PS3Good news for Sony fanboys and girls: production of the PlayStation 3 has begun! Apparently, Asustek Computers, considered one of the biggest computer components producer, has already shipped PS3 consoles to Sony. If this is true, it can only mean one thing: the November launch is pushing through (Yey!).

With the 200,000 component sets shipped to Asus in June, a small volume has already been assembled and shipped back to Sony early this month. The number of consoles to be built by Asus is said to increase as the launch date approaches, with September and October marking a shipment to Asus of more than one million component sets.

There have been no reports regarding Foxconn Electronics, which was also reported to help build Sony's next-generation console, receiving any PS3 component parts. Chinese newspaper Apple Daily writes that Foxconn will start assembly operations when demand rises.

I don't really give a sh*t when they start production, the only thing that matters is that I can be able to get one at launch

Cool, looks like launch shouldn't be a problem after all. 65nm wasn't planned until 2007. Doesn't really matter since Cell runs relatively cool anyway (very power efficient), but yeah, it would save production costs. Microsoft can't wait to move to 65nm either since it would increase their CPU yields as well. Can't wait for November! =)

So what if its not 65nm, the heat you wont notice unless youve got your temp probes out and are measuring, oh wait, 360 fanboys I forgot ;)

Im sure there are some geeks out there though that will buy a new PS3 each time they change the processor die.

"Sony fanboys dont care

So...sony fanboys are the only ones who are not a teenager?

sure.

all those fanboys "care" why do you think they flame so much?

Sony makes a mistake. Ninty and M$ fanboys start laughing and sony fanboys begin to cry and scream about it.

If any fanboy is "blind" I'd say sony fanboys are...

hell even sony agrees with me...thinking a million consoles would be bought by their loyal blind fanboys without any games.

Don't worry about me being a fanboy...i'm getting a ps3, along with a 360, and wii.

more games then the 360 had.

I like how if someone is just happy about news about the PS3 they're automatically called a fanboy even though the flamer doesn't know what systems they own or plan to buy.

sony said that they could sell 5 million ps3 even if they had no games. it was a comment about how loyal and big their fanbase is.

   by Figboy (Unregistered) - 2006-07-19
 » *sigh*

people have been jumping down Sony's throat about that "we could sell 5 million PS3's without any games" comment, and i've reached my breaking point.

look at it this way: the PS1 and PS2 have sold 100 million units *each*. that's a gigantic consumer base. now, for the PS2, it also doubled as a DVD player. at the time, there were people that bought a PS2 *JUST FOR IT'S DVD PLAYING CAPABILITIES*. i know that's hard for us gamers to fathom, but not everyone that bought a PS2 bought it for the primary purpose of playing games (i bought it as a games machine, but i watch movies on it also, since my DVD player broke). out of a 100 million person installed userbase, i think Sony felt it was safe to say that 5 million of those people would buy a PS3 even if it didn't have games, because those 5 million people would be movie enthusiasts, and not games enthusiasts. sheesh. is that so hard to believe?

here's another example: GTA: San Andreas sold around 10 million copies. so did Final Fantasy X, and Metal Gear Solid and God of War have high sales numbers also (lets guess a five million each). now here's the kicker: the group of people that love GTA are *NOT* the same group of people that love Final Fantasy, and are not the same group of people that love Metal Gear Solid and God of War. that's the type of thing that a 100 million installed user base will get you: diversity. adding up those 4 titles, we get 30 million people (remember, those numbers aren't 100% accurate, but they're pretty close), what about the other 70 million PS2 owners? they do other things with their PS2's as well as playing games. now, if Sony had said that 40 million people would buy a PS3 if it had no games, that'd be the epitomy of arrogance. 5 million is not an outlandish number (but i guess for the 25 million people that bought Gamecubes and X Boxes, 5 million out of 25 mill would seem rather large, and therefore, unrealistic. after all, that's a sizeable number of their audience. ooh burn!)

that is all.

 » good news indeed.

Sony will catch up to the current competitor within their first year of release for sure.
The competition will bring us some of the best game each console has to offer. I love it.

27: i can't wait. i love the competition for the same reasons. MS is going to be forced to up it's game, which in turn will force Sony to up it's game, and so on and so forth, and us gamers will be the real winners.

28: lol. indeed, the truth does hurt. all the naysayers will be eating a lot of their feet come November 2006. and by the time 2007 is through, they'll be missing an entire limb.

29: Thanks! i just try to present my opinion based off of what i believe is fact, and i try to keep my personal preference out of it (i'm a big Playstation fan). the facts are, the PS1 and PS2 kicked a whole lotta ass, and it's hard to think that suddenly their brand will lose it's appeal because of it's price. if anything, the consumers that know their stuff will see what a value the PS3 is, and at $500/$600, it must be worth *something*. not many people will blindly shell out that kind of dough without first looking into what they're spending it on.

i see a lot more positives than negatives when i look at the PS3, and i view it as a safe investment for me. after all, the PS1 and PS2 didn't let me down, so i'm expecting the PS3 to do the same. even if it does half as well as it's competitors, that's still 50 million units sold. 25 million units more than what it's competitors did last gen. the battle is going to be a very interesting one. since i plan on owning all 3 at some point, i'm going to be one happy gamer.
