and below (my TV handles all except 1080p). And I've had this video problem both logged in through the internet and directly to my PS3's wi-fi. Unfortunately, I don't remember if this happened before 2.0 or after.
I just sent my ps3 back because the blu ray player stopped reading my BR disc AGAIN!!!!!
Gonna be down and out for about a week or two! I have a 60gb and this is the second time that my blu-ray has stopped working wtf!!??
Don't need anyone of you to believe me when i say that the ps3 (be it still my top choice gaming console), still has these stoopid little quirks that kill me and if you have not experienced what some of us is going thru then shut up ya face!
