SonyStyle removes 80GB PS3 from catalog - Image 1Actions speak louder than words, and while Sony has been markedly quiet about the circulating rumors of the 80GB  PlayStation 3's phaseout, we may be getting partial confirmation from the company's very own retailer, Sony Style.

Their online store has recently removed the 80GB SKU from its catalog - doing a search for PS3 units now only brings up the 40GB model (bundled with Spider-Man 3).

Add up reports of similar pullouts from other retailers, and it seems that Sony's 80GB machine is definitely being put out to pasture. For the guys who were around when Sony pulled the plug on their 20GB SKU, this scenario certainly feels like deja vu.

Does this mean that Sony is indeed paving the way for the much-discussed 120GB console? Sony is still keeping mum on this matter, though analysts speculate that it's a very likely scenario. We'll let you know if we receive any official word regarding this matter.

*UPDATE*: Apparently, a slightly deeper look reveals that the 80GB PS3 is still in stock within the official Sony store. If you search for the item "80GB PlayStation 3", you'll find it pretty easily. Here's the link that leads to the 80GB PS3's page in Sony Style.
