PlayStation 3 Australia - Image 1Sony announced in the recent eGames & Entertainment Expo that the PlayStation 3 has already surpassed the 100,000 mark in Australia.

It was mentioned that this console reached this milestone faster than the PlayStation 2 did. Some have hypothesized that this was reached quickly because of the price drop and the launch of the 40GB PlayStation 3.

If you can recall Konami's statement regarding next-gen consoles, it was mentioned that each one will be appealing to a certain demographic and the competition will not be on a worldwide basis but more regional. If this holds true, Sony may be well on their way of establish a pretty good foot hold in Australia.

This is definitely good news for Sony. Still, it may be a bit premature to say that Sony will be the market leader in Australia. We'll have to wait for future developments to see if Sony is indeed going to dominate the market in that region.
