Why do i have to share a country with these people....
Since our dollar is high, now is best time to buy one. Here is the link to import it:
http://www.play-asia.com/SOap- 23-83-7rqf-71-bh-49-en-15-gps- 84-j-70-1mij.html
I might pick one of those up. I'm going to Ireland to study medicine next month and think if finally need a GPS.
ugg.. idiots
i live in quebec but i am english
these people dont realize that all they are doing is hurting the provinces economy
it will not be worth it for them to have games translated and we will get screwed out of good games
grrrrrr i hate french quebecers
Most of the language issue is under federal juridiction, but I believe this part fall under provincial juridiction.
Basically, if you want to sell something in Québec, it has to be in french, and whatever other language you wish. So all the other provinces will still get games straight from U.S since they won't have the same regulation, while Quebec will only get multilingual ones. (But trust me, there will be lot's of crossborder shopping for the ones that aren't, and Ebay will be more popular than ever)
Jim i'm a Quebecer and i think your also an idiot
Canada has a really small population overall. Now a tiny portion of this population wants special treatment. Come on people English is also the official language of Canada and the most spoken anyway. Get over it.
you know me too...i also hate them goddam frenchie's always complainin' bout' english!
i live in laval
Oh god, I'm a proud french frog, but I find this idiotic a bit. It's that 101 law that says everything should be in french. In movies and videogames, if a French version is available in the world, it has to be available here as well. They used to accept to have the booklets and box in French without needing the game to be in french... so I don't know if it is still ok to do so.
Now it seems that we will have to wait if that passes throught to get translated. Anyway, I'll just buy my games from the Internet then.
I actually learned english playing videogames as I was young, my mother used to translate games like Zelda for me and my brother.
I'm french too and learned the english with videogaming. Still, I think that it's just a rumor since I never saw any annoucement for this. I mean, the games still need a french booklet, but it's nothing. And if they'll only accept french games I suppose I'll use my credit card online... grrr, I really hate those stupid laws... I mean, Quebec host more video game players than the rest of the Canada with only 1/3 of the population, we should be able to play in darn english if we want to!!!!
ps: I hate translated games in french! I only like english for games (but for Prince of persia games since it's the 1st language (french)).
...21st Century. Get with the times. English should be universal in all games and junk.
lol!! this is so funny. poor dudes.
French Canadians have to piss and moan, they do realize that in doing this it's going to push back release dates for us all, but Quebec as always only cares about what Quebec wants and not whats good/bad for the whole country (Even for something as small as this) Funny that they expect English speaking Canada to know French but are not nice enough to give the reach around.
you'd be surprised how the opposite is also true ;)
God damn that is annoying.
I can understand the sentiment, but hell. I don't want to wait months upon months to get a game that is available everywhere else in the country for them to dub it.
I'd hope that game designers could implement french sub-titles as a solution, instead, as they would take much less time to do.
Actually they can Sub in French without any problems...but it still takes time to do.
The game only need to be translated, you could actually give a transcript in french of the game and that would be ok.
The funny thing is that even Montreal Game Studios does not develop all their games in French...
You would have to suffer our god damn pride and principles if you kicked us out of Canada. I would say I hate french canadian cuz I would hate myself, lol. But again, it shows that liberty of ones start where others finishes.
It's the same thing as banning games because they have a reference to the coran or has a church in it...Completely idiotic.
I'd say, if you want what you want, it's not the majority that should change, it is you. So if you want to have those games in French, make the European console available here.
the release time for European games is usually significantly longer because of the translation issue. Instead of screwing us, why not just import from Europe?
European games take longer for many reasons, and any of them can delay a game for quite a while. One of the worst being that each countries have different rating, so before you sell a game, you have to get it rated in all of them.
With game like Heavenly Sword (multilingual), this will be the smallest problem!
I'm from Quebec and I speak french but I play all my game in english even the game from Ubisoft are better in english and I hope you will not hate all the quebecois just because of our government of *****.
This has been the standard for dozens of years now... don't let the fact that it's just now showing up in gaming surprise anyone, this is just the next venue to complain in. The problem with a bi-lingual society is that one side or the other will always find a sence of entitlement, that they rate higher than the other side, which is why dual language's don't work. Look at the poor guy in Florida, who is loosing his business property (lease) because he is English Speaking, and the property owner wants to build a spanish only strip.... until we all stop trying to be individuals, and start acting like we are human beings (before we are english, french, gay, republican, whatever) we will always incite contest between ourselves.
Amen
Same here in Belgium, 2 months after the elections and still no government because Frensh and Flemish speaking won't budge to each other.
Always has been and always will be.
Good for them.. just cut off their supply.
Why stop at games? Cut off their supply to movies, music, literature, food products, consumables, automotive equipment etc etc etc, which may contain anything written or spoken in english.
I think you may have been cut off from your supply of oxygen at birth.
I suppose either internet delivery or a road trip to Ontario will have to suffice for Quebecois gamers looking for games that are not released in NTSC French. PAL French is a different game. I wonder if the government realizes this...
