PS3 controller - Image 1

While it's certainly good that Sony is now on the path to making sure PS3 owners get the full next-gen experience with the release of DualShock 3, we can't help but ask the rather big discrepancy between the release dates of the rumble-enabled controllers in Japan and in Europe/US. As was previously reported, Japan gets next-gen rumble on November, while the rest of the world gets it next spring.

So why the delay? Sony answered this question through a Sony Computer Entertainment America spokesperson. They replied, "It's our manufacturing/production schedule. We are producing units first for Japan and then for NA/Europe."

Well, there you have it. It's the production schedule of Sony that has them producing DualShock 3 units for Japan first, and then for the rest of the world later. Of course, we can't figure out why they couldn't just make one whole batch for all three regions, instead of two separate ones.

But at least, we know that next-gen rumble is on its way - and we'll have that comfortable heaviness in our palms while playing our favorite PS3 games.

I personally think thats bullsh*t. evenly distribute them and let them be the hot item on EVERYONE'S wish list. Don't saturate the market in one place and then miss out on holiday money in the other. I love Sony, but sometimes, their strategies baffle me.

That is Sony. It's a BIG company. They have considered all possibilities before coming to that decision. That's how it works in the business. It's not strategy. It's efficiency. For whatever reason, their analysts figure out that releasing the controller in Japan first is most benefiting for Sony. That's just how it is.

As long as I can get some imported for not much markup on ebay, I don't care too much.

But still, that's a BS reason for a 6 month release difference.

you just dont get it do you?
Sony is prioritizing Japan because of the lack of support/userbase. if only more people bought ps3 in your country then Sony maybe forced to deliver dual shock 3 ASAP.
even though wii is overselling ps3 in 5 to 1 ratio here japan, ps3 is still selling very well here. anyways just order em on play-asia.

Few years time? You won't get your fifty buck of enjoyment in a few years, and that slightly better (ifit is actually better) rumble will make that purchase worthless? Really?

I got my PS3 early so I could enjoy it for 6 years. I could have gotten it in 2011 for ~100 bucks, and gotten in on the last of it, but it's worth more to me if I can play with my friend for 6 years, instead of one.
