Sony: 'No comment' on 80 GB PS3 phase out rumors - Image 1We recently reported on the rumor that was spreading that the PS3 console will be phased out at Best Buy. Sony finally broke their silence regarding this issue by releasing an official statement. "No comment" was released by the company on the issue that the high-end 80 GB console will be discontinued.

With the 80 GB console being removed from the online shelves of Best Buy, a Sony representative sent an email to Wired regarding the issue saying "I caught up with all of the posts and news last night, and as you know, we don't comment on rumors and speculation."

There you have it, Sony's official statement on the rumor circulating their console. It doesn't exactly provide that much needed ray of light on the matter, but for now, that's all for us to hold on to.We'll be keeping you updated on the developments regarding this matter.

That's pretty much a "Yeah we're doing it but don't want to explain it or furure SKUs at the moment".

I know from my experience with talking with insiders and real game devs, that "No comment" means, "Yes, this is true and it's gonna happen a lot like what you've heard".

 » well

the ps3 box says limited edition

this probably means that it wont last forever and it will end

i think they will have a new one ready

i dont know why this is a big deal

i have one and i think that its better than the 40 beacuse of 2 more usb ports, 40 more gb, motorstorm, and memory card readers

i dont think they will make one with a bigger hd because people dont fill them up

» but thats where ur wrong

ppl spent quite some time downloading demos and i never intend to delete them after all the power drainage. Y wud u wanna delete them? U wudnt throw all those collected ps1 demos that came free with mags wud u?

U also have game like super rub dub, Pain, ps1 games etc. and videos. Id rather have ALL my media collection(music, vids and pics) in a console since it lets u play/view them on BIGGER SCREEN/better audio system than cramping it in an OFFICE PC(tuh) - little monitor screen..

Until i find out how to format my external HDD to FAT32, i WILL be doin just that

It's the same at Circuit City also, at the store I work at we haven't gotten a shipment of 80gbs in forever. Been about a month now, but we still get in 40gb models every week as scheduled. Strange.

 » Its no surprise really.

The 80GB model sales has been tanking the last couple of months, so why would you keep a tanking model on the market. Seems smart to me, as a company stand point. Although the next model probably won't have BC.

 » no more game included

there has been signs that like the 360, games are no longer going to be included, and we could see a standard 80gb out by end of Q1. but who cares what i say, everyone thinks "deleted" means gone forever.
Also we might see playability of ps2 format on 40gb later in the year like we see with standard updates on 360 (or so says the info as it trickles down)
