This week, we've got another trailer coming from the hardworking people over at Electronic Arts' Skate project. As usual, we're being treated to some serious next-gen eye-candy on the extreme side. What's cool about this one is that it's a comparison of the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360 versions. Check it out:

Skate is a game that's not just about speeding down a lane or getting smooth with 'em moves. It actually lets gamers take absolute control of their created characters and guide them from novice to superstar status. What's more, gamers can take advantage of Skate's option that allows them to upload clips of their finest tricks in order to show off exactly what level in the video game they're currently in. Players can even upload their fumbles as some form of entertainment, though most would probably opt not to.

So, did you spot any differences? Skate is coming out for both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 soon. Better start saving up precious though for this one, because chances are it'll be flyin' high.

   Re: Matt (Unregistered) - 2007-09-03
 » Stupid

Stupid comparison, Cross-plat for ps3/360 will always look the same... They just scale it down for the weaker system... Why design the game twice? look for differences in blockbuster exclusives, a.k.a - FF or MGS or Killzone vs. Halo 3 or BioShock or Gears

   Re: Stealth! - 2007-09-04
 » Perhaps but

The video sucks, its very slow.

   Re: Jego (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04

Another game where the PS3 has to blur out their background or erase stuff from it... Guess its just like almost every other multiconsole game.

PS3 version has PEOPLE RUNNING AROUND IN IT!

   Re: Zocks (Unregistered) - 2007-09-03
 » True

Looks cooler that way... but why this difference?? people walking around cant suck up that CPU power??

   Re: Shatterdome - 2007-09-04
 » People....

use polygons....but not that many, and the game isn't doing alot elsewhere, so I doubt it was a technical limitation....but hey, you don't make an engine that leaves abunch of untapped power...so maybe there was something holding them back....or they are just horrible programmers....because honestly this game doesn't look too sh*t hot as it is...

I'd have to say that as usual 360 has the better HDR lighting....but PS3 has a few more details going on(mainly the people).

Also the blurred background in that "playground" scene on the PS3 is actually better then the crisp clearity of the 360's BG....

They are trying to simulate atmospheric perspective where things will get hazier and less distinct the farther they move away from your eye, due to the increase of air/dust/fart particles that lay between your eye and the object you are looking at.

Too bad it's a *****e game, or i'd be happier to see PS3 pulling it's own weight and showing up 360 for once....even though you really have to take a magnifying glass to the comparison to say that...

   Re: me (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04
 » none

in the 360 demo on XBL there are people walking around... they seem to be going in random places so they might have just been off camera during this video

The 360 version is slightly brighter, other than that, everything is the exact same, even the frame rate.

I've played the 360 demo several times, it's absolutely awesome, but I have a PS3, so guess which one I'm getting.

I played the demo and i can say it is awful. It's not a game everyone can play. It's really recommended for hardcore skater fans.

 » Haha

Well all I can say is that PS3 makes all their games slightly brighter by cranking up the brigthness and contrast on all their games... but you will never be able to see a good comparison and games that are made for all platforms... you gotta wait for exclusive titles those usually are the one who proves which has da power!

   Re: matt (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04

its the different video chip. If anyone here has been following PC gaming they'd know that ATI and Nvida have always produced different colours on the exact same material.

what the hell, they looked pretty much the same to me, I noticed more gameplay difference than graphics, like on the ps3 version the guy squirmed around more....other than that....nada....the first grind down the pipe the ps3 version of the board was straight and the crapbox version was crooked with only the nut of the board grinding....also WHERE THE HELL IS MY DEMO!!

the slow down clips didnt do much good as i had no idea in what there zooming on but yea PS3 version looks better bye a small margin. they both look the same ! some contrast and brightness on ps3 version ...

360 version ALSO has ppl running around in it !

the game is designed for x360 ! not for ps3 ! check the trailers !

PLUS the flickit control system is better on 360 than ps3 ...

period ... - and i am a skater ...

   Re: Nark (Unregistered) - 2007-09-03
 » Huh?

