WipEout HD - Image 1WipEout HD fans were a bit disappointed when Sony Computer Entertainment Europe David Reeves announced that the game was being delayed due to "a specific technical problem with WipEout that we [Sony] have to solve."

Now because Reeves failed to give any specific details on this problem, there has been a lot of speculation regarding what the exact issue is. One of the more notable rumors is that the game's 60 frames per second coupled with the bright flashing backgrounds has been causing epileptic seizures.

Website TheSixthAxis contacted Sony regarding this and got a response from them. Unfortunately, the answer skirted around the question and didn't help clarify the situation. Here's what the Sony spokesperson said:

WipEout HD is still in development for PSN and we are currently perfecting many aspects of the game, including the online multiplayer experience. We look forward to unveiling all 8 tracks in the single player game, plus the online multiplayer experience, which allows for up to 8 players on each track, along with all the other game modes.

Yeah it's just a rumor, but I think it's pretty plausible. I remember this episode of Pokemon once. The one with Porygon. It was banned because there was a scene with some crazy colors strobe-lighting for a few seconds.

Kids were getting headaches and, in extreme cases, knocked unconscious. Some were even rushed to hospitals because of it.

I think the diagnosis was photosensitive epilepsy.

 » hmm

so maybe thats why the ps3 has the option to limit the colours on screen - something GameTrailers.com are familiar with

» Reminds me of The Simpsons....

When they go to Japan for a holiday and Bart watches that show "Battling Seizure Robots!" or something.

If the technical problem was that it caused seizures, that just makes me even more excited for this game hehe.

i'm trying to imagine this:

a tester is sitting in his living room, boots up the game and is blown away. halfway into his first race, he hits a mega boost, and his eyes widen to take in all the glory. the screen gets brighter and brighter, he goes faster and faster, and as he rounds the last corner, he hits the boost again... HOOOOLYYYYYY SHIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!! *seizure*
