Resident Evil 5 - Image 1

Capcom has already confirmed that Resident Evil 5 DLC will be coming down the line, but the first announcement didn't really give any clues as to what the DLC will be. The March issue of the PlayStation: The Official Magazine (US edition) does, though.

The following statement was made near the end of the mag's Resident Evil 5 review:

The fun doesn't end when you complete RE5's main story-line. We're sworn to secrecy, but we've had a peek at an unlockable mode for forthcoming DLC, and it's awesome.

No further details yet on this unlockable mode, but it's nice to know that the DLC will be meatier than just a couple of skins. The statement was made in a review of the PlayStation 3 version of the game, but there's been no indication that the DLC will be PS3-exclusive.

Resident Evil 5 is scheduled for a March 13 release on PS3 and Xbox 360.

A Mercenaries mode. That should be included with the game, if I beat RE5 and find no unlockable Mercenaries mode and then find out I have to pay to get it I'll be pissed. Especially because the director has says this is a shorter game than RE4, so if its shorter on time AND shorter on bonus content I'll just go back to playing RE4...

But if that's not the case than I'll be looking forward to what eve it is.

Why can't game companies focus on perfecting the game on disc and stop putting additional content and patches?

I don't know what the hype is on this hybrid disc. This has been done for years.

Getting pretty tired of Capcom and game companies in general announcing DLC before a game even releases. Everything Capcom has been selling as DLC is stuff that would've been unlockables last gen. Now to get the same things you have to give the company even more money

I'd have no problem with this if it came out months after RE5's release, but it's probably something they are purposefully keeping out of the game to sell later (or, in the case of SF1V, on the same day the game comes out)

I think we all need to keep in mind that companies are in business to make money. And just becauce a company is adding new content to a game through dlc doesn't mean that it would have automatically been there if paid dlc wasn't arround. Maybe the companies are spending the extra time to create the new contect before the game comes out knowing that they will make some extra cash when they unlock it later on. But, without paid dlc they might have decided to forgoe that extra feature because the time and expense of building it would cut away from what profits they make from the original game sales. I for one would prefer to pay extra to have more content to a game I like, rather than not have it at all.

Is when the dlc is actually already on the disc, and all you buy on the marketplace is an unlock code.

I see your point, but I still don't like this. If it could've been included at shipping time it should have been, end of story. Not held back on purpose to charge more for later. Underhanded is an understatement for that. $60 is already too much for games

This isn't a great example, but Gears 2 map DLC includes two maps and the third was a map from Gears1 for PC (free with the game). Gears 2 cost only $10 mil to make, and ranked in hundreds of millions in profits. And they have the mind to charge $10 more for two new maps plus one they had lying around from Gears 1 for PC? Ridiculous

Now Capcom is going to charge $4 for 5 costumes in SFIV, on the day of release no less.
