PlayStation 3 firmware version 2.35 is out - Image 1

The folks at the official US Sony PlayStation blog announced that a new firmware update for the PlayStation 3 would be coming out. And true enough, not long after a short wrestling match with the PlayStation 3 and an unyielding Ethernet cable, we've spotted it tapping our shoulders and inviting us to upgrade.

Sony says that the new firmware is to address performance in unnamed PS3 games, although an air of speculation has been pointing to Grand Theft Auto IV (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360) stalling issues.

The gaming giant stood firm that the fix has nothing to do with Grand Theft Auto 4, however.

Whatever the case, we'll be on a lookout for more clues to this minor five step jump from the previous firmware revision. 'Till then, time to upgrade, dear readers!

Thanks for the tip, Luis!

» Ok now the excitement is over

The reason my first post seemed so immature was because I was really excited to be able to be the first to post about something that really matters to me. I struggled to find my user name and password. The whole while I was freaking out! I needed to be the first to post for something as important as a firmware update. Because I was never the first to post on an important topic. It really is an exillerating experience! You guys should try it sometime.....Oh, wait.....YOU CANT!!!! n00bz....lol....Im kidding obviously. Don't y'all get yers panties in a bunch by!!!

dmanv2, you are a moron. Calm down. This was a (relatively) pointless update, nobody cares. I think you should consult a physician; you shouldn't be getting an erection over a first post.

NOT in-game-XMB, but in-game chatting.

point in in-game xmb is to communicate. If its voice chat then I'll be happy as hell. Text chat would be ok but I'd rather talk. If everything goes good then I think we'll see it in july because of E3.

» screw in game xmb i still wanna play gta 4

i have waited this long for this steaming pile of shi#
i expected a fix for the game i prepurchased weeks in advance for it to sit on my shelf and collect dust without any play at all. im, totally pissed and i wish i could take my anger out on some of those whom have frustrated me so much
my ps3 is a original launch model with echip and freezez randomly in gta4 ussually within 5 mins of starting thought since everyone was talking about a new firmware to fix gta this may be it.
seeing that it isnt is such a fing punch to the face im sick of waiting for a fix on this game big time enjoy all of those people who it works for but understand some people have serious issues from this 1 game and there is not ***** being done to fix it in a timely mannor

   Re: Eclipze_ - 2008-05-15
 » well

doesn't that tell you something if its freezing only from this one game? That means that you need to sit and wait till R* does somthing about it, not Sony. Its obvious R* did something wrong if its only happening with this one game. So don't get mad at the wrong people. I know if I was part of the team that does the fixes I wouldn't want to fix someone elses mistake, R* need to fix it themselves because their getting YOUR money for it.

 » did you try....

to reinstall the game? I had nasty freezing untill I did and since then it's ran flawless. If you don't know how the file you need to delete is in your Game Data folder. Hope this helps.

   Re: Valaria79 - 2008-05-16
 » did you try...

Yes we have reinstalled the game 15 times now. Every player fix that has been posted on forums we have tried. like deleting then reinstall, disabling internet and media servers, turning off many functions ingame.. several others too. None of which worked. We have been to Rockstar for support with the freezing issue and emailed them.. No responce. Cant return the game to the store as they have a 7 day return policy or believe me we would have taken it back.. what good is a game that you cant play. Both Rockstar and Sony said they are working on fixes... I believe Morlander read that Sony was releasing a fix for the freezing issue with Firmware update... now we get to wait till July.. yippie.
The freezing issue is not with Rockstar's game its with the CONSOLE itself. Only a few consoles have major freezing problems. The launch 60 gig version being one of the top. Only thing I can think is they did not test it on ALL versions of the PS3.
So till july update.. I guess it collects more dust and I get to go find another game to play.. but I think this time I wont buy.. Off to the store to rent something worth playing.

 » Hmm

I have no idea why you are having so much trouble with Grand theft Auto IV. I haven't had a single problem with that game since I purchased it openning day.

   Re: Eclipze_ - 2008-05-16
 » Re: Valaria79

How can it be the consoles? I can tell you that something inside GTA IV is causing the ps3 to freeze. Just like Assassin's creed would always freeze.

Its obvious its the game because I can play resistance FOM on my 60GB PS3 and not freeze at all, yet I bet I pop in assassin's or GTA it'll freeze. If it was the consoles I'd be freezing all the time, but it only happens when you put that game in your system.

   Re: Valaria79 - 2008-05-18
 » eclipze

I think its the console itself due to the fact Morlander and I read somewhere that the 60 gig launch version of the ps3 we have also has the emotion chip and that is what causes a conflict with GTA4.. Which Requires a firmware update to fix it.
I played Assassin's Creed as well.. But that game did not freeze near as much as GTA4 does. I think out of the time I played AC it may have froze a whole 5 times. GTA4 I cant play for more than 5 mins with out a freeze that locks the whole machine up.
