Home Beta version 0.8.3 - Image 1There was a lot of speculation about Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation Home when it was first announced. Now, it looks like the company's original plan for this service is slowly taking shape.

The developers behind this project have updated the application, adding in quite a number of features including a marketplace and a brand new interface.

The Marketplace, which looks like it was patterned after a mall, offers users various articles of clothing for their avatars. Those who want to customize their in-game houses will also be able to pick up some furniture for free. There is still one store that has yet to be opened which might be allocated for some paid content.

One of the features that users have been looking forward to is music and video streaming. It doesn't seem to be in this build yet but it might be coming soon considering a new "Appliances" tab complete with a picture of a TV has been added already.

The Home Square is basically the same as the last build, with the only change being the access to the Marketplace. The theater and game rooms still have nothing new so don't be disappointed if you decide to drop by for a look.

Like most new builds, expect quite a number of bugs in the latest version of Home. Reports have come in that the game crashes quite a bit. Others have found that connection drops are also pretty common. Finally, there are some weird glitches like couches flying through walls, to the main menu being absolutely unrecognizable.

Bugs notwithstanding, it looks like Sony has pulled off a pretty good job with this version of Home. This project is showing a lot of promise and we can't wait to see a more polished version of this. If you want to see it for yourself, you might want to take some time to go over these screenshots of Home in action as well as a video of the glitches.