How can you possibly say the control system is better on 360 than ps3 when you haven't played it on ps3? And how does you being a skater give you any special qualification to analyze video game console comparisons?

the 360 control pad is almost the same as ps3s. so how can it be better

   Re: fghfg (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04

Because the 360 pad has shock and you feel the bumps and the impacts, you dont have that on the PS3 pad UNLESS at the end of the year you buy another set of expensive pads
   by Seoulfood (Unregistered) - 2007-09-03
 » yea, textures, I agree

I think the clips were trying to put emphasis on the quality of the textures. The PS3 version looks to have crisper textures(on the ground at least). Its actually not too hard to see it. But it seems pretty trivial because the 360 version doesnt looks worse, per se, its just different.

   by joe (Unregistered) - 2007-09-03
 » ps3 verison

in my opinion when u look at the textures ie. the ground etc the ps3 verison seemed to have more detail

   Re: Matt (Unregistered) - 2007-09-03
 » Seems that way

Yeah, seems to have more texture, not like it really matters. PS3 is more powerful than 360 in terms of CPU power, not necessarily graphic display or polygon count... That difference is probably marginal at best. Framerate difference will become apparent in later games, and once devs understand the PS3 architecture comparisons should be more fun. I have a 360 and a Wii... Can't wait to get a PS3 though... White Knight story looks amazing.

   Re: Stealth! (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04

i hate to admit it but the background on the 360 looked more sharp and detailed than the ps3, wtf though they make it seem as if the ps3 cant achieve sharpness and detail like the 360 supposedly can.its not the ps3s fault that stupid developers dont know how to make games for it

   Re: .. (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04
 » ...

I don't know about that but it did seem as if the ps3 has a sharper detail than the 360. Maybe cause it was the lighting effect. The 360 seems brighter on my laptop than the ps3
   by ... (Unregistered) - 2007-09-03
 » Spot the Differences

On the 360 version, the first trick was a kickflip and a crooked nose grind while the PlayStaton 3 was a kickflip and then 50-50 for a second then became a nosegrind. That was the difference I saw.

» Is this site going down the drain?

I can see why some people dislike QJ.net at first I didn't know why till someone said QJ came up with the PS3 couldn't rent games rumor cause the games had a copyright protection, then I saw a game saying that External Harddrive support was rumored to happen in 1.92 even though its been out since day one, then I see this any PS3 fan knows that all EA titles are half assed, they don't use any of the PS3s power they rather just PORT. Meaning comparison is moronic.

   Re: Daga (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04
 » EA

Yes Agree with volomon, EA Ttles are always powered down for the PS3 sometimes they are just too lazy, nd they dont bother making changes in the games.

   Re: Shatterdome - 2007-09-04
 » Who's to say....

it wasn't dev'd on PS3 and ported to 360 ? It's being released at the same time on both consoles (more or less) so how do you know FOR SURE that it was dev'd for anyone one console and "ported" to the other ?

People seem to forget this is not like xbox vs PS2 where the xbox had actual features the PS2 did not (like pixel shaders) making bump-mapping and other things "physically" impossible on PS2.

This generation both consoles support the exact same set of features and abilities...they just go about them a little differently....so "porting" is not a big deal anymore.

If you have an engine running, using all your basic graphics features, the only "porting" that is done is that you have to switch from using directX commands (360) to using OpenGL(PS3)....it's not like there is a x360 programming language and a PS3 programming language.....they both use C and assembly....PS3 using abit more assembly to program the spu's but that's about it....

Quit making excuses one way or the other....
   by exionzero (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04
» meh, nothing of major discern

hmm, very minimal difference, the ps3 version had over exposed lighting, but we're used to that... a true sign of next-gen-ism :P

is it just me or on the shot where it shows the board; does the floor in the PS3 version look slightly more dtailed? by more detailed I mean it looks stained and dirty whilst the xboxx one still looks smooth and rather flat...

though in the 360s defence, the shadows look slightly better...

but yeah, very little difference... I guess this is all going to come down to what controller you prefer playing with...

   Re: Stealth! (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04
» PS3 owner you only kid yourself here

I would say comparing these type of games is pointless, as we have seen Bioshock is gettting 10 from 10 by most reviews and gone straight to number 1 in all English speaking/understanding countrys because of its amazing graphics(water etc) and gameplay whereas LAIR and Heavenly sword are averaging 5 out of 10 and 6 out of 10 in that order.

Whoever says yer but the PS3 is not the machine used or wait until the programmers do this or that is just kidding themselves.

Re: Uh what? (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04
 » oh really

Heavenly Sword is receiving what scores. Let me refresh your memory:

Play Magazine 10 out of 10
GamePro 4.5 out of 5
GameZone 8.8 out of 10
Game Informer 8.75 out of 10
Game Revolution B+
Cheat CC 4.2 out of 5
Electronic Gaming Monthly 8.33 out of 10
1UP 8 out of 10
Tilt 10/10
NextGenIreland 9.7/10
doupe.cz 9/10
PSX Extreme 9/10

Official Playstation Magazine 89/100
PSW Oct 8/10
pocket-lint.co.uk 8/10
GameDaily 8/10

Getting pretty good scores overall. There are more good reviews than bad reviews so face it Heavenly Sword is a great game. Anybody who thinks otherwise is in denial.

