Grand Theft Auto 4 - Image 1We hate to be the harbinger of bad news, but we thought you guys would find this particular report useful. Better watch out for the PS3 version of Rockstar North's Grand Theft Auto 4 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360).

A few owners of the recently launched game have been experiencing freezing errors, particularly their copies of GTA 4 for the 60GB (both launch and non-launch) and the 20 GB launch. The game instantly stops at a dead halt right after the first cut scene.

What people have noticed is that both the Collectors Edition and the 60 GB launch versions are seriously affected by this. This is certainly a disaster, mind you. Being one of the most anticipated titles for this year, having this kind of thing happen is no laughing matter.

Seriously. What is up with the game? People have been waiting since forever for its release. Now that it is out, this happens. If you guys find a solution to this problem, feel free to add your comments below. We'll keep you guys updated with the developments circulating this disastrous situation.

Update: Apparently, this issue isn't only happening to the PS3 version of GTA 4 but also to some Xbox 360 gamers playing Rockstar's game. Check out our latest post about Rockstar reportedly looking into the GTA 4 freeze issue.

First comment,

Anyways, this isn't good. I'm glad I didn't buy this on release.

Sucks for all of you that did!

 » hmm

just bought it. nothing wrong with it. its true that it has been reported, but i dont see many are affected. at least from what ive heard

» Responding To RommelTJ's Loser Talk

You must be a little jealous kid coming on here to comment like that. I have played this game over six hours today with no freezing issues. I think you know that what really sucks is that you don't have the most raved about game of the year and it's probably because your a kid that needs an adult to buy it for you or you don't have the money. If you want people to think your smart, then be smart.

 » LOL

I'm actually 20 years old.

It's funny, because YOU are calling ME a loser when you just spent, and I quote, "over six hours today" playing a videogame(not that there is anything wrong with being a loser or a nerd).

Don't get me wrong, this is a good game. But I'm not an idiot and I didn't fall for the hype. I'll get this game when all the issues are fixed and when it's Greatest Hits and marked 20% off.

» MICROSOFT doesnt care about their customers

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/buyNow/g/grandtheftautoiv/default.htm

if you notice, anyone who preordered should have gotten free gamer pics "automatically". yet none of the retailers listed, list anything about this promotion on their "pre-order" pages.

microsoft told me "call your retailer" after i stated "none of the links even mention this promotion" i was placed on hold and then told "this is rockstar's promotion, not ours, its just on our website.... call them" after i stated how ridiculous it was that they are falsly advertising a promotion and refusing to support it, i was hung up on by xbox cust. svc.

   Re: i3obtl - 2008-04-29
 » Microsoft Does Care

Microsoft only cares if it sees money in it for them. You've all seen the Simpsons with Bill Gates, right? Well, that' s how it is.

Re: Mister Common Sense - 2008-04-30
 » so?

Who cares about gamer pics?

   Re: theaceoffire - 2008-04-30
 » well

They care because I think MS charges for gamer images...
Sucks for the 360. The idea of *buying* wallpapers and such seem odd.

That's right, and they want you to pay to play Multiplayer online too.

I've played last night for about 3 hours. No freezing, and nothing happened to mine. Would it matter what firmware people are using?

There's a typo on the back of the case! "Number of Players: 1-2 (offline MULTplayer)." They're missing an 'I'!

I just bought mine the first thing this morning. I have a 60gb Playstation 3 that I bought on Christmas two years ago, I have yet to have any problems with the game. The openning cutscene was seemless. I'm thinking some people just haven't updated their firmware as my 60gb has worked perfectly.

 » Heres the real story

http://www.gamecollision.com/news/grand-theft-auto-4-freezing-issues-ps3360

QJ is reporting falsely on this story..this problem is not exclusive to the PS3.

   Re: vcxv - 2008-04-29
 » falsely?

i dont think so. the subject says playstation forums: bla bla. meaning its taken from playstation forum. but of course if they add something about freezing which also occur on 360, they can avoid any misleading information

"Better watch out for the PS3 version of Rockstar North's Grand Theft Auto 4"
This Directly implies that the PS3 version is the only version with the freezing issues..falsely..misleading..whatever you want to call it..its still BS.

   Re: NarooN - 2008-04-29
 » well..

