We're very committed to online gaming and downloadable content via the PlayStation Network, but we're going about it in a very unique way in that we're not charging a monthly fee. |

i was playing the mp3 of Lair music from the psn while i read this, it feels like this artical needs its own movie now lol, but to the subject, i do find it somewhat worrying for XBL since home is due and since the home update i feel this artical is more truthful, also since both companys are takeing each others ideas, no point to really follow a company, it still goes to the basics of which genre of games you are more fond of... anyway i just got to say one thing... ps3 pushes bluray on their console and 360 pushes microtransations... thus each console is equal in some form or another, but of course since flaming is at a all time low on here, i see no point for QJ to even bring up such articals lol why compare anymore if there is less flaming eh? we are all gamers, and i am sure we all enjoy some form of media, so all i got to say now is all gamers should respect each other, their choice is their choice, they dont need to hear the bad news unless in danger, because do you really want to hear about how your new car (console) you just bought has a great stereo, but has no air conditoner? then somebody says "i told you so" making you feel like a inferior consumer? thus flaming starts, "well my stereo is better than yours!"
anyway again no more flaming yay!
flaming on QJ is at an all time low...
i'm losing me edge.
I'm sorry but so far this is all talk. Making a network like this takes a lot of time and there are going to be many unforeseen bugs when millions of players try to log in at the same time. xbox live has been out for years now and a lot of those bugs have been ironed out. I think sony's service is going to be a joke for the first 2 years at least. They have a lot of catching up to do and i'm not saying they can't do it but i'm just saying lets wait to see how things go before we start compairing something that doesn't exist to something that has been around for many years. Oh and Quixand how is your subway?
1st off its free, second they have dedicated servers which mean no lag for most games.
i pay for xbox live and yet no dedicated servers COME ON! mind you private chat is nice.
servers always work 4 me n PS3 AND 360. both are amazing, but Sonys talkin too much. Whens the last time you heard Microsoft talkn shtake about Sony? They need to stop bein so arogant and try to learn from the other network. Sure its free n i really like that, but it doesnt hav that much to offer besides demos n trailers n stuff..
if these "industry experts" even look at the features that XBL has for free....you can download movies, trailers, demo's, chat and all for free....of course you have to pay for full HD movies or TV shows, but the ONLY thing you pay the "monthly" fee for is online gaming.
So why would MS stop charging in the future ? They would have already dropped the fee's if they felt it were neccessary, as PS3 is already doing online play for free.
**IF** Sony add's downloadable music and movies (i've heard this "plan" before for PSP years ago, where is it?) onto their already free service, and charge for downloading them...it will be exactlly the same as anyone in the states now with XBL Silver.....
No different at all....just years late....
XBL charges $5/month for a reason. They have dedicated servers to handle the uniformed online play. That way the xbox people don't have to create different ID's for different companies online play.
If PSN is expecting to do the same thing, for free, then don't expect it to last. If the PSN is simply going to be a playstation 3 ONLY thing, and you'll still have different ID's and different player lists for each companies online play, then it might stay free.
All I'm saying is that MS offers a lot of content to their free XBL members, $5 isn't that much more for the ability to play any game with a constant ID. PSN looks like a great idea on paper, but I'm wondering how it will fare once it's in use for a while (note I said "For a while." Because it's new EVERYONE will think it's the greatest thing ever when it first launches).
You are mistaken as your PSN is the same for every single game you play.
You fail because you have no idea what you are talking about.
You need some reading comprehension courses there pal.
If you'd reread what I wrote, You'd notice in that second paragraph there that I stated, fairly clearly (I thought), that I didn't know exactly how PSN worked. That's why I gave two seperate "IF" statements.
If what you say is true, that the PSN ID stays the same for every game, then refer to my first IF statement in the second paragraph, in which I state "If PSN is expecting to do the same thing, for free, then don't expect it to last."
So, I covered my bases...and if that's the case, then don't expect a free PSN for ever. Sony will soon realize that it takes a lot of money to keep that kind of network up.
Why doesn't sony introduce their movie download services first, then say how good it is? They've always had problems and delays with these types of things (like with the PSP.) I don't care about downloading movies to my GAME CONSOLE, but XBOX live had that feature for almost a year now. Sony's response when it was announced? "MS is doing a disservice to its customers by not including a hard drive standard with the core 360."
Advice to sony: do what needs to be done, get the contracts signed, content ready for download, servers set up, go online, etc. THEN, say PSN movie download service has these advantages over XBOX live movie download service.
PSN has many advantages so far for online gaming like dedicated servers.
It's a shame that developers for the Xbox360 are lazy in that they don't develop better ways to use XBL besides the client hosting of games.
PS3 and PSN have two games that stand out above any game on XBL. RFoM and Warhawk. Dedicated servers provide the best possible gaming experience and XBL is laggy half the time because people have to host their own games.
I would pay $5 a month for XBL is it was worth it. Being a PC gamer means I expect a high level of service when I'm playing the game, unlike XBL, they give you features that enhance the experience when your not playing online.
Going from playing PC games with 20-30 people in a game wit no lag to Xbox Live which has over 99% of games with 16 players or less and is laggy half the time is a severe downgrade.
PSN is the closest thing you can get to PC gaming as long as they use dedicated servers. Developers wont be limited by XBL and its restrictions and are able to make better online games. The developers of HAZE even said they didn;t like XBL because it restricts them too much. UT3 on the Xbox360 is getting a severe gimp because of the restrictions of XBL.
You also "fail" buddy, as EA host's it's own servers on XBL...it's all up to the dev/publisher and how much money they want to waste...
Finally post number one, dude your right, someone on my page