   Re: ... (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04
 » ..

Stealth dude you like taking some stranger thoughts or review on a game in order for you to buy it huh. Why don't you go out and try some of those games before making a judgement on those two games. But since you're talking about Bioshock, you're probably more into shooter games thus making any game that isn't a shooter less appealing to you.

 » Differences I spotted

No bias but I think Ps3 is slightly better.

Xbox looks sharper on the tile floor, other than that ps3 looks sharper throughout - ie graphitti tag on skate ramp etc. Ps3 also has people in it.

I think PS3 has the slight edge, but its not a world of difference.

   by 360 Owner (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04
 » Major Difference

I have been a 360 owner from Day 0. The most important difference is that you need to have your console to see the difference. I am just waiting on my third return which is taken 5 weeks so far. I am will be dumping my xbox to purchase a system I can own and not just rent for awhile. I am sure the PS 3 system will look better, simply because I will acctually be able to see it!.

   Re: Stealth! (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04
»  360 Owner ? you mean you wish

Hmm thats interesting your THIRD return and yet MS has not sent you the new heatsink version after 3 returns ?, I smell bull...

PS2 had around 5 million dvd problems and in the end they were fixed and it became a best seller(and is STILL in production), 360 has no where near that amount of problems and they now give you a 3 year warranty with it so you stuffed yourself a bit thee eh..

   Re: chaosnstride (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04
 » Re: Stealth!

You know this must be like the thousandth time I've heard a MS fanboy mention the ps2 dvd problems. You're not so quick to mention the original XBOX had a ***** load of problems with their dvd drives, and for a while they refused service on them. Wiki Xbox original to read more....but yea, MS failed reliability wise on both of their systems, cept this time around they smartened up and put an extended warranty out there. So please kill yourself, before posting crap about last gen consoles as a comparison to now.

   Re: Tynimoto (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04
 » 360 Owner, and Ps3 Owner

Hey 360 Owner I hear ya' and feel simpathy, I also bought a 360 on Day-0 and a Ps3 on day 0. Fortunately for me my Xbox hasn't died 3 times... Only because I'm AFRAID to TURN it ON... I never got a 3 year warranty like Stealth Here is bragging about, I got the 90-day warranty Like everyone else at launch... Microsoft is all about the Money. Atleast Sony used all there mistakes with the PS2 and learned from them, and built a Quality Hi-Def machine... Microsoft has Built a computer, that can't do anything my Computer can't do already, plays the same games, with an inferior controller, And Chances are my Launch Console is going to overheat like %50 of all the other launch consoles, and I'll be SOL
For the record I don't even believe those %50 statistic things, everyone I know that's had a 360 has had to send it back

Re: Francis Dolarhyde (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04
» This guy Stealth! is your average Xbot

I love the fact that he brings up the DVD problems on the PS2(which never happened to me by the way) and he forgets that the console he is blindly supporting has a 33% failure rate and the only reason Microsoft extended the warranty was so that they could avoid a major lawsuit. Also when somebody brings up the Lair review it makes them look like an insecure little fanboy who is most probably happy and maybe even celebrating that a game got bad reviews. Seriously just shut up and go back to playing Gears of War.

Re: El Dom (Unregistered) - 2007-09-04
 » Re: Stealth

Stealth is a rabid fanboy, common these days...
Anyways, Tynimoto doesn't have a 360, because he would have known ALL Xbox 360's have a 3 year warranty.

Also, Stealth, since you follow Microsoft so dearly, you would obviously know that #!1, Microsoft doesnt replace all motherboards, and #2 is if they did, what forces them to put a heatsink on yours? they put in whatever is closest to whoever is fixing your console, be it with 1337 heatsink or no 1337 heatsink.

So I guess you also boned yourself..

look at the tiles around 1:11 in the video. You notice the tiles in the PS3 version are more richly textured. Also its not that noticeable but the ps3 does seem to have a slightly higher frame rate.

...They look basically the same. The biggest difference I could manage to notice, even while closely inspecting the HD version, was the ps3 was slightly more aliased in some areas and it was slightly darker. Overall, you'd have to be some sort of hardcore graphics whore to see a noticeable difference when you actually play it on your HD TV...

All other visual differences you guys seem to be noticing are 100% negligible...
