PS3 - Xbox 360 - Final Fantasy XIII - Square Enix - Image 1

So the latest NPD results are out. Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg got a head start and already snuck in some stink bombs on the arena. Well, today, we get to hear more reactions on February's sales figures, this time from Sony, Nintendo, and (again) Microsoft. This via Gamespot.

First up, a representative from Nintendo:

During tough economic times, people tend to stay home, taking 'staycations.' They enjoy experiences that everyone in the family can do together. Wii and Nintendo DS continue to offer the best video game experiences at the most affordable prices. We are seeing significant consumer response to our value proposition.

There's also Sony's representative:

If you take a look at the video game category, it tends to be resilient to economic changes. I think we're seeing very similar resilience in our internal data as well.

Now while Sony and Nintendo seem to look at the NPD results under the same light (i.e. the effect of these economic times on their sales), Microsoft is taking a different route. Economics shmeconomics. A representative of Microsoft responds to the results with some fighting words instead:

We're happy with the performance of Street Fighter IV on Xbox 360. It follows in the steps of franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Madden NFL which have historically been associated with PlayStation, that are now selling better on our platform.

And that's not the end of it either. As Gamespot continues to elaborate (though no words from were quoted on this), the Microsoft rep added that they expect the Xbox 360 versions of Resident Evil 5 and Final Fantasy XIII to outsell those of their PS3 counterparts.

i haven't even read the articles because i'm THAT cool, looks like some gay final fantasy stuff. I heard that if you play final fantasy enough, you actually turn into one of the main characters, and you can speak fluent japanese.

Don't shoot in your pants though i probably just made it up.

i disagree with MS about ff13 selling more on 360 theory because, the majority of the audiance who likes RPG games are asians, and ff13 is exclusive to the ps3 in asia. but it can sell more on the 360, if there will not be a price cut for the ps3 in the near future.

 » *raises hand*

yeah, the 360 is flooded with FPS kiddies and whatnot (EVERY SINGLE ONE OF MY 360 friends are either semi/hardcore FPSers, or super duper trooper hardcore FPSers.

...anyways, i dont like the MS rep's tone, he sounds like a total jackass to me. he should go sit with the stupid broad whining about the animal abuse in CoD WoW

» Wow to MS and Sony representative...

To MS representative: Even a little kid could have told us that. Hell even a little kid could tell us that disc swapping is stupid(FFXIII).

To Sony representative: Yeah people are more resilient to not buy your console if you keep being resilient on dropping the damn price. (IDK if I'm using the word right)

To Wii rep:...When's the next Zelda game?

No way is FF13 selling better on 360, dream on MS rep.

Wii = rocks
PS3 = Best Blu-Ray Player Ever!
360 = ummm... its a nice toaster.

   Re: BIH - 2009-03-21
 » Erm no!

Wii + A console that almost gets no decent games.
PS3 + A good games console that's getting better (it was the best blu-ray player there are better ones out there now :) )
360 + Great console , great online too bad the people who are in charge of it are money hungry Cu*ts

   Re: jrsmaster411 - 2009-03-21
 » uhhhhh

its still the best blue ray player it's just no longer the cheapest, and the wii just sucks

Yeah like it's any different to Sony and Nintendo. MS is the opposing company against Nintendo and Sony. This is what a company is going to say and it's expected. It's not like MS is going to say "Yea we can't wait for titles like Tekken 6 and FF13 to release. While it's on our platform, it's still going to get more sales on PS3". Companies sticking and making "positive" comments on their own consoles. What's the world coming to.

 » Huh...

Is it just me, or does Microsoft like to point out the obvious and talk a lot, and I mean a lot, of crap?

There are far more 360's out there than PS3's--this is known. So yeah, it'll probably sell more on that console.

It's like Microsoft says things nowadays like, "Hey, the PS3 will NOT get the RRoD!" (Just some random statement) WELL OBVIOUSLY.

I used to think Sony talked a lot of random crap, but damn, Microsoft sure took that prize away.

   Re: Gamester101 - 2009-03-21
 » The

real thing to look at with software sales IMO is the ratio between number of consoles out there, and number of games sold. If 80% of PS3s have FFXIII and only 60% on 360, but the 360 sold more overall, which is more successful? I know what I think.

   Re: danielakadanny - 2009-03-21
 » its stupid..

of M$ 2 keep bragging constantly because most of the time they've already said the same thing over and over ect. i just wish they would brag about the KZ2 game killer or M$ is just trying 2 make a bluff because i don't think they can get there thats my opinion

   Re: ___ - 2009-03-21
 » You are correct.

