Ó

Geoff Keighley of GT TV recently rounded up members of Insomniac Games' crew for a Q&A session regarding Resistance 2. Insomniac president Ted Price was among those present, and was more than happy to introduce some new details regarding the game.

For starters, Price noted that by the time Resistance 2 begins, game protagonist Sgt. Nathan Hale only has 19 hours to live. Price didn't explain how or why this is the case, though it certainly adds intensity to Hale's plot, even as he once again enters the fray against the chimeras. Here are some of the other interesting tidbits Insomniac mentioned in the video - don't worry, there are no plot spoilers:
  • Focuses on Hale - he's got 19 hours to live
  • One boss in Resistance 2 is 300 feet tall
  • No pullouts to show narration - it all within Hale's perspective
  • Hale isn't the only soldier immune to the Chimeran virus
  • Starts two years after Resistance: Fall of Man
  • Eight-player Co-op campaign, with specialized roles
  • Setting: Downtown Chicago and San Francisco
  • The Hailstorm's gone
  • No vehicles for the multi-player bouts
And lest we forget, expect to see generous amounts of gameplay footage, which should give you an idea of how far along the title is in development. Aside from Resistance 2, expect to see some extra clips discussing THQ's upcoming game based on the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), and Activision's Guitar Hero: Aerosmith (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii). Grab a chair, maybe a drink, and enjoy the video!

 » Only 19 Hours...

I predict:

They magically find a cure.

Or he dies and it's all epic and awesome.

Seriously though, that's a cool little plot twist. Looks like the story will actually been entertaining this time.

Or he turns into a Chimera himself! But does he switch sides, or continue on his mission?

Or after the 19 hours, maybe we play as the Cloven?

Whatever happens, I'm so excited :D

» I hope they improve the multiplayer.

I thought the multiplayer for the first game was terrible. I know this was Insomniacs first FPS so its not surprising that it wasnt done well but now that they have their feet wet I hope they come up with some better level designs and make it easier to tell what the f*** is going on. All people seemed to do was hide behind a bush and snipe people (boring).

doesn't that pretty much limit the game to 19 hours max? i hope they find a cure or something, because i don't want to have to try to beat the game in under 19 hours. it would be pretty cool if you get more and more chimeran abilities the closer you get to the 19 hour mark.

Re: Gino D. (QJ. NET Staff) - 2008-06-14
 » hmmmm not necessarily

the timer could stop and there could be flashbacks (or flash forwards, like Lost?) in between - whether shown as cutscenes or flashbacks that actually allow you to control Nathan Hale. who knows?

they can also add some unlockable mode (probably when you finish campaign mode?) where you can control another character in his or her journey that takes place DURING Nathan Hale's 19 hours. kinda like how they do it in Resident Evil.

check out that one bulletpoint in the list:

"Hale isn't the only soldier immune to the Chimeran virus"

pretty intriguing if they chucked in a little bonus where you get to follow the footsteps of another one of those soldiers immune to the virus. ^_^

i know the devs said they're focusing a lot on Hale's story. but that doesn't mean they can't throw in a sidequest mode focusing on another character. *shrug* that's one of the many reasons why i like the RE games. extends replayability. ^_^

just tossing around ideas. ;-)

» I asked that same question

what they tell me in the blog is... don't worry... we are not 24 lol

   Re: NarooN - 2008-06-14
 » Awesome Theory, Gino.

That theory just got me even more pumped up for the game, which shouldn't be possible because I'm on my 2nd playthrough of MGS4 now.

The game is told completely through Hale's point of view right? That means it's narrative style is just like the Half-Life and Portal games, which is really great. I'm thinking that this other immune soldiers will possibly go 'against' Hale or lead him in the right direction. Whomever they may be, they'd probably play a passively active role.

And since the multiplayer co-op ties in with the main quest, does that mean this other soldier could make an appearance there, or even Hale himself? I love upcoming game speculation. More time to wait...oh well. MGS4 is here, with MGO.

*goes off to play*

 » No Hailstorm?

No more Hailstorm? Damn that was a fun gun to use. Handy when you were on low health and surrounded by enemies. Turret anyone?

was my favorite gun in the game >.

i never beat the first one

   Re: NarooN - 2008-06-16
 » lol me either.

I got bored and stopped about 1/4 through. It was just a bunch of randomly interconnected levels and drab environments so I hopped on wikipedia and read a plot summary.

Then I went online for a few days and got bored of that too.

» Looking VERY forward to this game

Will get the first one to catch up on the story, then get the second one after.
Insomniac FTW!
