These lines hold a fishy spot in the hearts of many a LOTR fan as the final chorus of Gollum's fish song. Deemed as fiction's - not to mention Hollywood's as well - most recognized schizo, Gollum was brought to life and immortalized by CG-actor Andy Serkis. Introductions aside, it's time to hear what dear Serkis-Gollum has to say about his role in Heavenly Sword.
Details about Ninja Theory's game is still kept under wraps, but IGN was able to have a little sit-down with Serkis about his view on where the game is headed. He's a major contributor, after all, working in the writing, casting, directing, character development, and directing the performance capture of the game.
I really think that in ten years time when actors come out of drama school they'll be doing theatre, film, TV and games. Motion capture is becoming such a part of the acting toolkit. Film and gaming are creeping closer and closer together, and this, because of the facial motion capture involved, is really highly performance-motivated and narrative-driven. The gamer is invited into the movie, really, as opposed to hack-and-slash. I think it'll be a pretty cool game actually.
Much to say, it seems as if they're trying to grab the gamers, hook, line, and sinker, with enticing them to a cinematic experience with Heavenly Sword. And from what we've seen so far, Serkis and the rest of Team Ninja will be able to succeed in this. As for more "juicy-sweet" details about the game itself - story, characters, weapons, and whatnot - we'll keep you posted as they swim along.