Scyiik has a very good point . MS has twice the user base and has it's strongest user base in America. Yes it's true MS sold more GTA4 copies, but then again Sony almost sold as much with a fewer user base and had to compete with an Exclusive DLC ( that IMHO wasn't well implemented, and wasn't worth the 5+ month wait). Still though like TC said it's OBVIOUS MS!
These are American Representatives . Lets go over seas and ask in PS3's and Wii's territories . Point is FF13 is a PS3's exclusive (Japan Only) and they WILL SELL AND MAKE SALES FOR SONY.
Ms is full of it . I'm tired of seeing it everywhere I go Bk, theater, halo this, coke cans and even cereals (OK I get it MS you like money).
   by Allstaraugustine - 2009-03-21
 » hahahahahh

oh ok MS. That doesnt mean anything, its still the same game no matter what console you play it on. MS is implying that FF13 will play better on the 360? STFU MS. Nobody cares if you "Get more money". ITS STILL THE SAME GAME!

   by thefinalhero - 2009-03-21
 » @ Microsoft Rep

Well...seeings how Final Fantasy XII sold more than 1,764,000 copies its first week alone in Japan (Wikipedia,Final Fantasy XII) and XIII won't be a 360 release in Japan the odds are against you on that one. Especially when the rest of the world (outside of the U.S.) is split about 50/50 when it comes to 360/PS3 owners and the U.S. I would guesstimate around 70/30 360/PS3 owners. Also, assuming PS3 owners have actually been WAITING for this game while 360 owners probably assumed they wouldn't even be getting it, shows me that the majority of 360 owners probably won't even be interested in this. I know I bought my PS3 FOR the Final Fantasy series (and Level 5 RPGs...Dark Cloud 3 or Rogue Galaxy 2 please!). Also, I doubt people with multiple consoles are going to pass of the PS3 version for the 360 version...

i dont think anybody ever really associated Madden with just Playstation. And Street Fighter has been on like every freakin' console ever made.

 » ummm idk

isnt ff13 only coming out for ps3 in japan still? cuz if it is im sure ever single person who likes games there is buying it and guess what ps3 is there only choice thats at lest 4 mill in japan alone how in the hell does aaron greenberg figure that xbox will top ps3 sales of ff13.... come on man i know u work for the company an all but your started to sound silly now

   by narutosaiyan - 2009-03-22
 » LETS TALK VS 13

vs13 looks way better anyway lol, u dont see them bringing that up. bur yea MS is wrong, there is no way they are gonna outsell ps3 when it comes to FF. especially due to the fact that japan is getting ps3 only. oh n lets not forget that most 360 owners dont give a damn about rpgs. but u know 360 wont b getting any good games for a looong time (until 13 lol) n players will be starving for something good (on multiple discs)... maybe thats why MS is so confident lmao. oh well ill just have to enjoy both 13 and v13 while MS keeps blabbering about how "amazing" they are...there is a difference between winning n just talking about winning. the way i see it ms isnt winning but they cant keep their mouths shut, while sony is trying to bring its customers some real quality gaming.im just sad they rnt getting fully agknowledged 4 it

its coming out for ps3 then they are porting it to 360 and i thought i heard re5 sold more for ps3

   by gammy69er - 2009-03-23
 » HA!!!!

FF XIII will sell more on PS3, no doubt at all. Most of Japanese PS3 owners are waiting with baited breath for this one - as am i (although i will be too poor to buy straight away :( ) RE5 may just come along the same story - No Decent Horror genre games on the PS3 yet (that i've paid any attention to anywho, and F.E.A.R doesn't count, it's a FPS and they aren't the same as the RE or SH series, and SH Homecoming never made it to JP) Japanese guys (and Girls) eat that stuff up. Don't believe me? go to your video store and rent "The Ring" (or "The Grudge"), both japanese and american versions, and tell me which one is scarier - The Japanese love a good horror, and know how to do it right.

I think it just comes down to (in my personal opinion) that People whom buy 360's are into american style gaming, like FPS and Racing games, whereas People whom buy the PS3 are into more Niche markets - but in huge no's. Like Horror (mainly remanents of PS2 glory, holding out for the big one), 3rd Person Adventure (ok not so niche, but i'd guess true) and Driving Sims (not BS racey games).

Now i know PS3 has FPS and racey games, and i know that 360 has Horror and 3rd Person (still on decent driving sims though :P), but this is just my generalisation of the seemingly more popular games on each of the systems.

People who buy the Wii... i guess they just like having fun. YAY WII (man i wanna get one)

Microsofts clams about Street Fighter IV sales are either LIES, or they are simply referring to the American market only. Not total amount of sales worldwide. Which makes that a misleading comment.

Because Street Fighter IV has sold more on PS3 so far.

PS3 - 761,932
360 - 668,155

http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly.php

Resident Evil 5 have also sold more on PS3 so far.

PS3 - 994,357
360 - 777,121

So I would take their predictions about RE5 and FF13 with a grain of salt.
