A lot of talk has been going on about the Church of England's protests over Sony using the Manchester Cathedral as backdrop in its hit game, Resistance: Fall of Man. The church has asked that the game be pulled out from shelves and that Sony issue a formal apology.

BBC News covered the entire issue, pointing out both sides of the argument. Sony's response stated that while they are taking the concerns posed by the Bishop of Manchester very seriously.

Resistance: Fall of Man is a fantasy science fiction game and is not based on reality. The game is set in an alternate and mythical version of Europe in the 1950s, in which the enemy are strange looking alien invaders seeking to destroy humanity.

Whilst we believe that we have sought and received all permissions necessary for the creation of the game, we will be contacting the Cathedral authorities in order to better understand their concerns in more detail.

How the church will follow through on the matter is not yet known. The Church of England stated in a previous press release that it will be considering legal action if its demands are not met by Sony. That said, watch the video.

Sony is so going to wipe th floor with those idiots at that church. I can't believe they pick R:FOM out of all the games that feature churches and stuff to pick on. I hate these Jack Thompson types of *****s and I think they should all die by firing squad.

 » 2day's hot topic

Hot topic eh?
Only getting involved myself as the church is so messed up it's fun 2 take a few shots back @ it. I mean it's funny how the church in America is trying 2 stop/stopping the teaching of evolution in schools because it does not happen like th@ in "the book"
All religion is a bit f**ked up anyway, it's the cause of most suffering over the last 2000+ years & still continues 2day. How any1 can belive in a book th@ was put 2gether 1500 years ago by ??????????? I'll never quite understand. They don't stick 2 them rule's much only when it suit's them & they belive in the book.
All because Jesus was surposed 2 have fed the 40,000 on a loaf of bread & a pot noodle.
Anyway if u belive in God fine I got no problem with th@ but take ur inspiration from the world around u like life, creation the universe & s**t like th@.
Think 4 yourself & live a good life as I'm sure God would want, but don't get sucked into the Sunday cult with it's hypnotic prayers, big crosses & pain guilt trippin u into beliving.

Oh & by the way................................................

1st ;-]

 » Church of England's name

Just to be correct here (I don't own a PS3 and will not I have my Wii) the Church of England is "Anglican" they broke away from the Catholics when one of the kings of England wanted to have another wife and the Catholic church didn't want to let him. They have kept many of the same titles and actions as the Catholics but they are not. Google them and you will find its what they call themselves.

And yes the lawsuit is stupid they are just making some media noise.

Also good post by badboy_Br you got most of it right.

 » Hey badboy_Br

Geez, typical Protestant ignorance...

>actually catholics are christians in some ways...

Yes, Catholics are Christian, the original ones!

>catholics follow pegan traditions too...
>about praying to mary and saint's...
> the bible never said anything about prayin to saints...

Catholics don't follow Pagan traditions. We don't offer food and sacrifices to statues and believe that teh stone adn wood are gods. Venerating saints and icons and relics is not paganism, it's no different than the Ark of the Covenent or the Moses using the icon of the bronzed Snake to cure people as God ORDERED! The Bible, particularly the Psalms invoke the Angels and heavenly hosts (saints) to praise God alongside us and appeal for us. The Book of Revelation reveals the prayers offered by the saints for us both in heaven and from Earth and Catholics from the beginning of Christianity have made appeals to the Saints. Martin Luther, the founder of Protestantism also prayed to the saints and held Mary in high regard.

>Protestants on the other hand....
>we are different from catholics...
>we follow the bible.. the bible is like the manual of life...
>we follow jesus' footsteps.. theres a whole different >context here....

Catholics also follow the Bible, but unlike Protestants we also follow the Divine Church Authority and Tradition guided and strengthened by Apostolic Authority and the power of the Holy Spirit.

>i don't think you'll ever hear a Protestant church suing >someone over a game...lol

Yeah, because there is no Protestant 'Church' but a splintered collection of various Protestant denominations that share similar tenants of faith but unfortuantely also different interpretations of the Bible which keeps them apart and not unified.

>anyway the church of england is catholic.....
>they have images of saints and Jesus on the cross....

No they are not! They are Anglican! They split from the Catholic Church! Protestants were once also Catholic... and Catholics also read the same books of the Bible... does that make you Catholic?

>trust me you'll never see Jesus on the cross on a >Protestant church...because we believe he is >risen..and that he is not on the cross (meaning he's dead)

This is the most hilarious thing Protestants say... also the most ignorant. Are you saying that Catholics believe Christ didn't rise form the dead? The image of Christ on the cross, the crucifix, signifies the death of Christ and his death and sufferring are more important to Catholics than Protestants apparantly... which is why we have that image. It was when Christ was nailed to that Cross that we were saved. And the crucifix signifies that.

>however Christianity is a religion....and we Protestants >do not follow a religion...we follow the word of God...

Errr, if Protestants are Christian... then they obviously follow a form of Christianity, which is a religion... which makes you religous... No level headed Protestant will say what they follow isn't a religion. You seem to be confused about your own faith, forget abotu Catholicism. But then again, given how splintered Protestants are and their various forms which number in the thousands, it is EXTREMELY different from the Catholic Church with one authority and one unified faith sharing the same faith and dogmas and instituted by Christ Himself.

On to the discussion at hand... It might have been poor judgment on Sony's part to use the interior of the Church for violent content, alien or not though given the context of the game's story it cannot be interpreted to being intentionally 'sacriligious.' I'm sure it's just the ruined interior and any religious iconography was removed... but I haven't played the game.

However, I can understand why the Church of England is upset. Would you like to create a shooting level of Virginia Tech of Columbine as some people have and then expect people not to get angry? Or how about we make a game where we shoot up the interior of the Dome of the Rock and other Muslim Mosques and see how the Islamic world

» omg when will it end

yo old lady. your son was shot because someone took a gun and shot his dum ass. what the f*** do videogames have to do with that.

they act like the objective off the game was to blow up a church. its just in the map

so if you play a fighting game and the arena is a forest and you see animals in the back your gona say the game is wrong casue it teaches animal cruilitt

SHUT UP

i believe in god and heaven and all that but the church is kind of abusing its power, trying to stop every thing that they think is wrong

why don't they stop somthing that can help everyone like global warming if they want to be such heros