Did anyone know that you don't have to be an American to start a game studio??? Why is it that the entire world hates America and wants nothing to do with it, except for our games and movies? Like the 80 million Koreans on StarCraft screaming about how stupid Americans are while they play an American game... hey, at least a bunch of fat, stupid Americans know how to code a game. :-)
I bet you could discontinue sales of the Xbox 360 and all American-made games in Asia, and very few would care.
But if Japan stopped exporting games and consoles? The industry everywhere would collapse under the weight of 30 million fat 10 year olds playing Halo 3.
tabarnak (*****)!!!
i listen to television in english i play in english...
did you ever hear robert de niro in french translation suck as hell
its not a very good idea!!!!
I live in quebec and i am french and i am happy about this news..... NOTTTTTTTTTTTT
I mean shishhhh i don't want my games 3 months after everybody because they need to translate it in french.....
I always play games in english..... but if they pass that law i just hope they won't delay the english version from comming in on time and people that want the french version just have to wait the extra 3 months....
that's all i have to say...... HELL TO THE GAMERS MOMMY !!!
i live in denmark, and never have i played a video game translated into danish. why do i not complain? because i have the brains to learn another language!!!
'tards.
It's just the latest for the Frenchtapo in this province. They think that the people are becoming less and less French. But, as a bilingual person living in Quebec, I can tell you the following:
The Quebecois are about as French as Mexicans are Spanish.
ya man!!
Frenchtapo lol
yeah why all the hate on americans?
i don't really see why canada NEEDS to be bilingual in its laws and stuff
how connected are those people to france anyways... they might as well move to france if they love it so much
or have everyone who don't give a damn and don't want to be segregated move into the rest of canada, we break quebec off from canada, send it up north of greenland to complain to the polar bears
it says that gamers are concerned what this would do to the release dates...
so the gamers didn't ask for this, who did?
Gerald Paquette is a power junkie
the chinese built the railroad that helped develop this country maybe games should be translated into chinese too
don't forget all the other languages, might as well do all of the other ones too cause canada's a "multicultural" country, don't want to make anyone feel left out
my ass, what a bunch of bs
Politicians need something to do (see: lawmaking) and barking up the French tree wins votes here.
In my experience, the only people who don't speak French in Montreal (which, as the worlds second largest French speaking city, really IS where all the power and influence in Quebec lies) aren't in tune enough with pop culture to play new video games anyway.
I don't like this either, but the Quebec people aren't interested in preserving the language because it's the language of France. They're about as loyal to France as we English Canadians are to Britain.
The whole province just seems paranoid that they are losing their own culture. Canada traded most of its British culture away and became more connected to America, and Quebec is for some reason terrified of that happening to them.
I bet the next law will be them splitting from Canada and building a big wall around their province.
whats the official language? english
whats the solution? learn english mother *****ers, welcome to north america.
You should go learn canadian history yu noob.Canadian is a bulingual country!!
Its always like this, where the majority has to listen to the minority because otherwise they are being "oppressive" and such. It's just some stupid bull*****. I mean come on... forcing games to be translated is stupid. I mean, how does it fix any problem? what will happen is game companies will look at this logically and decide that its not worth the money to bring their games to the area as quickly, so they will post-pone the games in that area for months, forcing everyone to import their games. Hey theres an idea, why don't the people that want games their games in french IMPORT them from france!
fine then no games for you.
Stupid Quebec, its always something. I wish they would have separated so that Canada could've assimilated them when their economy failed and we could be done with this Bi lingual BS.
Nice place to Visit, I just wish I wasn't subject to Quebec's "Time-Of-The-Month" so often....
Things like this really make me ashamed of living in this damn province. If they arent going at it about becoming their own damn country, they're going at it about the french.
Personnaly, if this crap actually affects release dates, i will seriously drive myself over to an EBGames in Ottawa to get my damn games!
it's nothing but a bunch of parents *****ing and trying to hold on to a hate for boring protestants that they've had to deal with for hundreds of years. quebec has a great culture and "joi de vivre" but that's an attitude, not a language. complaining that "my kids have to learn another language to play a video game" is the most backwards thing i've ever heard of in my life.
Wow... I'm astonished! What a hostility towards the french-speaking population of Canada many people show here...
In any case, not releasing games in french in Quebec is quite stupid if the game has been translated anyway for France. I don't see where the big issue for the game publishers is here.
first of i dont guess the officials realize how long it takes to translate a game. i mean look at the final fantasy series, they released crisis core for the psp quite a while ago over in japan. translations alone are going to take over a year, and thats just to english. from japaneese to french, i would suspect that might take about the same time if not longer. plus i havent read anywhere about a french translation.
all i have to say is good luck with that. you wild and crazy canadian you.
as a canadian I seen most publishers already have fench/english packeging/manuals but yes it doesnt mean they have the launguge in the games but I dont see why not insted of having 2 seperate versions just have a single copy that can do both (eg. sonic secret rings has a few diferent display languages)
also most games dont have that many vocals to it except if they use a music artist (eg ea tracks)
A report on Cyberpresse.ca reveals that government officials from