Considering the fact that this is the PS3 PAGE of QJ.net, maybe QJ didn't know about the 360 version having the problem, and they didn't NEED to mention the 360 version anyway.

I love how everyone criticizes QJ, yet you all still come here. If you like to talk crap about them so much, stfud and gtfo. I'm saying that to everyone btw.

"I had this same problem so I called Rockstar. The lady on the phone told me to erase the game data (the original install and the game saves) and then start over. I did what she told me to do and the freezing problem went away."

Gotta love people that actually use support instead of *****ing on forums.

 » Can't get online...

Slight off topic, but I've been trying to get the PS3 version online and it keeps on losing connection as soon as I connect. I'm connecting through a router (so NAT Type 2) but there's nothing in the manual about port forwarding, which I did for burnout paradise. Can anyone shed some light on why this is happening? Cheers

Tried it out on both 60 GB and 40 GB. works flawlessly on both. Never had a bug o something. Whether this complete nonsense or somebody was extremely unlucky.

I have been playing this since 12.30am
Not one problem at all. ps3 60gig
I think if this was true, we would have heard alot more
about it. Especially after just about everyware sold out instantly.
Asda had police patroling the isles in Wakefield uk store.
115 copies sold in half an hour. 50 copies on ps3 and 65 on xbox.

 » FRFREEZING

yh I had one freeze right at the begin after the install, but after like 2 seconds it resumed. Haven't had any problems after this. Game runs perfectly fine. Been playing for like 8 hours now, non stop.

If you experience just try switching of you PS3 for a bit let it cool down. Don't know if it helps but worth a try.

Hola

 » froze two times

well my game froze two times, on-line though. i had to reset the whole system. wintermute--- i was playing this morning and all was well but now i have the same problem as you. i have no idea??? could it be the servers??? this is also off topic, but did any one notice when they first played the game that you could see the out line of eveything buildings, character, etc???? after playing it for 3 hours it then seemed all smooth. is it just me or did anyone else notice this????

60gb launch console. Froze when on the phone with Melissa and setting up our date. This sucks!

   Re: bulbous_shot - 2008-04-29
 » same here

I have a 60gb too. I can play the game fine without it freezing, so long as I don't start a date, go to the cabaret show with Roman, or pause the game. Multiplayer isn't working for me either, and I don't think it's anything on my end that is causing it to not work.

 » Problems

I have this problem and it is real. (PAL 60Gb Launch Console)

Cannot watch any motion video without it freezing.

Skip the movies and you can play the game for 30 secs through to 10 minutes and then freeze.

Not even the PS button works, hard switch off to reset.

PS has never overheated and all other games play fine, even Folding@Home which uses lots of power and produces lots of heat runs perfectly.

Seems to be a major bug!

well I have an eu launch console ( 60gb ) and I've never
had any problems at all... been playing for like 12 hours
straight.. whenever I think or speak I do so with
a russian accent ( unintensional ) I've just played this
game for too long man.. great game =)

 » Euro-problem

Looking at these comments it seems like the PAL version is the only one really afflicted by this bug. Maybe QJ.net should update their article to reflect this.

I've got a 60...bought it at launch.

So far so good.

   by Morlander - 2008-04-30
 » 60 gb launch ps3

freezes often enough not to play it at first it froze changing game settings on 1st play
then it froze after restarting during the 2nd in game movie
and it also freeze's during gameplay
seems random and other than that you dont have to hardboot the ps3 eject the disk it will reboot itself.
i have uninstalled and reinstalled 6 times dont think its helping at all and i have the newest firmware.
as said above this is a real bug and for some of us its very game breaking owning this disk and not being able to play it is really annoying im considering returning it at this point

   by wintermute - 2008-05-01
 » All well and good...

but why the hell haven't rockstar* made an official comment on this yet? Thankfully this freezing issue hasn't affected me (although I have a new 40GB PS3, so perhaps that's why) but i'm (like everyone) having major difficultly playing online and i'm dissapointed that we've heard NOTHING from rockstar* on the issue. You know, a nice "we're working on the servers now" or "we're looking into it" would suffice, but they've just remained mute, not a good show after all the publicity and effort that has gone into the game pre-launch and now, when problems arise, they have nothing to say?

Sort it our rockstar*, that's all I have to say.
