They have arrived. You can now avail yourselves of the Silver DualShock 3 controller for the PS3, and the rumored launch date buzzed back in April was pretty accurate, more or less. Yep, the silver ones are out of the box and into the store shelves. Soon they'll be joining you in your PS3 games. Be ready to shell out US$ 54.99, same price as the regular black one. We're tuning in to hear if a Silver unit is on its way as well. More PS3 rumors:

damn, they really need to lower the price for that thing, even a 360 controller bundled with batteries or a Wiimite + Nunchuck combo is cheaper.

wiimote ($40) + Nunchuck ($20) > Dualshock 3 ($55)
360 wireless controller ($50) + Play and Charge Kit ($20) > Dualshock 3 ($20)

I usually compare the prices at amazon where the articles aren't overpriced.
Dualshock 3 Silver: 55 dollars
Xbox 360 Wireless controller: 35 dollars
Wiimote + Nunchuck: 43 dollars
And don't come me with the totally overpriced Play and charge kit, you can use normal batteries, which are not even 5 bucks. And that's the wireless controller, with cable it's even cheaper.

Wait, so you said don't use overpriced sites but your using Gamestop to get your price for the silver PS3 controller? Just wait for other retailers to get it and it'll be lower, just like amazon's prices for those have decreased over time.

They must have lowered the price now, when I checked Amazon it was still 54.99 $.
@dazg: I agree that all controllers are overpriced. :(

That "5 bucks" is for standard, alkaline batteries I assume? You would need to buy decent rechargeable batteries for it to compare to the play and charge kit or the dual shock 3. And not everyone has a battery charger handy so that's another purchase on top of that.
Otherwise you'll be paying that "5 bucks" on like a tri-monthly basis. Same goes for the wiimote and it's bundled standard non-rechargeables.
The Dual shock 3 might seem pricey, but your getting everything you need in the 1 purchase. Making it the same value.
Silver-Tiger, all these controllers from this generation are overpriced, not just a specific one.
