DualShock 3 - Image 1It's no secret that Sony's new DualShock 3 controller will be on sale next week, marking the return of rumble functionality to Sony consoles. While this is a nice thing indeed, some are wondering what will happen to the old SIXAXIS pads.

A Sony rep said that the old controllers will no longer be available after store stocks have sold out completely. Estimates suggest that the summer of 2008 could see the last of these babies.

Now, the only thing to be answered is which titles will the DualShock 3 be compatible with? A lot of them, apparently. Some of which will be immediately able to utilize rumbling, while others will require software updates via PSN. In any case, here's the list:
  • Formula One Championship Edition* (PS3)
  • MotorStorm* (PS3)
  • PAIN (PSN)
  • High Velocity Bowling (PSN)
  • MLB 08: The Show (PS3)
  • Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (PS3)
  • Resistance: Fall of Man* (PS3)
  • Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (PS3)
  • Go! Sports Ski* (PSN)
  • Folklore* (PS3)
  • Heavenly Sword* (PS3)
  • Warhawk* (PSN / PS3)
  • Super Stardust HD* (PSN)
  • Snakeball (PSN)
  • Toy Home (PSN)
  • PSOne Emulation (PSN)
  • Piyotama (PSN)
  • PixelJunk Monsters (PSN)
  • Blast Factor* (PSN)
  •  Condemned 2: Bloodshot (PS3)
  • Lost: Via Domus (PS3)
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2* (PS3)
  • Burnout Paradise (PS3)
  • Dynasty Warriors 6 (PS3)
  • Devil May Cry 4 (PS3)
  • Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit (PS3)
  • Turok (PS3)
The "*" signifies that the title will receive an update that will make it compatible with the DualShock 3.

It's gonna be my second controller, perfect for GTA4, GRAW2 and dynasty warriors! :D Now I just need RS Vegas to drop at 19$! :D

Have fun guys!

 » Lame list

QJ's list in this article is quite outdated. I've had 2 DualShock 3's for months now (imported from Japan). Nearly every asterisked title they list has already had a rumble patch for months. (They state that the titles "will" receive an update.) Also, there are many more new games which have rumble support built-in, such as Kane + Lynch, Army Of Two, Need For Speed ProStreet, Unreal Tournament III, etc. --I really wish they would patch Stranglehold for rumble support, though.

 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

What's wrong with that comment?

If you go out and buy MotorStorm and put it in your PS3 it "WILL" receive an update.

I think some people are reading too much into it.

 » Good......

They need to remove the SIXAXIS completey, it doesnt suit the controler and is well to put it simply crap.. rumble is a much better feature dont know what sony was thinking at the time.....

   Re: Evolution_X - 2008-04-02
» Answer to what sony was thinking

The simple answer to "what was sony thinking at the time" is to avoid another lawsuit. They were in the process of getting sued when they were designing the PS3, it was only after the PS3 was launched that they kissed and made up with immersion.

Back on topic, I have 2 dualshock 3's and they do their job brilliantly. Feeling the rumble strips on GT5 Prologue, the recoil from the gunshots and explosions in Rainbow 6 Vegas 2. It really does make a difference to your gaming experience.

I'm so glad I imported and didnt wait for the UK release.

ur a dumbass to say "they need to remove the SIXAXIS completey". Its a good feature. And if you didn't know the Dual Shock 3 comes with rumble AND SIXAXIS.

Speak for yourself cause I don't know about you but I'd rather have both (not one or the other).

 » QJ Staff blows

Seems like lately the QJ staff cannot do anything right. The controller comes out on April 15th. It is the 2nd now. I am curious why you said this week, when it is 13 days away?

Check the source link. SONY said next week:

 » yeah right

new games like UT3 and Dark Sector make great use of the motion controls especially Dark Sector. Heavenly Sword and Ratchet and Clank Future were great as well with their use of motion control.

maybe you just don't play games with it in them

 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

Some people seem to think Sony is removing SIXAXIS itself???

Glen D., you totaly screwed up this news article. You made it seem like Sony is no longer providing SIXAXIS by saying SIXAXIS is OUT.

That is INCORRECT. Your title is bogus.

Sony will no longer sell the SIXAXIS ONLY controller. That controller is out, NOT SIXAXIS itself.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious, perhaps the only time you were ever right about something.

   Re: ISOHaven - 2008-04-03
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

As usual, Mr. Nonsense is talking out his rear end. Since other users commented on the death of SIXAXIS....obviously, it wasn't obvious.

But, thanks for stepping up and being the typical douche bag you are.

