PS3 users have had access to Facebook and other social networking sites like Twitter for a while now thanks to the console's web browser. It looks like Sony wants to take it a step further though by integrating a Facebook icon directly into the XMB.

Some images found on the UK Playstation website points to the integration. Other images show other new features, including the ability to change gamercard colors. I'm tagging this as a rumor for now since nothing official has been announced, but hey! Official site!

The Facebook icon image first reported by ScrawlFX was in Portuguese (?), but I did a bit of poking around and turned up one in English.

You can view the images on the UK Playstation site here, here, and here. That is, if they haven't taken them down yet. No word on when these features will be added, but seeing as how they're already on the official site's server it could very well be in the next firmware update.

Sony would leak pics, they always do. Its part of their marketing scheme.

 » Why Sony ?!?!

Total waste of a feature. They should work on the bugs with Internet Browser, work on bringing Hulu to PS3, or maybe even fix there Youtube interface. Stop putting BS out !! :(

» work on bringing Hulu to PS3,

They cant. Hulu worked on PS3 till hulu wentout of their way to block PS3

Re: ISOHaven - 9 days ago
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

You act as if only one person is working on features at a time. I think sony's R+D can work on everything at once.

 » it's not bad but...

What they are doing is ok... but I kinda agree with you, but instead of Hulu they should enable the HD in youtube in the PS3

 » Order-Sol, I agree with you

So many networking sites and facebook is low on my list. I do think it would be cool if they made applications available for download off the Playstation Store and a facebook app could be one of them. I hope they go that route instead of forcing us to have clutter we don't want.

 » Ah Sony

You couldnt hide a needle in a haystack....Also agree with Order-Sol on wishing they'd work on the internet browser/online tv instead of incorporating useless* features.

*useless to me...the only person who matters

it seems like Sony wants to take out all advantages XBL has. At the moment they're pretty good at it.

Yeah, so now I've officially stopped caring for these firmware updates. Instead of just adding cross-game chat, and getting it over with, they just wanna work on stuff like the Photo Gallery and letting us change the color of our Gamercards. Good job Sony, you guys just keep the good work up.

And looks like they pulled the images as well. They couldn't hide a barn from a trained sniper. They're the types who would wear snow-camo in a jungle environment.

 » w-hat?

could anyone hide a barn from a trained sniper?
the snow-camo thing was funny, but yeah...
how do you know these photos aren't supposed to distract us from cross-game chat? that might have been the plan but obviously it failed.
i'm under the impression maybe they have a lil difficulty with it atm so they're getting these features in. i personally would love facebook on my ps3. one less reason to turn on the ol' comp and keep on gaming instead

Re: Eclipze_ - 9 days ago
 » I don't mind

Social networking isn't for everyone, especially if your already using another form of it: gaming. But some people like it out there and it actually caters to a large crowd of people. I understand that if I don't find any use for it at least someone else will.

Me personally... I'd rather them put Skype on the PS3, you can just do way more with it.

Re: JOshISPoser - 9 days ago
 » skype

that's genius since they have it on PSP. that'd actually work quite well. i could see like a pop-out friends list for skype kind of like how the text-chats and video-chats pop out.
so, great idea for that.

You know, this *****book revolution is really starting to piss me off. Facebook is nothing but a crappy rip off of MySpace, why the ***** is everyone all of a sudden going crazy over it? Its pathetic and destroys the exact meaning of social networking. Absolutely pathetic website, filled with tons of spam apps that suck big time. Give us a damn MySpace app for gosh sakes.

Re: bmxadan - 9 days ago
 » you are right.

facebook sucks,myspace is the shizz

Re: JOshISPoser - 9 days ago
 » facebook revolution?

it's been big for a while and it's soooo much better than myspace. myspace has been copying facebook for it's features lately.
myspace is like still for teens and stuff whereas i feel facebook is more mature but everyone's on it since it is a great site.

Re: FelisCatusLover - 9 days ago

All facebook is is those stupid apps which are so damn dumb. They have nothing to do with social messaging. I actually have a facebook profile but never use it. You cant even link to it or search for people without being registered. They make it so difficult to do basic things like talk to people, which is what SOCIAL NETWORKING is supposed to be about. And as for MySpace ripping it, your right, they have been recently, but luckily on MySpace the *****ty apps can be turned off, they cant be on facebook. Even uploading a simple picture on facebook is a difficult task. Whenever I do login to facebook, the first thing I see is a ton of messages saying stupid ***** like "so and so bought you for $$$" I mean give me a break, you say THIS is more mature?

i think you're just retarded and don't belong on the internet

agreed.

 » Oh god no

Do we have to put up with myspace fanboys?
   by Bountyhunter53 - 9 days ago
 » Hmm....

Whats the point of adding Facebook to the PS3? I seriously have enough stuff on my wall already with Mafia Wars and other applications. This would just make it messier unless Sony is willing to get Facebook to make there own status thing which isn't recorded.

BTW people with 0 friends on Facebook are lucky cause having 300 Facebook addicts as friends seriously annoys you. They update there wall every 30 secs.....

When do they planning on releasing new avatars?

Re: GUNBEHINDTHESUN - 9 days ago
 » SSJGoku786 i'm with you

A lot of the avatars are horrible. Some are plain or look sickening. What is so hard with giving us more avatars?

I meant "plan on".
Where's the edit button?

of all these people wanting me to join another *****ty networking site -facebook *ugh* telling me its so much better - hey cram it! not interested ok. As if i was so pleased with myspace to begin with. idk maybe its just not for some like me. Imo gaming is the best social networking out there! lol
