Sony actually paid 150 million to immersion yet they shot down splitfish--the guys who found an alternative. My guess is that something good is going to come out of this. Maybe a rumbling controller with a little more heft? I could only dream.
Splitfish was not shot down, they never approached Sony.
And Sony had to pay, it was a court order
They should've paid Immersion the first time. 82 Million > 150 million.
I dont realy mind the standard controllers not having rumble, but the reason why I am so excited about this is for the force feedback steering wheels. Those are so awsome. I never knew why people would pay so much for a steering wheel, and then about a year ago I finally went for the GT4 steering wheel and Holly *****! I fell in love. it makes the experience of racing games 10x better.
And I miss it when Im playing F1 on my PS3 and not being able to use the wheel with force-feedback :) That would make that game so much better.
But yeah it would also be nice to have it in the standard controller to
sony paid 22 million to immersion to license their technology on top of the 130 million that they settled with in the courts ... so sony technically bought the technology for 150 million
OOF thats a lot of money
How much do you think SpiderMan 3 will make in the box office?
Sony is over a $1bn company now. 150m to secure rumble technology and get the legal monkey off their back is peanuts. They can make it back easily, bad PR has hurt them so much you can see they are trying to spin less and do more now.
that is alot of money, but I dont care cause I feel great!
YEAH!!!!!!!!
they just wanted money to improve there company. i would trade a sixaxis for a dualshock. we can still use dualshock even god of war 2 will . bye
so are they gonna give us free controllers with rumble and sixaxis now
NO CHANCE
Hi, are you sure that the news is correct ?
I am saying beacause inthe web gamedayli say:
In Immersion's form 8-K, the company revealed that Sony will pay quarterly installments of $1,875,000 (for a total of $22,500,000) beginning on March 31, 2007 and ending on December 31, 2009; Sony will also pay Immersion certain other fees and royalty amounts. In addition, Immersion has agreed not to sue Sony or enforce the original permanent injunction that was issued back in March 2005.
http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=15399
And then, beacause fot the sentence betewen Sony and Immersion was in March 2005, and Sony have to pay $91 million to Immersion, not $120 million as say infortmationweek.
Can you check that news for informationweek or gamedayli, is the correct.
thanks you.
PS: I sorry for my English, I from to the spain, and My English in writting donīt good.
Don't apologize Xops it's cool we don't judge man.
Yeah I really hope we don't have to buy completely new controllers. I don't want to have to shell out another $200 just for four.
I have to give it to you for being mature and reply with a proper answer not unlike those other a$$holes.
Anyways, I think its good that they settled with Immersion. People kept on giving Sony smack for not including rumble so Xbox and Nintendo fanboys can finally stop with thier bickering.
I'm hoping Sony and Immersion come up with a controller that uses their new rumble technology.
Like mentioned above that this is peanuts to pay from Sony, they will make it up with the selling of their new controllers with rumble. I'm fine with buying a new one for that feature, I'll play my ps2 and miss it on the ps3. Some say they don't enjoy rubble, I think your missing out really. When I play GTA and I'm shooting and running people over I want to feel that rumble, it's a missed effect on the ps3. GG Sony you're making this unit better and better for us!
