Playstation forums: problems streaming mpeg-4 video after 2.20 update - Image 1 Roughly about a week ago, Sony released the Firmware 2.20 update. Instead of it updating the system with improved changes and fixes, apparently, it's causing problems when streaming mpeg-4 files.

Over at the official PlayStation forums, those who are afflicted with this problem have already begun airing out their concerns. They noticed that after they updated their consoles, streaming mpeg-4 files wasn't that good. The videos were stuttering to the point that the videos were completely unplayable.

Aside from this, some even posted additional problems that they were experiencing. Streaming mpeg-2 files at 10x, 30x, and 120x speeds run only at a tenth of the designated speeds. Also, users have found out that skipping over unwanted content has become something that was very difficult to do.

Connection issues and media server issues have been ruled out. DivX/XviD files that have a higher bit work just fine. Media servers such as Tversity, Twonky Media and Nero Home Media have all been tested clean.

So what's seriously going on with the Firmware? Well, we'll just have to wait and see until Sony releases something official to immediately resolve this issue. Check up on QJ.NET regularly for updates on this matter.

They'll fix it..

If something drastic happens, like people's discs stop reading, people might start to be concerned.

Nobody cares about media streaming honestly. It wont stop you from enjoying your PS3 for one second.

"Oh my god! My MP4s arent streaming!! What am I going to do?!!!!!!....... Oh yeah.. I'll use my PC"

 » hmm...

I have a 60GB too, and streaming works fine with TVersity or Nero, but...

Whenever I pause something for a few minutes if I have to go do something; when I come back and try to start playing it again, it will say content is unplayable, and I have to start playback over from the very beginning.

 » same.

I noticed the same thing the other day. Pretty annoying.

 » that last major problem...

took them 3-4 months to figure out.

Fixing one issue broke the other. My MP4s don't even play; they come up as corrupted data.

The only problem with me is that when I put the file on my PC I can't play it in anything (it says the file is damaged or somthing). I was gunna make a youtube video for Portal +[.

A while back, a couple updates ago, I noticed that certain functions were a little glitchy. One was the web browser did not allow some functions on sites that previously worked. The last update fixed some of those again.

 » yeah that's not fun

I converted my divx videos to play them on my ps3 using the virtual server of wmp11 but now they are not playing at all (most of them). Still, it doesn't bother me much since now I play my divx movies directly. :D

The only problems I've seen with 2.20 is slower friends list loading, and when I tried to stream a file with the Internet Browser (I went to www.theleetworld.com) it was horribly slow, couldn't even get past the usual introduction. The only way for me to even exit the stream was to shut my system off completely.

2.21 or something is needed.

 » yeah...

I neves had problems with my PS3 only with the 2.0 when my ps3 always froze but just quit the information board in that time and all set but my friendlist now take like a minute to load
