From the way things are going, progress on Saints Row 2 appears to be moving along smoothly. THQ has recently announced several new updates (via IGN) regarding the game including details on its release date, and the launch of its official site.

First off, Saints Row 2 for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 has been confirmed to release on August 26, 2008. In connection to this, the company further notes that the fans can now begin pre-ordering their copies.
