PlayStation 3 - Image 1

Heads up, Sony PlayStation 3 owners! The latest and most highly-anticipated firmware for your Cell Processor-powered beast of a next-gen machine is now available for download. So what are you waiting for? Fire up those babies and watch as the goodness squeezes its way from the internet tubes and onto your videogame console.

While we don't quite have a changelog yet to check whether or not the promised additions did make it into the cut,  let's take a look back at what's been promised to us from the get-go: DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio features for Blu-ray movies.

While having some sweet, sweet audio to accompany the high-end visuals of the Sony PlayStation 3 is already enticing, we have to wonder if this is just part of the update, or the update itself entirely - which wouldn't be bad at all, but we all know what we want from Sony, don't we?

Sony! Give us Home now! Updates as we get them, and now we bring you back to your regularly-scheduled firmware downloading.

Thanks to Steven Watson, DatNizzle, and NarooN for the tip!

I can't see the link on the US Playstation Update site - anyone got the change log ? is it just the Audio updates and the PS Store updates? or is there anything else that we may get?

 » no mention

 » Why?

Why tease us with the chance of home?

And they said the store wasn't done yet, hence why some images don't show up.

 » PSN!

The Playstation store has also been redesigned. It crams more stuff onto the screen. Might work better for lo-def tv's but I dunno since I don't have one.

 » My review and comments:

It's not completly finished that's for sure. The icons takes forever to show (around 3-4 minutes for all icons in ONE section) and after you closed the store, the store re-download them again for another 3-4 minutes before they can be shown.

I suppose it's all gonna be fixed in the next days before the 17 for the new stuff.

Also, they added the Lair stuff (new dragons and an analog control scheme for free) wich is cool. I just finished downloading, but I'll test next week (exams). I just took the time to write my comments and see others.

Also, for the look it's awesome. After they fixed the icons and stuff, it'll be really cool looking. I think they should just make us actually download the icons on HDD so it would show automatically without any kind of second to wait for it, and it could update non stop while we're doing something else, like playing a game offline.

The only thing that's lacking in an option section, where I, as an SDTV owner, could choose to make the text a bit bigger (32" sony wega). But it's not that bad either.

I think they only lack one thing, and it's the stuff we missed last weeks, but it's gonna pop the 17 so it's not that bad. I only hope they'll release an haze demo for the 17, and if possible, a prologue demo! :D (gonna buy it anyway).

Anyway, have fun, I'll return to my studies... :'( I'm so tired of waking up just to study and study all day... But I need only A+ and some A for the Ph. D. of psychology (to be accepted) :'(.

Anyway, have fun with Lair. See ya! :D

ps: I'm gonna email gamespot and ask them to make another review for Lair since the weakest spot was the control (they said). Go all and ask them (you email "gamespot" in the gamespot mail.), they might actually do it if we're numerous to ask. :D

Well there'd be no point in making us download the icons. When they added new stuff, we'd just be endlessly downloading ridiculous icons to our HDD. That just seems stupid.

I think it'll be fixed soon enough.

 » Umm?

Why can I no longer search for Media Servers? Is this a 2.30 revision or what firmware removed it?

 » Opps

Disregard, just had to readjust my network settings :D