   Re: PS2GT - 2008-04-03
 » lol nooblet

when everyone(sony, the world) says SIXAXIS they mean the controller because the name of the controller is SIXAXIS, not the motion sensors, are you retarded?????

   Re: ISOHaven - 2008-04-03
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

PS2GT,
How funny, you call me retarded yet you obviously have no clue as to what you are talking about. Sony has named the motion sensing technology in thier controller, "SIXAXIS".

From Sony:
"SIXAXIS technology is also included, so you can still use motion control, and the controller features Bluetooth technology for wireless gameplay."

Now wipe all that egg off your face.

» To Rumble or not to rumble, that is the question

I own 4 sixaxis controllers and I have thought about buying one of these babies. But I don't want more than 4 controllers at my house, and I wont get much for one if I trade one in. So I will just have to enjoy one at a friends house ='(

Does anyone know how much heavier the DualShock3 is than the SIXAXIS?

I personally really love the lightness of the SIXAXIS... it has a really great feel to it.

 » I don't want the new controller

I want an attachment to make the original sixaxis this way because that would mean I wasted a lot of money.

COD4. I'm surprised they haven't put in rumble support for this game, yet they want people to buy new maps.

   Re: sheol - 2008-04-02

Freakin-a, yo. I was waiting to complete the game on veteran until I got the dualshock3. I really hope they put it in... for free.

 » wtf????

MotorStorm* (PS3)
The "*" signifies that the title will receive an update that will make it compatible with the DualShock 3.

man theses noobs here need to turn on a ps3 and play motorstorm because like 2 months ago an update for motorstorm came out and with it was a rumble option in the pause menu so they need to redo their ***** on this article, because my motorstorm has been waiting for ds3 way way before this article!!!!!

   Re: Eclipze_ - 2008-04-02
 » I think it means

You'll need an update to use rumble and that it dosnt come with the game once you buy it. So the sign means that you'll need to DL the patch to actually use it with that game.

   Re: ISOHaven - 2008-04-04
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

PS2GT sure does love to call people names all while being completely wrong himself....ironic or HILARIOUS? Hehehe....
   by Stewies - 2008-04-02
 » & Brian

For a minute I thought to myself how great it would have been for Sony to have to add another product to its failure list but clearly sixaxis is part of dual shock III. Also to Steven777, I don't know what you were thinking when you bought four controllers and I really hope not all at once. Companies always have updates to their products, whether minor or major to work out the kinks and whatnot. For example I hope the selling rate for psp slim decreases due to the fact that there is a ten-year commitment towards psp and also a rumor of a third version.

 » Huh? That's weird.

DualShock 3 is coming out next week? I thought it was already out. I saw, like, a lot of them around here (in the Philippines).

That's weird.

by Mister Common Sense - 2008-04-03
 » I've had Dualshock 3 since December

The Dualshock 3 is sooo much better than the Wiimote. You can play motion sensing games as well as traditional type games with rumble. Greedy Nintendo makes you buy a classic controller, Gamecube controller, wiimote, and nunchuck to get the same functionality. Ouch, over $100 for all those controllers when the Dualshock is only $55.

Unless of course you just need to have that pointer that bounces randomly all over the screen. A mouse works better.

   Re: ISOHaven - 2008-04-03
 » WTF!?!?!?!?!

HAHAHAHA!!!!!!

This douche bag likes to run around and give Nintendo crap about how CRAPPY their motion sensing is when the PS3 has gotten WAY MORE negative attention with their motion sensing.

What a hypocrite!

As usual, it's time to put his idiotic remarks in check!!!

All three mentioned controllers ARE NOT needed to reproduce the new DS3. In FACT not all three can be used at the same time. So once again Mr. Nonsense is talking out his rear end and has only one objective in life......to cry and whine about the Wii....plus he's doing it in a PS3 news article.

"Unless of course you just need to have that pointer that bounces randomly all over the screen."
Once again, here he is proving he has NO CLUE how the Wii works.

Here's more proof that he's truly the idiot he seems to be and that he has no understanding of how the Wii works:

   Re: aroxim - 2008-04-03
 » yeaa....

i mean i totally agree with isohaven
tho in the sense that it totally impossible to use the 3 at once. wiimote + nunchuck+ one controller... plus gamecube and classic controller... i think the only way u can use them at once, not by same person tho of course, is in brawl....
but i have to say that motion sensing on the wii is superior to the ps3..

personally i hate motion sensing..
i hate it in the ps3 games,
and i hate wii games for this reason...
sooo...
   by aroxim - 2008-04-03
 » cod4...

should seriously have some rumble....
its like the main reason why i want it.. i mean i do have dmc4 and ut3, and AC, and stuff... but why not cod4? :'(
