 The hype surrounding the much-awaited Grand Theft Auto 4 release has unfortunately been doused with killer vibes in the form of the freeze issues. It's been over a week since the release and since the discovery of the problem, but still it persists, even with the release of the patch fix.Now, however, Rockstar has spoken out and has pinpointed the blame to the power hardware that is the PS3. Yep, that's what they're saying. It's not us, It's them. In an email sent to Wolfgang187, N4G contributor, this is what Rockstar has to say on the matter: Thank you for your patience while we continue to work to resolve this hardware-related issue. We have provided your information to Sony, and they will be contacting you directly to assist in the repair and/or replacement of your PlayStation 3 console. Once again, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has causes. Please provide us with your mailing address and shirt size at your earliest convenience, as we would like to send you something as a token of appreciation for your patience with this matter. Ooh, a free shirt, am guessing that token would be! Still, as cool as that freebie would certainly be, we still think that no amount of luxurious swag bag could ever replace the joy of finally playing our GTA IV in peace. |

Oh, and it IS the hardware. This isn't the first time a game has frozen the PS3. I only have 5 games and out of those I've had 3 freeze up on me.

we all know dev guys like your company have an extensive number of test ps3 units from all SKU and manufacture date. im sure you also have those so called faulty ps3 units but just didnt have the time to fix it before release.
of course only few companies are courageable enough to admit its own fault.
and i think the free t-shirt, even though its way cool will only makes matters worse because it will encourage more people (even without defective units) to blabber and claim for such item.

So by what your saying GTA IV's greatness made some already old ps3's break, so that means Assassin's creed did the same exact thing. Yet a game like resistance fall of man had 40 online and never froze once for me? It doesn't add up. I understand people like this game but don't blame the system for somthing the game developers did wrong. The freezing issue happens only with a few games, meaning it has to be a problem in the game(GTA IV being one of them).

Did they forget that the Xbox 360 is having the same issue? I have the game for the PS3 and am dissapointed enough that it is no where near as good as San Andreas and yet it freezes too. I already beat the game (took one week compared to San Andreas which took 2 years and Vice City and 3 which I still haven't beaten). This game is genuine 100% crap.

I have tons of people on my friendslist playing, all with no problems, and have watched my buddy play for a good 15-20 hrs, no problems....
it's not a problem on 360.....that's why you havn't seen MS give a statement and you havn't seen Rockstar mention 360......only people on forums saying 360 has problems as well so that their PS3 doesn't look so bad....

For all you haters, shut the ***** up, the game is better than San Andreas and offers one of the best playing experiences you can currently get, if you're going to moan, go back to playing some generic FPS or some random anime fantasy crap. Now, GTA4 was developed on the latest issue hardware from Sony and Microsoft, that's why newer consoles don't have these problems (I have one of the latest Xbox 360's and not had a single issue except for Multiplayer connection), My mate has one of the latest PS3's that he bought with the game and also hasn't had any problems. There are rumours going around that older hardware with it's different specs are having a negative effect on the game, 60GB PS3's have been accused of the EE Chip affecting the game badly and causing the crashes. I've been playing this game for over a week and I'm enjoying it, I'm not rushing through the game like most people have done and I'm still enjoying all the side missions and exploring the city. If you beat it already and moaning, then don't *****ing rush through it, I bet you guys didn't even do the 30 odd job missions that only appear at certain times. If it's crashing, then I feel sorry for you and I hope newer firmwares will sort this issue.

No, I don't have a freaking 60GB unit I have an 80GB which I just got in January (after replacing another 80GB unit I had) so it has nothing to do with how old the hardware is. And IV does suck big time. I agree, it has great graphics and an excellent damage system but thats about it. It's like Rockstar completely forgot SA existed. You really want me to list all the stuff I can do in my four year old San Andreas that I cant do in this brand new NEXT GEN game? Ok, I will:
. You cant goto gyms
. There are no gas tanks on any of the cars
. There is no offline multiplayer
. There are no rampages like in ALL previous GTA's
. There are no casinos
. There is less you can eat at the restaurants
. The storyline is much shorter and very homophobic
. There is no tattoos
. There is no body modifications of any kind (even haircuts)
. There is less clothing available
. There city is much smaller
. There are no stats to build up (like driving skills or shooting skills)
. There are no Ammu-Nations which have been in ALL GTA's
. There is no car modifications of any sort except random paint changes at Pay 'N' Spray (yup, just like in GTA III)

Well if you did, you would have known that you couldnt expect a San Andreas with better Graphics and more features.
R* made it very clear what is going to be in the game and what wont, and they also reasoned for it.
The keyword is gaming experience, which would be ruined if a fat Niko was wearing funny clothes, an Afro and blue glasses in a serious cutscene about drugs, murder+ crime.
I love San Ansreas, still played it a few months ago, but SA is a fun-based game. They crammed everything in there that the fans wanted, and didnt mind the overall look. They saw fun much more important than Realism.
IV however is all about the overall look+ experience. They put everything in there which would have a genuine feel to it, which would be plausible for a guy like niko to do, wear or use. And its adopted to our present society, with handys, internet, online dating, emails and stuff like that.
I liked SA and I think that IV rocks, I love what they made of the series, and even if they have taken out stuff, it nevertheless is a step forward.

But if you think about realism wise then wasn't SA more real than GTA IV? In real life I'm pretty sure everyone isn't wearing the same thing, and I'm pretty sure you can get a hair cut. Along with all that do you think it degrades the experience to be able to level up certain abilitys? In real life we're not all the same strength, we don't have the same speed, and we can't breath underwater for the same amount of time. I think instead of downgrading the game with features they should have added those past features, just more refined and better. In my opinion if they added all of that it wouldn't be a step forward, it'd be a leap.

But if you think about realism wise then wasn't SA more real than GTA IV? In real life I'm pretty sure everyone isn't wearing the same thing, and I'm pretty sure you can get a hair cut. Along with all that do you think it degrades the experience to be able to level up certain abilitys? In real life we're not all the same strength, we don't have the same speed, and we can't breath underwater for the same amount of time. I think instead of downgrading the game with features they should have added those past features, just more refined and better. In my opinion if they added all of that it wouldn't be a step forward, it'd be a leap.

Probably 3 times in 30-ish hours of play (it seems to happen when I reach a destination on the GPS) on GTA4. While I'm not explicitly blaming the game, it is the only one to lock up my Xbox. My brother's PS3 version has not locked up (he has a launch 20).

It's funny how my PS3 is to blame, when my PS3 had NO problems until GTA4 came along. Rockstar is just afraid to say "it's out fault and we're too lazy to make a patch".

A self explanation would be to go to the store and buy Assassin's creed and don't update it. Play it for a about an hour and I'm pretty sure you'll freeze during your play. It is CERTAIN games that cause your ps3 to freeze, not all of them. So you probably just picked the good games.

The only people ranting that it's the PS3 and not the game are either Rockstar or a bunch of 360 fanboys who don't own GTA4 but are trying to bash the PS3.
