Sony Pictures Entertainment will include portable files on Blu-Ray DVDs that can be transferred without a download. Sony may add the feature this year. It's not currently part of anything on our current release schedule, but we'll probably roll it out sometime this year. |

hddvd isnt microsofts format. microsoft doesnt own hddvd like sony owns blu-ray
I am really starting to wonder about qj...
MS doesn't own HD-DVD, heck they're not even a contributing company to the format. All they're doing is supporting it instead of blu-ray.
- Also, Sony doesn't "OWN" blu-ray either. Sony is in a group of several companies who make up the 'blu-ray group' who developed and are pushing the format to win.
-Lastly, I've heard rumors ages ago that Sony was thinking of packing a UMD with every Blu-Ray so you could enjoy the HD movie at home and the UMD movie on the go with your PSP. This method of just packing the data on the disc is cheaper and smarter if it is actually what they're doing.
But M$ backs the format and that gives it critical support. You don't see M$ putting in a BD drive, like for HD-DVD.
Microsoft owns the HD-DVD as much as Sony owns Blu-Ray... In the end, it comes down to buying Blu-Ray and supporting Sony; or buying (god-forbid) HD-DVD and supporting M$.
Was that Portable or "Pornable"
HD-DVD was developed bt many companies but Toshiba are actually the main face for it, not Microsoft
"... will include portable files on Blu-Ray DVDs that can be transferred without a download."
There is no mention of movies in the quote, so I dont see how the summary makes the link to copying movies to you laptop. The last thing we need are 'files' from Sony infeseted with crippling DRM (remember their Rootkit? )
[quote]It is no secret that they've always wanted to boost software sales for their handheld,[/quote]
Not true, or we would have a PS store on the PSP, not PS3.
Of COURSE Sony wants to boost software sales for the PSP. It's my theory that there's some sort of technical limitation that is limiting the PSP from connecting to the store. It may or may not have something to do with the fact that the PSP runs on batteries. I'd just like the PSP's website to have more content period, like the demos that show up on the websites for PSP fans (like this one).
will they make us update to a new firmware to enable the feature.... time will tell..
Has Sony ever given us a new feature without making us upgrade? The answer is no.
If they can, they will undoubtedly try to squash homebrew in every possible way.
You kind wonder what the catch is. But not matter what, if it's not DRM protected then it's going to get pirated to death. I guess it's only portable video anyway, not like sony could make money of portable videos anyway (UMD anyone?).
Wow what a technological breakthrough! Extra downloadable files, they don't say what, on a disc. They need to patent that, what innovation! I guess they ran out of money to come up with something original or useful.
Some Kids In Here Look Angry...[the 2 Above ]
Wonder Why..?? :)
The only one here that lets these forums get you angry is you broken boy. That's why you impersonate me in a childish rage. This is a debate forum and just because someone else presents a different (and correct) view, you get all angry and do things like use another name to make it seem people agree with you. Try this one: come up with a truthful argument to counter what I say. Can you do that?
I really do feel bad sometimes about how I bash the PS3, not because it isn't warranted, but because it's so easy!
"sony's technology is designed to get you to buy more sony technology"
This is as Funny as your last Statement "Evil Boy" :)
For the 360 you are Stuck to Buy an Hdd Provided By MicroSoft alone for 100$[for 20GB] or a Memory Card For 30$ [For 64Mb]
Plz think Before you Post....."Evil Boy" :D
debate forum eh?
you never explained your last view.
Notice how the evil corporations support blu ray (except Apple)fox news corp, disney, sony etc" - mr. common sense
hahahahahha....
Still need help? I'll start it off.....
Apple and MS aren't "evil" because......
Panasonic, Dell, Samsung, and Sony are "evil" because......
i'll never forget that one. why do people have to respond to you post when you said that comment?
common sense my ass
I must admit that I usually completely disregard your posts. It's not an insult, just not my thing. But, if you are to make claims that others are impersonating you and whatnot I do have a suggestion for you. Make a registered account. Everyone gets the point. You are here to stay as the ultimate pain in the ass, which I am sure that you pride yourself on. So maybe since you are here to stay - you might as well be someone with a username so that you can say it is you saying something ...
Damn right Kristian! Keeping you guys on your toes. Think of it as a contest.
I personally love how some people get all pissy when they're told they're wrong by someone named Mr. Common Sense. I'm not always right, but I admit it when I'm wrong. If people would just read, I do bring up good points. Broken hero cracks me up. I know I'm making him mad. Lighten up!
You're all right Kristian.
And what exactly is a Blu-ray DVD? :D
After the failure of UMD movies, this comes as no shock, but it doesn't stop it from being genius.
A very smart move on Sony's part but the fact remains that OFFICIAL PSPs can only play low res movies. Hopefully they'll take a cue from Dark_AleX and unlock the PSP to use full resolution. I think the PSP2 will have no UMD and a hard disk or the 32MB flash memory in it. Lets hope it's hackable.
QJ is evil. Deleting my previous post! Like I said before...
Blu-ray is not DVD
Blu-ray disc is Blu-ray disc
DVD is DVD
BR-ROM versus DVD-ROM
It's BD-ROM, not BR-ROM.
this is what they should have done originally with UMDs...pack them into dvd cases and charge $5 extra, that way you could have had the movie in UMD & dvd and then UMD would still be alive :(
It's not too late ... wait... maybe - Sony do something! Why do we always cheer on companies - they have no special relationship with us - they are just people trying to sell products... blehs
I believe all this means in registry independant stuff for the PC, while it may run from the PSPs MS if transferred, it will likely have something to do with the information stored on the BDs sublayer.
From Sony? Amazing...
Too bad they should have done this with DVDs in the first place, would've really helped out the PSP a lot
