Ó

PS3OK, so I can understand that nobody likes those 'PS3 Delayed' articles. Well, according to The Inquirer's assumptions, the PS3 is still far from complete. The official release date is November 2006. So that leaves about 6 months till D-Day.

As is the case generally with all major software/hardware release, the last 6-8 months are generally spent in debugging and cleaning up the code. Plus, the developer kits are generally well within the grasp of the game-developers. But that's not the case with the PS3.

Few people have seen it in action, and even fewer have actually had a hands-on experience with it. There's basically 2 problems which are plaguing the release of the PS3.

  • Size : Yes, all the ultra shiny hardware is actually too damn big to fit in the box which they've been showing us all this time. The problem can be solved by using smaller components. But if you're not sure what components are going in the console 6 months before release, then you have some serious problems in your hand.
  • Few components not finalised : Sony is still bidding on some components. Sounds ridiculous, I know. The final hardware should've been finalised a long time ago, so that the developers know what they're working with.
Although Sony might make it by November 2006, it's doubtful if all of the rough edges will be polished. There might be patches for it, like the Xbox 360, as soon as it is released. Let's just hope that the PS3 stays on track and is actually launched on the promised date.

This will suck. This kind of makes me consider not getting the PS3 on release date anymore... as fun as waiting in line all night at the mall's gamestop with your friends is.. i don't want a crappy system.

I'd truly rather wait for even LONGER for the ps3 to come out rather than see a bunch of happy little campers come home with their brand new ps3 and find out the next day about how it has all these bugs and such because of sony doing all these things such last minute.

I expected better from you guys, sony. Get working so you can fix things up, and if you can't, then just wait longer. I'm sure you'll have more/happier customers that way. Because I totally know that the president of sony read this comment... =(

wow funny how things turn out, now come E3 and they might show and tell everything but at the same time announce that the system is once again delayed till next year. and with this type of news whether true or not makes me not want to go out there and pick up a ps3 on day 1, because it will be buggy. this is the reason why i wanted sony to release first in japan so they can get the faulty systems. oh well sucks if this is true, and if you say you not upset well you lying to your self, but this is no way going to make me go out and get a 360 i rather have a bugged down ps3 than that *****.

 » The Inquirer sucks.

Rule #1: never ever trust The Inquirer; they are wrong as often as they are right.
And they are as likely as not to post an internet rumor as "news".

The Xbox 360 had no hardware available 6 months before launch. There was no Xbox 360 hardware available at E3 '05 proir to the 360 launch (only 2 Mac G5's). So the BS tripe "We are about six months from launch, and debugging should be done, prototypes and dev kits should flow like water, and all the tame magazines should already have one." is, well, just BS tripe.

» Ive heard no reputable site mention this

No comments on IGN or Gamespot about a subject this big makes me bry BS. I doubt it heavily. Come E3 we will know anyway.

Seriously, as said, the Xbox360 started showing up in final form about 3 months before release. There have been non-final development kits around for a year already, and the final devkit, which means the final hardware, is announced for june, as you could see in the GDC press conference, which I wouldn't be surprised the Inquirer hasn't even looked at. That gives developers 6 months to finetune their projects for the final hardware, which is decent enough, considering how far along in their projects some teams already are. Besides, the PS3 is much easier to develop for than many people (and developers?) realise. But I think the lower budget devs just don't have the cash to invest time in development pre-final devkit , and these are the ones you hear *****ing the most, whereas for instance the Epic guys have their devkit in a very advanced, near-final stage already even before the final devkit is released.

Really, this kind of news ... just isn't. Let's just take a deep breath and stick to official stuff until well after E3, shall we? There will be plenty of news to go round for quite a while ...

Trust if, if the release is anything loike the psp's, where six months before the launch they couldn't cram the hardware into the system, then they don't need a lot of time to get things ready. different divisions work on there part to get the system done. If they need more space they can always alter the design a little bit to add more space. NOt a big deal to delay the system. Plus fro the guy above, he is right developers got 6 months to change the code for there project. Nothing seriously wrong here. NOw if someone found out that the cell and graphics card are incompatible for some reason, I would think we are looking at a serious delay.

 »  How dare you...

how dare you say "D-Day" for something NOT WW2 related...

   by Jake - 2006-04-13

Because its a commonly used phrase, even when not referring to WWII?

You might as well say "How dare you say 'Ground Zero' for something NOT 9/11 related."

Sheesh... sometimes I think people should have to pass a test before being able to post on the internet.

I'll be so pised off if the ps3 is delayed again. I'll actually conider getting an xbox 360. Those deadbeets to bring the ps3 to E3 2005 and then delay the launch by 2 frickin' years! WTF Sony?
